Getting Help / Re: Comskip not working
April 08, 2024, 06:29:50 PM
Quote from: MD on April 08, 2024, 05:57:23 PMMate, do you realise how difficult that would be, both getting it into the software then modifying the UI??!!

To be honest, no idea, but the system must know which files have been processed.
From a user's perspective we don't really have any way to know what is IceTV stuff and what isn't.  One thought, would it be possible to add a text flag to the Local EPG data?
That is under your control.

Quote from: Aardvark on April 08, 2024, 11:12:43 AMIs there a log on Icebox which will maybe show what's happening or do I need to enable debug logging for Kodi before anything will show up?

Something to show that the processing on a recording is completed would be nice.
Somewhere you can find which recording is currently being processed would be good as well.

No rush though.

BYOB / Re: EPG Issue in BYO?

Quote from: Daniel Hall at IceTV on April 04, 2024, 01:52:40 PMThe one hour out could also be a symptom of daylight savings, there could be some weirdness until Sunday for the days after Sunday, but scheduled recordings will happen correctly as the guide data is updated.

I assume you have checked the regional settings?

Quote from: Daniel Hall at IceTV on April 02, 2024, 03:32:40 PMIs it really important to you have "LCN's" available?

The answer there is that it depends on how you control the IceBox.

If you are using the standard IceBox Remote, it doesn't add a lot of value apart from offering a consistent order of channels when using the backend data.

However, if you use a keyboard or some other type of remote control, it can make a big difference, especially when an alternate remote control has number buttons.

For example, if channel nine is missing the LCN you need to enter the related five-digit LCN that is assigned when the LCN is not captured. Whereas if the LCN is captured, you simply press the "9" button.

Quote from: DeltaMikeCharlie on April 02, 2024, 02:48:55 PMProposed Solution:  For every mux that has channels without an LCN, tune to a single channel on that mux for a few seconds.

Suddenly it all makes sense.  Well Done DMC.

I recall a similar issue with a TV EPG.  When you turn a TV on and look at the EPG some channels are populated with data and others are not. If you select a channel with missing data it populates. It seems the LCN has a similar issue.

Quote from: Ian_AW on March 30, 2024, 08:04:21 PMWhy (100...)?
Because that is now it presents and I cannot see any more.

If I recall correctly, the "100..." is showing the first three digits of a five-digit number that the system assigns when the channel scan fails to capture the LCN of a channel. As usual the software truncates the least significant digits. If it truncated the Most significant digits, you would have seen "...001", "...002", "...003", etc.

In my circumstance I find that a full capture of all the LCN is an uncommon occurrence. I usually get most of them, but there are usually one or two that get missed.
However, the LCNs can be manually edited using the Web UI at Configuration, Channel / EPG, Channels tab.

I keep feeling that I am missing something with this thread as most of the other members are aware of this and haven't suggested the solution.

Getting Help / Re: Trouble starting IceBox

Quote from: boofhead on April 01, 2024, 08:01:45 PMDoes it need an active IceTV account to work?

To work as intended, yes.

I am sure it is technically possible to disable the IceTV component and run just the LibreELEC/Kodi software, but if you wanted to do that you would have been better off just buying a NUC and loading the LibreELEC and Kodi software.

You may not understand what IceTV actually does. Here are some of the benefits:
  • IceTV provide a processed Extended Program Guide (EPG) that identifies the repeat status of programs on the guide i.e. if it has been shown on that channel previously it is tagged as a Repeat. If not, it is tagged as a New program.
  • IceTV interacts with your PVR to set timers remotely
  • Allows Series recordings to be set up
  • IceTV provides a web page and a phone app that are used to manage your recordings

When you combine 1., 2., 3 and 4. you have the capability to manage your recorder to set recordings remotely.  All you need is access to the internet. I have personally set a timer to record a program while I was on holiday in New Zealand.

You can also set a series timer to record all new episodes of a series. Once set up the timer waits for a new episode to appear and it sets your PVR to record it, even if it's a couple of years later at 4:00 AM in the morning. You can even set it to record on any channel, so if it pops up on another channel you still get it.

Add to that automatically skipping adds and more, you have a service that is well worth paying for.

IceTV really try to do their best to provide a great service. I encourage you to give it a try.  While you are at it do a bit of googling to see if anyone else is offering anything similar.

