I believe I have managed to permanently disable the wireless port on the WGT634U.

I have a topfieldd and WGT643U working sucessfully at home and I bought my dad a WGT634U for Christmas so he could hook it up to his Topfield.

I managed to update the firmware sucessfully, however, before I updated to the ICE firmware, I disabled the wireless (using the Netgear firmware) so that I wouldn't get confused with his existing wireless network.  When I flashed to the ICE firmware, it appears that the wireless port is permanently disabled.

The network status page does not render in HTML, and the "Device Status" page gives me

ifconfig: ath0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

four times at the top of the page. (I've attached the HTML soure from the device status page).

I have tried power cycling the GHT634U and also pressing the reset button on the back to hopefully restore the wireless settings but I've had no luck with either.

Presumably, I just need to issue an ifup ath0 if I could get my hands on a shell!

Is there any way to re-enable the wireless port?  Now is when it would be really nice to be able to flash back to the netgear firmware!

Does anyone have any ideas or will I have to buy another WGT634U and try again?

Just thought I'd mention that I upgraded to firmware version 200509071041 but I still have the same problem.  Everything appears to work if I wanted to use it wired, but I need to have wireless...

I can't answer your question right now but will offer as a
"Christmas special" we will reflash the Netgear for you free of charge,
if that's ultimately required.

You can access the console but requires a TTL/RS232 adaptor connected to
an internal header. So you'd have to post it to us.

I have also emailed the engineer who wrote the firmware who will no
doubt answer you in the next day or so.

Note that there is a chance the Netgear has a problem with the flash
memory, we have struck a few of these.  The HTML page not rendering does seem a
bit odd.

The other place you might get an answer is at http://sourceforge.net/projects/icebox/
where you will also fing the gpl developers mailing list for the projec (all
our Topfield-related software is open source).

Hi gregtan,

Did you ever get a resolution to this issue? I now have exactly the same problem. The WGT634U was working fine wirelessly, then after a power interruption I am now getting the same symptoms - the DEVICE STATUS page fails to render correctly, with the line:

ifconfig: ath0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

...repeated four times. The WGT634U bridge works fine when hooked up via cat5 ethernet, but the wireless capability seems to be completely stuffed. I'm happy to provive any further info required. I'd love to get a resolution. Here's the full listing of the DEVICE STATUS page:

ifconfig: ath0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

ifconfig: ath0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
