Display not waking up after IceBox has been idle

It is normal for the display to be dulled if the IceBox is not displaying live TV or is not playing a recording, and it has been idle (ie the remote has not been touched) for a fairly short period of time. Normally pressing a button on the remote wakes the display back up to full brightness. However I have had several instances of late where the display does not recover and in fact I have been able to change channels or play a recording and still not have it wake back up. Most annoyingly this happened mid program this evening when the recorded program that I was watching was paused for a few minutes. The only way I have found to get the thing working properly again is to restart the IceBox which, if you have a recording underway is a pain.
Has anyone else seen this problem or have a cure? This has only been a problem since the most recent update was installed.

You could try disabling the feature entirely with:

Settings -> Interface -> Screensaver -> Screensaver mode = None

This behavior is not unique to the IceBox; it occurs with other instances of LibreELEC and, as I understand it, it is a KODI problem. Recently I have experienced it with both my IceTV IceBox and one of my BYOB IceBox. Other members of the beta testing team are also experiencing it recently. No idea why it has suddenly become a problem.

The only easy workaround is that suggested by @Delta Mike Charlie.

IceTV: IceBox + BYOB IceBox + 2xTRF-2400 + 2xTF7100HDPVRtPlus + SKIPPA [RIP] + T2 + U4 + V2
No IceTV: a few Toppys and T2
Synology NAS

This is something we are looking into though, to see if there is a better fix than just rebooting.

It seems that this is a known issue that has been around for at least a decade.

Could you either pre-configure guisettings.xml / advancedsettins.xml to not have a screensaver when you build LibreELEC?

or

When your first-run wizard executes, could you set the screensaver mode to 'None'?

Here is the Python code to set the screensaver to 'None':

response = xbmc.executeJSONRPC('{ "jsonrpc": "2.0", "method": "Settings.SetSettingValue", "params":{"setting":"screensaver.mode", "value":""} ,"id": 1 }')

I was also seeing this occur intermittently, before the latest update too.
I was only thinking yesterday to post about it but was not sure on how or where to address it.
Happy (in a way) to know that it is not only me experiencing this.
I have noticed that it occurs more frequently now (since last update) if 1 or more recordings are in progress, if that helps with diagnosing.
I have followed the advice to set screen saver to none, but as it was so randomly happening I won't know if that was the fix or not.Only time will tell.
Daniels comment about looking into a different way of "waking", I hope so.

Thanks for the swift feedback. Glad to know that this issue is not unique to me. Disabling the screensaver sounds like a sensible and simple option.

I also have the same issue. Seems to have only happened with the latest update. I haven't seen it happen when I use the IceBox daily (i.e. overnight hasn't shown the issue). The times it does appear to happen is when I haven't used the IceBox because I have been away from home for 2 to 3 days (sometimes longer).

I have any power saving & screensaver options turned off, including the "Settings -> Interface -> Screensaver -> Screensaver mode = None".

At least it is not a total failure - it still records any scheduled programs without issue.
The other thing that I notice is that everything is dim - watching live TV or a recording doesn't bring it back to full brightness. A reboot is the only option I have found.

Cheers,
Mike.