By the way I have no connection with IceTV other than the fact than I am a happily paying customer and have been for well over ten years. I would be lost without them.

I very much recommend you give it a try.

Getting Help / Re: Trouble starting IceBox

Quote from: boofhead on March 28, 2024, 09:11:32 PMI tried a hard reset option. It started booting and stayed on the IceTV screen for about 6 minutes. Something seemed a bit off so I restarted the box with the power button.

Most of the actions you have taken seemed fair enough, although I would have suggested a soft reset first.
A hard reset is fair enough as it takes the unit back to its initial setup. Interrupting it was unwise though.

You may now have partially reset software that doesn't load properly. You may need to reload the software manually.

General folder. this post shows how to reload the update.

However before you do that, try plugging the TV into the other HDMI port. It is possible the IceBox has switched HDMI ports. It does do that occasionally following a reboot.

Quote from: raymondjpg on March 28, 2024, 01:58:25 PMN.B. This is something I would definitely NOT recommend, but only try if prepared to do a soft reset, or possibly even a complete re-install:

I think this is the key advice here. Especially when it takes me a day to recover all the addons I have running.
I had already done a Soft Reset to fix the missing Channels and LCN that were missed in the update scan (along with a bit of Channel Maintenance).
I am not looking for an immediate fix. My setup is now working.
I am really looking for a more inbuilt solution that less experiences users would look for if they had channel/LCN issues.

All,
I tried the Force Scan option and after a quick flash of a message (too quick to read) nothing happened.
It was all over in less than 1/2 a second.
I would have expected an extended delay while all the frequencies were scanned. So what it scans is outside my limited knowledge.

The remapping of the services was similar.  I tried both the Selected service and Map all to no avail.

Thanks Everyone.  I'll give it a try when I can pry the IceBox from my wife.

Quote from: raymondjpg on March 28, 2024, 10:01:59 AMYou could try the Force Scan option in the Web UI Configuration|Networks|Force Scan.

Youve lost me there Raymond. How do you get to "Web UI Configuration|Networks|Force Scan"?

I started this thought on another thread, but brought it here as it is more relevant to the recent update.

The point I was making was regarding ongoing development and how the recent update worked.

I expressed a desire for a reset that didn't wipe my addons and a channel scan independent of a reset and was more effective and capturing both the channels and their relevant channel numbers.

With the recent update there seemed to be something close to what I have been looking for. The update was able to be implemented without wiping my addons and implemented a channel scan as well.  However, whether there was anything reset related involved in the update, I don't know. There also seemed to be something off about the related channel scan as well. It seemed that even the more experienced users were having missing channel and missing channel number issues. In my case the channel scan missed entire channels, as well as many channel numbers. Unfortunately, there was no way the redo the channel scan without a reset.  As a result, I had to spend another day reinstalling all my addins and tweaking the various settings to get the IceBox back to where it was.

I suspect the Channel scan with the update may need a slightly longer sample period for each frequency to be more reliable at capturing the all the channels and the related channel numbers. i.e. it would take longer, but return more data.

It looks like the possibility of a channel scan Independent of a reset is within reach. If you can have one with the update, it shouldn't take much more to put an option in the IceBox UI to allow it to happen.

General / Re: Add Skip Thoughts
March 27, 2024, 04:31:56 PM
Sounds Great! The manual add skipping is not all that high on my list.

I am more interested to see if there is consensus on my desire to see a little bit of add with the skips.

In terms of priority, I would much rather see an ultra-soft reset that doesn't wipe out my addons. It took most of yesterday to get them back.

Next would-be stand-alone channel scanning that was more effective at capturing the correct channels numbers.

Quote from: GreyNomad on March 27, 2024, 10:08:00 AMHowever, the most significant problem was with the ad skipping whereby after the ad break, the video repeatedly cut off and on, until finally there was just a blank screen.

That looks more like a HDMI issue.  Do you have a HDMI cable connected directly to your TV or is there something else in between, e.g. an AV Amplifier, a HDMI extender, HDMI splitter, HDMI switch, etc.)?

Sometimes with HDMI, something that interrupts the data flow can trigger the receiving device to go through a housekeeping check which results in a bit of flashing while the HDMI reconfigures itself. Sometimes the result can be a blank screen.  The more devices in the chain, the worse the flashing can get.

Usually a directly connected TV doesn't do that, but a bad cable may cause something similar.
