EyeTV / Re: EPG retrieval frequency
April 18, 2016, 07:53:53 PM
Hi furbies, I really appreciate your work to fix the EPG updates. Eyetv has been sold to the company that did Elgato's eyetv manufacturing - Geniatech. The Eyetv business remains in Germany. I'm in negotiations with them right now to get IceTV properly integrated and EPG updates back to at least every 15min (so away from home settings can work asap). But our business negotiations and their software dev may well take some months to filter through so any work you are doing right now is very helpful to bridge the gap.

All the best,

Colin O'Brien

No one is pulling any strings as the manufacturer has closed down so we have no way of updating anything within the box.  It would seem the manufacturer's software engineer has put the "extra hour" when the clocks go back at 2-3 pm instead of 2-3am.  Luckily not too much of a problem.  Had me worried first thing today though!!

Daniel, I assume, because of these posts, that, like me, you haven't found a better way of getting these triples than just asking people? :(

Hi prl, I've never had success before but I've just asked Freeview...

Believe me, just because it's 30 years old does not mean it's poor quality. It was the basis for the Netflix version and they wouldn't have chosen poor material. In my opinion it's actually better. Ian Ruchardson was a superb actor who brought a wonderful malevolence to the role. Helen Mirren in Prime Suspect is another example of old (25 year) yet still superb television.
I disagree. It will be poor quality just because it's 30 years old, including 4:3 as mentioned
I never said it was poor material, in fact the opposite, I said the acting and writing is probably good

I guess we'll see.  Pun intended.

IceTV EPG Content / Re: WINHD and 9Life

I guess it depends on how much you enjoy unavoidable adverts on commercial catchup, sometimes poor picture quality and deletion after two weeks?

Speaking of a job at ICETV, has Madeline returned? Colin mentioned to someone that the quality of service should improve shortly, suggesting more staff will be put on. That would certainly be a good move as so far I've come very close on a number of occasions to giving up on ICETV.

Hi JPP,  Unfortunately Mads is nit coming back.  We have hired 4 new staff to take the unbearable 7 day/week pressure of John and Judie.  We couldn't hire them sooner as the Xmas holidays got in the way.  They spent last week having 5 days training and are now hands-on with Judie and John keeping a watchful eye and doing checking.  Undoubtedly at this early stage there will be some mistakes so your eagle eyes are most appreciated.  They look like a great new team.

Stick with us - the tech guys are working on new software that will give correct start times up to your final login from the PVR/media centre.  But it's a massive software update and, mixed with other projects, is about 6 months away.  But it will be the nearest anyone will get to spot-on recording.

It's coming ASAP as a priority

Our problem is that the PVR manufacturers state that they are IceTV compatible, and sell the boxes on the market, before the software is properly tested.  It leaves IceTV in an impossible position - we can't stop the sales process yet our software is not properly de-bugged by the PVR manufacturers. We then have to muddle through a nightmare of bug fixes to Korea who are only moderately successful in the fixes.  And so on..

We have the software to be a real "Tivo on steroids" but it needs the PVR manufacturers who want to use us as a sales tool to come to the party.

I hope this doesn't sound like an excuse but we are really trying hard, whilst fighting 9 in court, and we will give you a genuinely brilliant product.  It just takes time with limited and stretched resources.

Give Topfield and Beyondwiz a rev up for us.
