Now that Ten (and Nine) are simulcasting the primary programming in HD, what will happen for series recordings that have the "Prefer High Def" option selected?
Any need for user input or will/should it happen automatically for timers that have not yet been sent?

There's no need for the user to do anything... unless their PVR cannot handle mpeg4 channels in which case they should disable the mpeg4 channels in their account.

For series recordings that have the "Prefer High Def" option selected any new timers will be assigned to the simulcast HD channel (unless the HD channel is disabled in the account).

For the 5 days after the new channels come online existing "Prefer High Def" timers *may* get deleted off the SD channel and rescheduled on the simulcast HD channel. In some rare cases (where the PVR doesn't do what it should) there may be timers for the same episode on both the SD channel and the simulcast HD channel - which will pass after the existing timers have recorded.

Thanks Dave,

That's the answer I was hoping for.

A related question: now that we're moving back to simulcast SD and HD on the "main" channel with that state on SBS, Nine, Ten, and possibly also Seven at some stage, is there any hope of flagging EPG entries as to whether they are actually HD source material, and having a "prefer HD/SD" setting that says "Record in HD if it's really HD material being broadcast, otherwise record SD"?

It's worth noting that by default the new channels have been added to the users account which means new recordings for my T3 have failed as I haven't scanned the new ten hd channel yet. Users will need to make sure they have the new channels on their device or disable the new channels in icetv or change their recordings to prefer sd otherwise there will be failed recordings.
