It seems that there are still issues with 2.5(25) on some phones running 3.1.3, we are investigating the issue and will release another fix as soon as possible.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Lisey,

You make some good points regarding better logic in default recording options and keeping old guide, both of those items are on the open issues list I just don't have a firm timeframe for them yet.

As far as the crashing you are seeing, what you are reporting seems far in excess of what we see in our own testing and user feedback. Perhaps we can work together to find out why you seem to be seeing such poor performance.

Can give me your IceTV Member ID? Private message if you prefer...

You're welcome ;)

I know we had a rather rocky start with this app but we will continue to iterate away on it to knock off the rough edges.

We are also planning on developing an iPad version.

If you have any thoughts on what you would like to see in future versions of the App, both iPhone & iPad, please feel free to share...

You don't have to use Lingon it just makes it easy to set the task to run on a schedule. OS X uses launchd instead of cron to schedule tasks and editing launchd scripts by hand is a pain.

IceTV EPG Content / Re: Academy Awards scheduling fail

Hi,
I checked your account and you have the series recording set to limit the number of shows to "1 per day", if you change the limit to "Record All" it will record both the "Red carpet" and the actual awards ceremony.

If you only want the awards you can, once you have adjusted the series recording, select the "Red Carpet" episode in "My Week" and cancel just that recording.

Are you using the dashboard or yahoo widget? Do you have the latest version? (should be 2.16(28))

Using the current dashboard widget 2.16(28) and my region set to Perth I see guide for GWN7, see attached screenshot.

You should also check that you have the channel enabled in the settings on the widget (use the "i" at the top right to access settings)

Patrick,
Just a quick teaser for you... I have the "Pull to refresh" working in my current development build that is due to be submitted to Apple this week. (See screenshot)

In order to build the EPG list for any given day we need to query the app's internal database and build the data structure required to drive the table.

For a full day you are looking at  something like 570 items, the query is very complicated as it needs to link the EPG to series/keywords/favourites etc in order to build a complete picture of the status of each program.

On the iPhone 4 this take ~ 1-1.5 seconds but on the iPhone 3G it takes 10-12 seconds. :(

I debated this exact topic with our dev team recently.

The reasons I am against it are

* The post midnight hours are by far the least important to most users so moving from one day to the next via the arrow keys is inefficient compared to the current day selector

* The "day change" overhead on older phones, namely the iPhone 3G is in the range of 10-12 seconds which makes an extra arrow press that results in a day change a very frustrating experience.

I like the idea of the "Pull down" as seen in the facebook app, it was in my possibilities bucket (if you like). I can't promise to do it right now but I will certainly add it to the official todo list and try and get it into one of the next few updates.

Sadly as it stands at the moment there are no PVRs designed around IceTV, we are always added to existing machines and have to work within the limitations of the platform.

We feel your pain on this issue and always do our best to encourage our partners to "do the right thing".

Thanks for your feedback Patrick, so far I have not had this concern from anyone else.

I would be interested in your thoughts on how we could improve the experience to remove this area of concern.

I'll give you a quick run down on how the caching works at the moment.

When you launch (or wakeup on a phone with multitasking) the app checks when the last fetch of data occurred. If that fetch was more than say 15 mins ago then it will reload all the info that is likely to have changed since the last launch.

The usual data includes things like lists of series & keyword recordings, shows that should appear in "My Week" etc

EPG is handled separately in that it is only loaded if it has been at least an hour since the last time and then it doesn't load from scratch but rather does an incremental load (i.e. changes since the last load).

Unless you are really low on EPG, less than a day remaining, we perform the loading of data in the background so that you can still browse the existing cached data.

You may notice the spinning network activity indicator in the menu bar while data is loading and you can see some information about the last load and how much EPG is available by looking in "Settings" -> "Application Information"

The hardest part of designing this app has been trying to get as much of the important information in front of the user as possible without making the interface too complex.

With the above in mind could you give me an idea of your ideal experience with respect to caching?

I understand your frustration and appreciate your patience.

We are planning on developing an iPad app but unfortunately we have limited development resources to spread around.

I can only reassure you that what you want is definitely on the TODO list.

In the meantime perhaps some suggestions on what you would like to see in an iPad app and how you would like us to fill the extra space.
