Changed to 1920x1080p but no difference.

I have taken two photos. One of my Beyonwiz T2 that shows as 1920x1080i, and one of the Icebox set to 1920x1080p.

Interestingly the IceBox photo is significantly smaller.

Unfortunately I can't attach them to this message because of file size limits, and I do not want to alter the image as that would corrupt the photos.

The thing is that I only tried the resolution changes because at 1920x1080 things looked fuzzy around the edges, and not as crisp as on my BW T2, so I changed the resolution from progressive to interlaced, because that is what the T2 reported and was trying to compare apples with apples. Refresh rate is 50 Hz.

It is back at 1920x1080i and 50 Hz, and I have just done a power cycle but no change.

It is not that it is like being pixelated, just that comparing it to another device with the same settings it is noticeably different and changing resolution settings does not seem to have an effect.

As I said, it is not "bad".

I suppose something for when you have some available time ROFL - sorry...could not resist.

G'day,

Something does not look quite right with the screen resolution on my IceBox.

No matter what resolution I select, it looks the same. From 640x480 through to 4K, the resolution looks the same.

The video signal goes from the IceBox via HDMI to my LG Smart TV.

My BW T2 feeds to another HDMI port and is crisp.

I have swapped HDMI ports on the TV and no change.

Is there something else that needs to be set as was needed to set pre/post padding?

I am setting the resolution using Settings>System>Display>Resolution.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Quote from: vader1111 on March 28, 2024, 07:15:27 PMThe up/down arrows jump to the next chapter, if one exists.  If the recording has no chapters, then they jump forwards/backwards by 10 minutes.  So the functionality for that part of your request already exists in Kodi.

Unfortunately the Up and Down arrows do not achieve this.

As soon as the program actually starts there is data embedded in the stream that contains information that says the program has actually started. At the end of the program, again the data stream contains information that says the program has actually ended.

It is much the same for ad breaks. The producer identifies key points where it is a point where the program can be paused for a break. This can be for a station ID or internal promotion. It is why you never see an ad break right in the middle of a sentence - at least the modern ones that have been digitised.

Schedulers simply create a playlist that comprise ad segment headers and program headers.

I have no doubt things will eventually end up this way. If you have access to a Beyonwiz T series or later, you can see this. When the program actually starts, the BW places a bookmark in the recording, and when the program actually ends, the BW places a bookmark in the recording. Now when you play the recording, simply press the Next button and second or so later, you are at the actual start of what you want to watch.

Interestingly 10 News First does NOT broadcast this code because it and every other news broadcast starts precisely at the time advertised. So, see, the schedulers can keep to their advertised schedules, but by not keeping to their advertised schedules, they hope to lock in viewers.

Getting Help / Pre/Post Padding of recordings.
April 15, 2024, 11:29:22 AM
G'day,

I am having problems having my settings of 5 min Pre and 15 min of Post to stick.

I have set things in Settings>PVR & Live TV>Recording, snd the values of 5/15 are remembered.

I have also gone to Home>Add-Ons>IceTV>Advanced 5/15 set there and remembered.

Yet, when a new timer is set via IceTV, it defaults back to 3/30. I am set as Expert.

Does this need to be set anywhere else?

Ok, I do not know what is happening.

I was testing a streaming service for a friend and the stream kept buffering on a 75 Mbps FTTP connection, so I decided to shut down the IceBox completely.

When I finished with the streaming service I restarted the IceBox and when I went to the EPG, all the channels were there showing their LCNs. Actually, just one was incorrect compared to my settings in my IceTV account. I have 9Go from LCN 99, whereas the IceBox used LCN 93.

Now, I do not know if it was the power cycling that corrected it, or if it was an IceTV EPG fetch that corrected it. If it was an EPG fetch that did it, why it did not set 9Go as per my IceTV settings.

Also, this happens after an IceTV account login details have been provided, So, why not just abide by the user's channel preferences set out there? After all, those channel preferences work including the LCNs.

Also, what happens with the channel details that are discarded? Maybe put them in a folder that the user can then decide what to do with them.

Quote from: Daniel Hall at IceTV on April 02, 2024, 03:32:40 PMOk, so I have a question for everyone.

Is it really important to you have "LCN's" available? Especially as they are not used for channel changing or really anything apart from channel ordering (if you go through additional hoops). Channel ordering can also be achieved by simply sorting by name as well.

Especially as LCN's are not part of the actual DVB spec and are just added on for Australia and sent as additional data, which is why they are a bit hit or miss as to whether they get found or not.

