Windows Media Center / Channels disappearing
July 24, 2006, 11:48:39 AM
Dear MCE experts,

We at Ice get occasional queries about channels disappearing or missing on initial scan. Examples:

"For the last three days my media center doesn't display channel 9 in either SD or HD in the EPG.  When I check the channels in the setup, both Channel 9's are listed but there is no frequency shown."

"Before installing IceTV, when I performed a channel scan in MCE I retrieved 45 services. After installing Ice TV there was only 15 services."

We have been unable to reproduce this problem so are hoping some of our esteemed users can shed some light?

Just a note to confirm that we are reading this thread and considering how best to proceed. We chose the MCE and EyeTV to PIMP initially as these are easy to program and are internet connected. As you know, the Topfield is hard to program and not connected to the net   :(

I'll let you know what we come up with after internal discussions.

Sorry I can't be more definite...

Windows Media Center / Re: PIMP Series Recordings
July 19, 2006, 01:35:59 PM
Not supported yet.. it's certainly on our to-do list.

Not sure yet whether we would support something special to use the MCE native series recording or do the logic at the server and send out individual on-offs.

Any input welcomed.

Actually, after closer investigation, there seems to be more to this than my initial comment and there may be a workaround possible from our end.  We'll look into it further but it may not be a quick fix...

Unfortunately it's a long-standing bug internal to the Topfield and although we have asked them to fix it, they have not.  Does anyone know whether this problem persists with the Masterpiece and other later Toppies?

The new PIMPmyMCE build is here for the moment http://www.icetv.com.au/support/IceTV_1.0.3.zip

I don't think anything has been changed re. padding.  Just the display of scheudled programs should now be corrected.

Windows Media Center / Re: No ABC HD guide listing
July 09, 2006, 08:50:21 AM
Please see this thread form more information about the HD guide.

http://www.icetv.com.au/forum/index.php?topic=93.0

Basicallly, the High Definition (HD) guides that we supply are designed to be true representations of which shows are to be shown on these channels in HD. The gaps that are shown are periods where either a demo loop will be shown or where a Standard Definition shows are being shown that have been
up-converted.

If we don't have any information about what will be HD we take the safe approach of saying "unknown" and if the whole day's guide is "unknown" we don't generate a listing for that day at all.  This is a result of previous experience where people would unexpectedly miss their recording becuase it was not broadcast in HD for one reason or another.

However the situation with HD seems to be improving so we are reviewing our protocol, so any suggestions on a foolproof strategy are welcome.

We think we found the problem - it was in the client program so there is a new alpha 1.0.2 at
http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/downloads.cgi?op=get_file&number=13

Let's know if that fixes the problem for you.

I guess the fix will only apply to newly scheduled shows so you might need to delete the faulty scheduled entries.

I was just wondering if the genious Peter Vogel at IceTV is also the Peter Vogel responsible for
Fairlight CMI's?

Sure am.   And they tried to sue Fairlight copyright breach as well... unsucessfully of course.  A case of "deja sue" ?

Yes the bug with the guide show names is still in this version but I actually think the bug lies on the website as the correct times are scheduled for recording.

We are having some trouble pinning this one down.  If someone can provide a couple of examples where the problem is visible for a show a few days in teh future it might give us more of a chance of tracking it down.

It seems to have something to do with timings changing, since the way the PIMP web UI displays the name is from reverse lookup of the guide base don times.

Perhaps it's to do with timezones or something?

PROBLEM
Does this minimize down to a small icon next to the clocK?
because mine won't do it as previous version it did..
Roman.

Doug advised me that mijnimising to the system tray was causing problems - he has disabled it for now in an effort to get the other fixes over and tested first, then he will revisit the issue.

Mine is minimising down next to the clock, but is also sitting in my taskbar... yes this is different to the previous version where it just minimised next to the clock - Ice Team - is this a bug or by design?

Thanks,
Shane.

Sounds like a bug but I will get back to you after I've checked with Doug (who wrote it).

General Discussions / Re: And on the 8th day ....
July 03, 2006, 12:07:47 PM
Totally agree that 8 days would be nice to have. It's a matter of resources. As you probably know, we write the guide (for 7,9,10) ourselves and for this we employ 5 people which costs a lot!

I'll make a deal: everyone sign up lots of friends and when we get to breakeven we'll have 8
days at least ;-)

Thanks for the details Shane. Doug (who wrote the PIMP client) is investigating.
