Quote from: PLANT on July 13, 2026, 01:55:30 PMThis has codes to 5999???

Are you sure that it has all those codes, if the automatic scan only went from 5000 to 5400? Does the paper manual list any codes between 5401 and 5999 (I can't find my copy, and the PDF version that blip pisted a link to doesn't have a code list)?

Quote from: PLANT on July 12, 2026, 05:38:58 PMNo codes for EMAILAIR aircon are listed in the back of book.

The AP-U1 is old, and it sounds like it never had codes for EMAILAIR air conditioners. When I did a Google search for EMAILAIR, a couple of places selling remotes for EMAILAIR air conditioners came up. That may be more fruitful than trying to get your AP-U1 to work.

Quote from: Rykster on July 11, 2026, 01:03:49 PMI posted the screen shots to show that nothing relating to subtitles is selected, not just the highlighted items.

I know that. What I said about the settings that are shown still applies. What's not shown from that Auto language settings screen are the settings for "Subtitle language selection 1/2/3/4". If you've set one of them to "English", as you've done for "EPG language selection 1", then that will enable subtitles on any channel that has English subtitles. I suggest that if any of them are set to English, that you change them to None.

If the current channel was showing subtitles before setting any "English" subtitle languages to "None", then you need to change channels use the STBTITLE button to turn the current subtitles off for the settings change to take effect.

It's also not necessary to set "EPG language selection 1" to English. "None" will work just fine, but I don't think that having it set to English will cause any issues.

Having one of "Subtitle language selection 1/2/3/4" set to "English" will cause exactly that behaviour.

None of the options listed on that screen will prevent closed captions from appearing if the SUBTITLE button is used to switch on subtitles.

That setting only affects subtitles stored in a separate file, which I think we all agree doesn't apply to broadcast TV or recordings made from it.

That isn't the only place where closed captions are configured. There are also closed captions settings in "Auto Language" in the same settings list.

Have you tried my original suggestion of using the SUBTITLE button to turn off closed captions on the live TV channels that are showing closed captions? You didn't mention trying that. It won't change the closed caption "on" setting in any existing recordings, but it should stop it being set on any future recordings.

Guru's not my name. It's just a label the forum software tags me with because I've made a lot of posts.

I'm not aware of any setting that can do that. Can you be specific?

Quote from: Rykster on June 14, 2026, 04:50:12 PMRecently, my T4 has developed a strange feature that I cannot override - it has started showing on-screen subtitles, without any input from me to do so.

If you have enabled subtitles on a channel, then all recordings on that channel will have subtitles enabled by default.

If that's the cause, just switch to each of the channels that have subtitles in their recordings or when they are live, and press SUBTITLE on the remote, and make sure that the little popup says that subtitles have been turned off. It it says that they have been turned on, then press it again to turn them off, and that wasn't the cause of the problem on that channel.

For recordings that have already been made with subtitles enabled by default, you'll still need to turn them off in the same way when you start playing the recording.

If this is the cause a factory reset will not be required. A service scan or a settings restore will be needed after you do the factory reset.

As IanL-S says, broadcast TV programs' closed captions are text embedded in the recording file, not in a separate file. English subtitles on foreign language programs (e.g. on SBS) are part of the video of the program and can't be turned off.

Sorry, I think I missed the fact that I had set it up to record repeats.

IceTV EPG Content / Darby & Joan - Repeat
June 26, 2026, 10:31:41 AM
Darby & Joan season 1 is currently showing in late time slots on ABC & ABC HD, and is being marked in IceTV as a first run. I'm fairly sure that it's a repeat - IMDb says that its first season started in Australia in August 2022 and its second season in Jan 2025.

The ABC's online EPG has Darby & Joan S1E5 (23:32 Sun 28 Jun) marked as a repeat.

I forgot to say that for the keys that are recognised by the Beyonwiz, long presses work as expected.

Not many. Arrow keys work in the same way as the arrow keys on the remote, and ENTER/RETURN is OK. Keyboards sold by Beyonwiz have some buttons that are labelled with icons that may work (and that may be the same with other keyboards). I think that normal alphanumeric keys work as expected in text entry boxes. I think that some of the Fn function keys actually do something (I think the high-numbered ones correspond to the remote's coloured buttons). DEL and BACK may work as BACK and EXIT, but I can't remember which.

I really only found out by experimentation, and it's a very long time since I used a keyboard on a Beyonwiz (which may reflect how useful I found them in real life). If you're hoping to use the keyboard as a fully-functioning remote that can also do text entry, you may be disappointed, but try it, and see how it goes.

Quote from: raymondjpg on May 18, 2026, 09:26:19 AMI guess other languages might work, but I've never tried any.

I've never seen subtitles offered on broadcast TV in Australia that weren't in English. Subtitles on SBS programs in foreign languages are embedded in the video image and can't be turned on or off.

Strange. Anyway, it looks like you're onto it.

When I look at the certificate for the forum page, it seems to have only been renewed for a little over six months. Is that intentional?

Beyonwiz / Re: Beyonwiz firmware updates

Quote from: IanL-S on May 01, 2026, 01:49:54 PMDPLite_Firmware_30Nov2010_ver_0107350

there is also:

DPLitei_Firmware_30Nov2010_ver_0107350

Not sure what the difference is between them.

I had a DP-Lite i and no DP Lite, and I only have DP-Lite (not i) firmware in my archive, so I presume that they are the same. It's been a long time.

My most recent firmware for the DP Lite in my archive is BETA_DPLite_Firmware_01Jun2012_ver_0107351.wrp (released 1 June 2012), but I can't recall what differences there are between it and the 01.07.350 firmware. Given that 351 beta it's only about 7 months newer than 350, it can't be expected to be able to handle much in the way of newer file formats than 350 does.

The last release of the newer series Beyonwizes (T/U/V models) is from 10 October 2021. The only updates that have been made available since then are my updates to the channel picons (made available as online downloads thanks to peteru) and updates that Adoxa has made to his set of package downloads. Adoxa's packages are only available if you make the required additions to the package control files on the Beyonwiz.