Multiple transmitters are something we need to address however.

Yes, it is important to have the LCN, because the broadcasters use them. Also, if you drive the IceBox via a keyboard you can quickly enter the LCN to switch to the desired channel. I use a USB mini wireless keyboard and is much easier to move around. It also groups channels from the same broadcaster together and sorted. Also IceTV uses them - no do NOT change that.

I seem to recall talk about a web interface to do this but cannot find anything on what to do.

What I cannot understand is that the LCNs were working but I had to do a soft reset because an entire channel block  was missing.

G'day, I have already done that and the list I gave is the channel assignments AFTER I made that change.

I'm in Blacktown and suspect I am getting stronger signals from the regional channels because on other occasions the Channel 7 ones have ended up as 65, etc which are the Prime regional channels.

I want to be able to only use the channels in my IceTV account.

The scan says there are 74 channels found but after the "housekeeping"there are just 39 channels. How does the soft reset decide which to keep and which to remove? Where can the raw list be accessed?

G'day,

After the latest update I have ended up with an unfortunate channel list. Its a bit like an alphabetically sorted keyboard instead of a QWERTY one.

It appears that rather than adhere to the channel list in the user's IceTV account, it tries to override that and assign a found channel and assign it because it detects a a stronger signal.

On my system I get the SBS and Channel 7 ones as in my IceTV account. Then it gets a bit freaky.
The rest of the channels are in the order as follows.

(100...) ABC HD
(100...) 10 Peach
(100...) ABC Me
(100...) ABC Kids
(100...) 9 Rush
(100...) 10 HD
(100...) 9 Go
(100...) 9 HD
(100...) ABC Plus
(100...) 10 Bold
(100...) 9 Gem
(100...) 9 Life
(100...) ABC News

Why (100...)?
Because that is now it presents and I cannot see any more.

Like the alphabetically sorted keyboard, a pain to use and difficult to work with.

Is there any way to restrict the channel numbering to what is set in the user's IceTV account? After all IceTV works perfectly well. I know that LCNs are old school, but on my Beyonwiz T2, I have manually edited bouquets and it would be getting on to close on a decade of use without any issues. Here the scan and match works perfectly for SBS and Channel but then does its own thing fir the rest.

Is there any way this can be edited manually, and if so, what are the steps?

Thanks.

I take it that with digital media, the IceBox monitors for "flashing discs" you see in old movies that alert the projectionist to first get ready to switch projectors and then to switch them so that you get a relatively smooth transition from one reel to another.

That being the case, with digital media, a whole lot more information is also contained in these markers. I would guess that there should be data marking the start and end of the recording.

It would be great if a bookmark could be placed at the actual start and end of the recording. Also, it would be nice to have a key sequence to jump forward to the next bookmark and jump backwards to the previous bookmark.

Thanks. The channel numbers are back.

Any reason as to why the ABC channels have gone AWOL?

I use a wireless mini keyboard. I've attached a cheat sheet for the commands to drive the IceBox.

Ok, a soft reset did the trick but the channel order is all over the place. I thought I'd fixed the missing channels but as the list below shows all the ABC channels are missing.

I seem to recall there was an option to have the channel number the same as the LCN,  but cannot find it now.

Previously the channel numbers were.

11 - 10 Peach
12 - 10 Bold
13 - Nickelodeon
15 - 10 HD

20 - ABC HD
22 - ABC 2
23 - ABC 3
24 - ABC News 24

30 - SBS HD
32 - Viceland
35 - World Movies

70 - 7 HD
72 - 7 Mate
74 -
75 - 7 Bravo
76 - 7 Flix

90 - 9 HD
94 -
95 -
96 -
99 - 9 Go!

Now it shows as:

 1 - 10 Peach
 2 - 10 Bold
 3 - Nickelodeon
 4 - 10 HD

 5 - SBS HD
 6 - Viceland
 7 - World Movies
 8 - NITV
 9 - World Watch

10 - 7 HD
11 - 7 Two
12 - 7 Mate
13 - 7 Bravo
14 - 7 Flix

15 - 9 HD
16 - 9 GO
17 - 9 Life
18 - 9 Gem
19 - 9 Rush

The automatic ad skipping is great, however something that might be even better is what my Beyonwiz does and that is to place a bookmark at the actual start and end of a particular program. What is being used to detect the end of an ad break could be done here.

So, looks like I am going to have to do a few more soft resets to get all channels, or is there another way to achieve this and not have to go through setting things up?

Any tips or pointers appreciated.
