This is a strange one.

Yesterday, I got all my timers to be resent after deleting them all first on the Toppy 2400. This was around 10am.

This went well, and I received all the new timers shortly afterwards and they were all present and correct, thank you  :).

Now, this morning, I noticed that all my timers were still showing up as queued, even though my Toppy was on yesterday till well into the evening. During all this time, I checked up on the web to see if my dougnuts would morph into solids, but no. I was still getting an hourly EPG update, so my conncetion to ICETV was fine.

Just now, this afternoon, I see that all the queued timers (all of the next 5 days' worth) have turned into yellow triangles, suggesting that the PVR must have spat the dummy on them.

This is strange as the timers on the Toppy are still fine and at the correct times.

Any idea what is going on here?

I've just turned on my Toppy 2400 and noticed that all of tonight's timers and a couple, but not all, of the next two days' timers have been deleted from the Reservation list. Never happened before, so before I go and blame the Toppy, has anyone else seen the same thing? These timers have been there for at least the last 4 days, so they must have been removed during the last hour or so as that's the View timer slot I have set up to catch new timers.

Edit: It's now 10 min later and all timers have reappeared after I did a resend from the ICETV web page. Prior to my resending of the timers, the My Upcoming Shows page on ICETV showed todays' timers and the other couple of missing timers as having been sent so all looked normal there. It was only when I just happened to check my reservations on the Toppy's web page that I noticed the missing timers.

I've just noticed that there is no EPG data for ONE SD (which is a copy of ONE HD in metropolitan areas) from Wed 10th 10.30pm onwards. You can see it on the ICETV TV Guide web page. I first noticed on my TRF2400 Toppy and thought at first that it was a problem on the Toppy, but it's not!! There is data all the way up to Friday 19th for ONE HD though (on both the Toppy and ICETV TV Guide web page), and as ONE SD is just a carbon copy of ONE HD, there should be no reason for this.

This can create a problem for some PVRs as timers set for any show that is on after Wed midnight will come back with an error and unless manually resent (after the EPG has become populated for that show), you will miss that recording.

ICETV normally sends out one off timers about 5 days ahead, so unless the EPG is fixed up by tomorrow and the PVR has received the updated EPG data from ICETV, it will result in a missed recording.

This post may well show problems that are common to all PVRs.

For a while now, I have been playing around with ICETV on the 2400 Toppy and have noticed some errors that I think may be due to ICETV's Program allocation software.

I have set up a daily news recording timer on SBS at 6.30pm. Now, it so happens that SBS has the exact same news broadcast on SBS ONE and SBS TWO simultaneously (both SD services). This means that ICETV can send you a timer for either SBS ONE or SBS TWO as either of these time slots and programs are identical.

Now, I have no problem or issue with that. But, the algoritms in the ICETV web server software seem to get screwed up as the software doesn't seem to remember which of the 2 services it sent a timer for. As a consequence, I get errors coming back from my Toppy and I often get BOTH services, i.e. both SBS ONE and SBS TWO news broadcasts recorded on the same day.

On the screen shot below, you can see the settings of My Upcoming Shows as seen on the ICETV web-site and the corresponding Toppy 2400 Reservation (timer) list.

Note how there are 2 timers set on the same day for the SBS news - SBS ONE and SBS TWO on both the 10th and 11th. Note that there is an error too with the ABC show. Not sure why that is the case.

I would like to hear from others if they have seen similar issues, and if so, what model/brand of PVR they have. :)

I have noticed that the 2400's ICETV EPG does not show Repeat Flags on the EPG. Is this normal or does everyone have the same problem? I know the FTA EPG doesn't show it either, but I'm so used to see it on my Toppy 5000 using JustEPG, that I miss it.

If this is not currently supported, could I ask that it be added to the wish list of ICETV EPG enhancements? Adding (Rpt) in front of the program title at the bottom of the screen - the yellow line just below the EPG grid box - would be a good place.

I'm getting extra recordings of SBS's Insight on SBS Two at 7.35pm Wednesday. These are not marked as a Repeats.

I could of course limit my settings to an exact time, 7.30pm, but that's about all I can do to restrict this from happening as I've set all other options to limit it to just the Tuesday (First Runs only, 1 per day, SBS, Standard Def only, Any Time).

Is the problem with the Repeat Flag? I note that the Wednesday airing has no title attached to the program, whilst Tuesday's does. Is that perhaps the problem?

Just thought I would throw in an idea that has no doubt been considered, but as far as I can see never raised officially.

I now have two devices, a Wiz and a Toppy, that I program from my computer.

At the moment, there is no easy way to determine if there is a tuner clash when programming recordings as there is no algoritm on the ICE site that carries out a clash test. Pre and Post padding further complicate things.

It would help enormously if the Icons in the Web and Widget interfaces could display which device has been set to record a particular program.

If we could have say purple icons for a second device, that would greatly help seeing clashes at a glance.

