Guys, can you please explain why I am paying for a guide that's not updated when TV stations make changes a week before broadcast??

I knew about "Michael Palin's New Europe" being pulled and replaced by a stupid show about tigers, but IceTV didn't show this change even though it was public knowledge a week ago.

Related to this change, Ross Kemp's Gangs program started 10 minutes early vs IceTV's guide and IceTV's guide bore no resemblence to reality against the 7's SD channel (Great Outdoors was on before Fawlty Towers, not the other way around).

What's going on?  Will this be improved or should I use the TV stations EPG's now (they were correct, as I viewed them myself) instead of 'wasting' my money?

Yes, Michael Palin on HD appears to have been replaced with 'Killer Tigers of India'. As for 'Ross Kemp' starting 10 minutes earlier than IceGuide indicated, I take your word for that. But these other Guides you're referring to also had this program 10 minutes later.

The Great Outdoors before Fawlty Towers? The latter was at 7:30pm, where we had Michael Palin and where you've just told me the Tigers special was on. We did have The Great Outdoors at 6:30pm as per the SD & HD Guides. IceGuide had the correct line-up for SD. I'm not sure what you're on about.

So, after all that, it appears there was one change we didn't reflect. I'm sure you will make your decision regarding 'wasting money' wisely as you continue to compare Guides. I can assure you there are many more times the IceGuide picks up things that the others do not. If you've noticed a couple of inaccuracies, we're always happy to address them and thankyou for pointing them out.

Mitch, firstly, thanks for your response (sincerely).  Secondly, I'm not sure which 'dig' to respond to first.

This was posted on TV Tonight on the 21st of April:  http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2008/04/axed-michael-palins-new-europe.html

and this thread on the popular DTV Forum:  http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?s=&showtopic=65177&view=findpost&p=1036075

Now, I realise you have your day job, but surely keeping up with industry news is a pretty prime part of your job description?

Anyway, re the other 'digs'.  I probably didn't make it clear, but the Tigers thing was on the HD channel and Great Outdoors and then Fawlty Towers was on the SD channel.  The IceTV Guide had it showing as Fawlty Towers and then something else (not Great Outdoors).  The whole of the HD channel was 15 minutes later than reality.  IceGuide didn't have the correct line up for the SD channel.

Now that we've addressed that 'dig', I will reserve my decision to continue my subscription (I have already terminated automatic renewal) and see what happens over the coming months.

One parting dig back at you - smart-arse comments to the customer aren't the best way to keep their business.

Edit:  I've done some research and this appears to be a Perth Channel 7 thing, which explains it.  Apologies to ICE TV, I don't expect you to pick that crap up.

------------------------

Again, there is a discrepancy in what's shown in ICETV on the Beyonwiz (and on ICE's home page) and reality as well as what's listed on Yahoo 7.

As I wasn't believed last time, here's what's shown on Yahoo7 this evening:

Seven

Better Homes and Gardens G (60) 7:30pm - 8:30pm
Fawlty Towers PG (40) 8:30pm - 9:10pm
The Vicar of Dibley PG (35) 9:10pm - 9:45pm
Dangerous Minds M (120) 9:45pm - 11:45pm

7HD

Fawlty Towers PG (40) 7:30pm - 8:10pm
The Vicar of Dibley PG (35) 8:10pm - 8:45pm
Pirates of the Caribbean M (180) 8:45pm - 11:45pm

However, IceTV (and the ICE EPG) shows "Panic In The Ring Of Fire" on 7HD at 7:30PM, followed by "Ross Kemp on Gangs" at 8:30PM.

To be fair, it's now 8:52PM and the promo on 7HD just said "Vicar of Dibley next..." so who knows that the f*** is going on?

In addition to this, the ICE site and my ICE EPG) was showing NASCAR on TEN HD, which didn't happen (was the Footy when I checked it).

So, what's the problem guys?

You've asked alot of questions Simon. I value your input and your patronage of the service, but that doesn't mean I'm going to lay down and accept responsibility for all the TV Channels do or don't do. You said youself, you don't know what's going on. I've accepted that the HD Channels are 'feeling their way' and may do for quite awhile. This includes lots of very late changes. This includes changes that only some other sources reflect and ... it includes programming and changes that make no sense at all. From what I can understand there was one error on Perth SD last weekend on our Guide. I apologise for that. As for the NASCAR being pulled .... who knows why they did that? Personally, I'm trying to record and watch IPL Cricket and AFL. It's been a nightmare. I have to accept that TV Channels in this country hold my viewing frustration with compelte disregard, as they do yours, We don't; and that's why your concerns are investigated. So my support for your decision to compare stands, and I feel confident that we pick up more changes than all the others.

Mitch IceGuide

I also meant to say that part of the success of this service can be attributed to those subscribers who notice changes and/or discrepencies in the Guide before telecast. This forum has been a useful tool on handing these onto us so we can investigate and/or take action. So, if you are aware of changes in Perth that aren't reflected in the IceTV EPG, let us know in advance. It would be appreciated and beneficial to all. Thanks.

SimonB

Mitch, will do.  Appreciate your response.  Now that I have 'Interactive' working with the new BW firmware, you'll hear from me more often!   ;)
