For the first time in a very long time Doctor Who will not only not be fast tracked but by the looks of it not even broadcast on ABC TV https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/nov/26/doctor-who-australia-abc-cancels-free-to-air-tv-show-disney.

The article advises "...now Doctor Who will only be available to Australian viewers on Disney+." Not on Aus TV maybe, but for sure BBC continues to broadcast the show on BBC1. Like Scrublands, currently only available in Australia on Stan, but broadcast on BBC4 and available in its entirety on BBC iPlayer.

Disney offered the BBC bucket loads of money, as a result of which they now own the world-wide rights for Doctor Who (excluding the UK, where it is still broadcast on the BBC).

In chasing the almighty dollar, the BBC have screwed over Doctor Who fans the world over, and dudded the ABC who had been their partner for the show's entire 60 year run.

Looking at it another way, if BBC is able to provide its audience with Scrublands then I would have thought that ABC would be able to provide its audience with Doctor Who.

The ABC wasn't matching the $$$$ that the House of Mouse offered.  They weren't even asked to bid.  The Mouse wanted world-wide rights (excluding UK), and the ABC probably were pretty much told "this is the way it is".

... and comparing a relatively minor show like Scrublands, with a world-wide franchise like Doctor Who, is just plain silly.

Ditto for TVNZ in New Zealand also for the entire 60 years.