What do you all think of this idea? Would it be terribly difficult to implement?
#49
I've noticed an inconsistency in trying to set a recording up. Case in point in Monday night's Underbelly repeat at 10:30pm.

When I tried to set it up as a series, using either the Widget or web, it would not stick, i.e. it would accept the selection(s) [I tried all different option within the series options], but then no icons would appear on either the web or widget.

Just by chance, I tried the single program option on the Widget, and that worked on the Widget.

But, it shows up as a series rather than a single recording.

Is this still a hangover of all the trouble with the icons we have been having lately?

Anyone else experienced thsi kind of problem?

You can definitely download the firmware for the IceBox2, especially if you have a working IceBox2, on the Information page the latest firmware version number will be a link to be able to download the latest firmware file.

The only downside is that while the IceBox2 interface will allow the use of an original Asus firmware, the Asus firmware will not accept the IceBox2 firmware. To convert an Asus router back to being an IceBox2 you would need to put the Asus in firmware recovery mode and send the firmware file across to it over the network from a linux PC.
Hi Daniel,

I still have a (just) working Icebox2. I looked on the Information page, but there is no downloadable link visible on it.

The FW on my Icebox is Firmware Version: 200603231652

Can I download the FW from the Ice website somewhere or could you provide me with a link to it?

Thanks,

General Discussions / Xmas ICETV offer.
December 08, 2008, 05:16:46 PM
Hi Matt,

A terrific offer - well done. I think that at the $1 per week (or slightly less now at $49 per year), you've reached the critical acceptance point for a subscription. Here's hoping that this will fire up many people that have been sitting on the fence to take the plunge.

Just a small question on the Renewal application that I filled in.

I ticked the box:

"Renew my subscription when it expires".

The line directly below this reads:

"Your credit card will be automatically billed $49.00 for future renewals."

I take this to mean that from now on, each 12 months period will be billed at $49.00. Have I correctly interpreted that?

Also, I note that on my Personal Detail page that I cannot deselect all of the 3 period renewal options and the 12 month option still shows the $89.00 price. I take it that this is a system error that will be fixed up in due course?

Thanks again for a terrific offer.

Beyonwiz / ICETV causing BeyonWiz P1's to crash?
November 15, 2008, 10:16:48 PM
Tonight a number of people on the Beyonwiz Forum, including myself, have found their Wizs crashing. See here for full details:

http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?p=41809#41809

In a nutshell, if the Wiz is disconnected from the net, the crashing appears to stop.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

All of us are in NSW - other states appear not to have the problem.

For quite a while now, the time slots (the bold times shown in the left most collumn) double over on my screen. The effect is that for example 6.00 pm is shown cut in half horizontally with the bottom of the text shown above it. After I click on it (to look at the program details) and then click on another time slot after that, the text rights itself, i.e. after I have clicked on the time text, it rights itself.

I am running IE7 with 120% font size @ 1920 x 1200. I think the enlarged font size is the culprit as the effect gets worse if I increase the font size further and less (less of the text chopped off at the bottom) if I reduce the font size closer to normal or 100%. I am referring here to the font size as set under the Advanced TAB in the Settings TAB in the screen property series of dialog boxes. No problems of this kind with any other web site/programs. I have tried other (lower) resolutions but the effect is the same once the font size is increased above 100%. Only reducing the font size to 100% or normal will generally (but not on all my computers) fix the problem.

Not a biggy, but would be nice to have it fixed.

Hi All,

I posted the following on the Wiz forum, but have received little in the way of replies.

So, at the rsik of double posting, here is my problem.

For the past few days, I have been noticing that my View only timer is running short. It may have been doing this forever as I have never really monitored it.

I have one set for 5pm, to run for 90 min - thus from 5.00pm through to 6.30pm . I have noticed that it cuts out at around 5.30pm, i.e. it only runs for around 30 min. This hasn't presented a problem so far as this is long enough to get the EPG and timers from the ICETV site - the reason I have the view only timer for.

Now, I don't touch the Wiz during this time, nor is the Video (via HDMI) connected to an active component during this time. Maybe if I were to press a button on the remote, it would continue to run for either the whole 90 min or perhaps indefinitely.

So, the question is: Does the Wiz assume that if no remote key presses are sensed, that there is no viewer present and it may as well go back to sleep? I would really hope not, as having a longer view only time would allow late changes to be made via ICETV and that these would have time to be uploaded to the Wiz. For example, when on holidays, I plan to extend the View only timer to cover the whole of the evening viewing time, just in case I see a show that I want to record.

Has anyone else observed this behaviour with View only timers?

Reply from Gully:

I guess the obvious questions are

Are there are any other timers on when it ran short?

What is the padding priority?

My answer to that post:

Good questions and I meant to address them.

No, no other timers are/have been set - I usually don't start recording shows until around 7.30pm

Yes, padding - glad you mentioned it. Pre-padding is 5 min and post is 20 min. I have noticed that it starts before my start time of 5pm, so that suggests the View only timer takes into account the padding options. That should mean of course that it should not be shutting down until 20 min past my end time, i.e 6.50pm.

