We are moving into retirement living and the only tv signal coming into the apartments is via an IPTV network point. As IceTV uses coax connections I don't know what to do. I don't want to loose the ability to record programs to watch later. Does anyone have a solution for this issue.

The TVHeadend add-on controls the signal being used; I did a quick search and found some (rather ancient) information on how to do it - see here https://tvheadend.org/d/4933-how-to-setup-iptv-network. The bigger issue is can you use IP TV with IceTV. This would be something that @Daniel Hall may have some idea.

IceTV: IceBox + BYOB IceBox + 2xTRF-2400 + 2xTF7100HDPVRtPlus + SKIPPA [RIP] + T2 + U4 + V2
No IceTV: a few Toppys and T2
Synology NAS

In theory (famous last words), this should be fairly straight forward, at least for the EPG.

The IceBox EPG gets into TVHeadend via an XMLTV feed and the link between the XMLTV data and the channel is the 'Grabber Channel' so just updating the grabber channel should do the trick.

  • You need to get the IPTV details of your new location.
  • Use a Web browser to browse to your IceBox.
  • Go into Configuration-Channel/EPG-Channels and disable (maybe delete later) your existing FTA channels.
  • Go into Configuration-DVB Inputs-Networks and add a new 'IPTV Automatic Network' with the IPTV details obtained above.
  • Once all of your IPTV channels have been tuned, go into Configuration-Channel/EPG-EPG Grabber Channels and then edit each one to point to your new IPTV channel.

As for scheduling recordings via the IceTV web site, this could be a question for Daniel.  Recordings from Ice to TVHeadend are created using the EPG Event ID.  It 'should' still work, however, I may have overlooked something.  Likewise with scheduling recordings locally to be sent back to ICE.  Perhaps if the channel IDs don't match it won't work.

Thanks DMC, we are not moving into the apartment for 4 weeks. I will look at your suggestion to see if I totally understand it and see what happen..
