Windows Media Center / Win10 Media Center
December 13, 2015, 07:43:40 PM
I realise that this is not a supported version but I have patched Media Center on to a Win10 install and managed to get it up and running - except that I can not get the IceTV data to show as an option for the channel under the 'edit listings' list of data.

I've been using MCE for nearly 10 years and was an early adopter of IceTV and have built and upgraded quite a number of machines over the years so I've been through the process quite a few times - but I can't figure out what might be the issue.  At the moment I have the broadcast data displaying and working with no issues and the "IceTV Interactive" app is installed and connecting fine but doesn't seem to be pulling the data.

It has been a while since I did a fresh install so it could be a basic error I'm doing even though I've read through the support docs on the website.

Log is below and the device is 'laptop'.  The other two machines are not operating at the moment.

Thanks OzRob.

Just an update on where it is now.  I was hoping that it was resolved but I just thought I'd look to see.

Using Seven-Qld as a check I had a quick scan through up coming movies in the guide data and I noticed that the data for the next couple of days had the 'Movie:' prefix and the descriptions of the other shows were as per the IceTV website.  What is odd is that beyond the next few days I seem to have the broadcast data with the 'M-' prefix and other show descriptions not matching that shown on the IceTV website (Interactive).

So if the IceTV guide data is there beyond these days then why am I seeing the broadcast data even though the guide data downloaded from IceTV covers these days?  I'm clearly getting the IceTV data as the next couple of days appear okay but beyond that is questionable.

I'll take advice from OzRob and see if this 'sticky' data is over written but it's a pain that the look ahead seems to be a mix of IceTV and broadcast data.

I'll try to remember to post back in a week or so just in case others have struck the same problem and are as confused as I am.

Okay, I'm not sure that I consider 'support' as simply pointing me to a solution to just turn off the prefix as I am obviously getting some strange data even though checking settings indicates that I have it all setup properly for IceTV data.  Telling me that I've obviously got broadcast data without offering a suggestion or more queries to try and help is not support either.  It's basically saying "not IceTV problem".  I've tried email contact before (different issue with data a couple of years ago) but had little luck in getting a response then and was then suggested that I should use the forum.

Anyway....

I'm not 100% that it has been fixed as I still had a couple of titles with a "M-" prefix that evening but the rest seem to be okay.

I seemed to have some very results from trying what OzRob suggested thanks OzRob by the way).  I could change the data that was being displayed if I turned ON Inband Data and change the data to whatever broadcast steam, but no matter what, I could not get it to select the IceTV data.  If I turned OFF the inband data then it did not change anything, no matter what channels data I selected.

What I ended up doing was doing a full scan of channels from scratch and then going through the process of selecting each channel to use the IceTV data.  As mentioned above there were still a couple of odd prefixes still lingering but once these were passed then the rest seems to be fine.

As before, both machines still indicate that all channels use IceTV data but without happening to notice a difference of what is listed online using the 'interactive' how can I tell if it's using the IceTV data or not?

Is there a way of disabling the use of broadcast data?  My previous build of MCE2005 could not pickup the broadcast data so I was wondering if I could disable this function in Win7 since I use IceTV anyway?

The plus side of this exercise is that I have actually setup both machines so that I can set recordings remotely from my phone.  Not something I'm likely to use often but handy to have just in case.  I still prefer using the settings in Win7 for my recordings using the remote.

I've tried this "do not show listing for this channel" setting to try and re-set things but it appears to be stuck and still shows the same data.

I tried changing to the data for a different channel and now it seems to be stuck showing this other channels data no matter what data or even selecting "do not show listing for this channel".

Very strange.  And perhaps stranger that I have this same issue across two machines that were done following the instructions for IceTV on two different occasions.

Is it possible to get some tech support from iceTV on this??

No I don't want to remove the prefix as I find it helpful.

I wasn't aware of the 'inband data' option before and I'm not sure what exactly this does but I have checked and this is not enabled.

I have checked the setup for each channel and they are all indicating an IceTV suffix in the listing.

What I notice is that channels 7 and 7TWO have the 'M-' prefix, while WIN has nothing, but all the others seem to have the standard 'Movie:' prefix.

I can see that if I check using the interactive EPG on the IceTV website then the movies on Seven there do have the 'Movie:' prefix.

This is the same across two machines that were setup months apart.

Any suggestions then on what is going on?

I'm curious to know if there is any feedback from IceTV or if other subscribers have also noticed the same.

The timing may be a coincidence but at the end of last year I changed over to Win7 and as such found that I had to use the new IceTV guide loader but since then the quality of the data does not seem to be as consistent as it was previously.

I accept that there are going to be the occasional errors but the quality seems to have slipped considerably recently.

The thing that is the most frustrating is that previously, any 'movie' was always prefixed with "Movie:" and then had the title, however since late 2009 and my migration across to Win7 the use of this prefix seems to be quite random and at times is totally missing.  For example it can be "Movie-", "M-" or have no prefix at all.

I realise that Win7 can pick up the broadcast EPG but I have checked (both media center machines) and all the channels have been set up with the IceTV data on each.

Apart from just liking things to be consistent, my issue with this random prefix is that when the recording I want to keep are filed in the system then it puts the movies out of order in the library.

So, is it possible for IceTV to get back in the habit of using a standard prefix like previously?
