Ad skipping not always picked up

G'day,

So far, ad skipping is working well. The fly in the ointment seems to be 9GEM Sydney.

Generally, there does not appear to be a reliable detection of ads.

I record Pointless on 9GEM followed by The Chase UK on 7HD. Both are HD channels, however generally the 9GEM recording will have no ad skipping, except for the odd occasion when it is detected and works.

These are recorded at 2 pm and 3 pm, but watched around 6 or 7 pm.

Is there anything that can be tweaked?

The problem with The Chase has already been reported. My understanding is that refinements to the detection process is on the to-be-done list.

Thanks. The Chase has no issues. I wasn't sure if the issue with Pointless and 9GEM was known.

Hi,

I've noticed what seems to be a pattern in the (seemingly increasing) failure to detect an ad break. When the missed break starts, it almost always starts with a promo, rather than an ad. Sometimes the skip will start after the promo, sometimes it doesn't happen at all. It's been like that on 7 for the longest time, but seems to be increasing on 10 and 9. Ad breaks always used to start with an ad.

Another thing I've had happen twice is that after running for a few days, ad detection stops completely. It's like there's a supervisor process that detects that a recording has finished and spawns an ad skipping process or thread, but the supervisor is failing for some reason. A reboot fixes it.

Yes, Ned Snow, you are correct.
I also get no Ad skip when there is a channel promo straight after.. Fast skip through that and when the ads start it kicks in, but the promo is usually longer than the ad break.
Frustrating? yeah. But no more so than not having the skip function on other PVR's.
I live with it. Mostly functions better than I thought it would.
Is a quick press of a button that much of a hassle?

The bad news is that this happens, the good news is that the Ad-Skip module is (according to @Daniel Hall) highly customizable, so over time things should get better. It tends to perform better when there is a number of blank frames between the end of content and the beginning of the non-content. I have noticed that this is common on 7Flix and 10 Network; 9 and 7 nowhere near as good.