Soft padding is set to NONE. And when I say the View timer runs short, I mean that the Wiz shuts down - goes back into Standby. And, just so there is no confusion here with Recording Timers - these are OK and run their proper times, inc the preset pre and post padding times.

Edit: Some more info.

I have noticed that ICETV of late has been deleting my locally set DAILY View timer and replacing its own DAILY View Timer which it updates every day. It is a View timer as the letter V appears at the extreme right hand side of the title. And, it certainly hasn't made a recording of the View timer.

The duration and time is correct - Start 5pm ending 6.30pm. It shows a program title against the enrty, but this title does not seem to match that found in the EPG for that time slot and channel (ABC1). I.E. for tommorrow it is showing (without the quotation marks)

"*Noah and Saskiah 05.00pm to 06.30pm Mon 13/10/2008 DAILY V"

Note that it has an asterisk in front of the program title and the letter V at the end.

Now, oddly, not only does this program not appear on the ABC1 at this time, it doesn't appear or match any of the other channels' programs at this or any other time slot that I can see.

All a bit wierd I'd have to say, but, as far as I can see, the timer is set correctly apart from the program title.

Also, I have noticed in the past that even with my locally set View timer, it wiould run short, so I don't think that having then wrong program title is part of the problem.

Oh, and one last thing. View timers don't show up on your PC, either on the Wiki or Web Interactive, so there is no way to cross correlate the timers set on the Wiz.

However, very occassionally I see an orange dot against my View time slot.

Edit again. Like just now on Today's Web Guide, there is an Orange dot against the 6pm ABC 1 View time slot. However, there is none showing for tomorrow's View time slot.

However, all this ICETV stuff aside, it think that this View Timer issue is a Wiz problem. Can anyone who uses View Timers confirm this? Thanks.

Tony's post:

Mine is at 4am, so I am not normally awake to confirm your theory then
I got rc.local to spit the time out during bootup some time ago:
Sat Oct 11 17:52:19 UTC 2008
(Strange, I only have 3mins pre-padding.. I should check my timer while I am at it... actually, that timestamp is almost 5am... huh... maybe ICE does muck about with the timer to try to match it to a show? I finally got some feedback from ICE in PM that now explains that if you delete a timer from your Wiz, it disables it from recording for that week from ICETV. So there is some "2 way" interaction for timers between the WIz and ICE so to speak).
Maybe I should do the same for shutdown? (But that would involve editing rc.sysinit maybe which means a reflash).

Regards

So, my question to you ICTV gurus is: How exactly does ICTV Remote work and could this explain this strange behaviour of View Timers. As I mentioned above, it may just be a Wiz problem, but then again it may not. An understanding of how ICE Remote works will certainly help in tracking this one down. Daniel, Matt???

NSW - Sydney. Beyonwiz P1 and Toppy MP via IceBox2.

There is a discrepency between the Web TiVo EPG guide for this program and the Ice EPG Guide.

TiVo 10:30pm - 12:20am  110min
Ice  10:30pm - 11:50pm   80 min

The TiVo schedule sounds like a double episode whilst the Ice schedule looks like 1 1/2 episodes ???.

Sorry, no idea what a paper guide says - don't use one.

I've noticed that today at 2pm, that the widget is showing TBA programs for Chan 9, whilst the Web Guide has data for the same time slots.

Is the update of programs on the widget delayed for some reason? I think I have the latest Widget - invoking the update button does nothing though, ulike in the past when it would give the version number and announce if it was the current version or an update available.

I'm finding that the Interactive window in my IE7 browser hangs for a considerable time after you attempt to scroll down within the window (once it has been loaded - it's fine until you scroll)). Waiting for about 2 min brings the browser back again/unlocks it. All windows in the browser are frozen.

It only seems to happen the first time you scroll - once the lockup has passed, it seems to work fine. It seems that it's trying to get the information from the server, but is prevented from doing so in a timely manner. It's happening on a couple of computers to me - connected to different ISPs and in different geograhical locations as well.

Hi All,

Just did a rescan of my Toppy, but found that whereas Sydney's ABC main transmitters have changed over to the new LCN scheme, the King's Cross and North Head repeaters have not - most peculiar.

Topfield / IceBox/ICETV for Topfield 7000 HD PVRt
March 20, 2007, 03:40:06 PM
Now that the new Toppy 7000 HDPVR has been released, could one of the ICETV people give us a rundown on how the TV guide is to be fed into the 7000? The current implementation of ICETV is not yet functional on the Toppy, but I would like to know what plans have been made. Particularly of interest is if the same approach as the ICEBox 2 will be taken. In other words, will a box similiar to the IceBox 2 be connected to the Toppy's USB port? (yes I know it's a host - not a peripheral port, but this doesn't preclude it from being able to be used in conjunction with a USB to Ethernet converter).

If we could get the same functionality that the current IceBox 2 offers like file upload/download as well as TV guide import, that would make this new Toppy very useful (like my current MP :).

TIA,

Phil.
