Windows Media Center / Movie Guide Genres
October 04, 2009, 04:01:11 AM
If you go into Movie Guide (not movie library) you get a list of all the movies that are on that week.  Two things:
1) Are the colours of the title boxes supposed to reflect some aspect of the movie?
2) Ordering by Genre doesn't give consistent results, except for Genres-All.  For example, selecting a specific genre like Science Fiction/Horror doesn't yield anything, even though there are scifi movies on that week, and do appear if you select All.
This could be either a bug in Media Center or a "problem" in the IceTV data missing some data.

Yes, Ten Digital....  I assume you have Ten-something-icetv?

I have just installed Windows 7 yesterday and read and followed the instructions for downloading and installing the new IceTV guide updates (webget).  This was fresh install of Windows 7, not an update of a previous OS so it wasa clean machine.

Per the instructions, I did the Windows Media Center  7 setup first, including the channel scan (35 services found) prior to installing the webget/load machinery.  I live in Sydney's Inner West.

After runing the webget/load script supplied by IceTV in the post with the installation instructions, all my "usual" channels got correctly mapped to listing suffixed by the -icetv suffic except for 10 Digital.  If have 7 Digital-icetv, GO!-icetv, Nine-icetv, etc, but nothing for channel 10, except for, what I guess is coming from EIT, since 10's guide data is populated.

Any idea on what I should check, what's going wrong.

IceTV EPG Content / Re: Questions on ABC HD content
February 14, 2008, 04:46:01 PM
As far as ABC HDTV is concerned, why does the listing say "No Data Available" then instead of "Unknown".  I thought you guys used "Unknown" to convey that the content was not known to be HD.

I have ABC HDTV assigned to ABD HDTV in the assign-listings-to-channel fandango.

A simple page on this website that says which listing is supposed to be assigned to which channel, for the major regions, would  help a lot.  If there is already one out there someplace, please tell me where it is and/or make it more prominent.

IceTV EPG Content / Questions on ABC HD content
February 13, 2008, 07:06:58 AM
I live in Sydney.

With the new ABC channels, am I supposed to have content for ABC HDTV?  It doesn't show anything.
The other two ABC channels are populated.

A complete channel list of what guide info should be assigned to which channel (including the channel numbers as you did with the ABC changes) would be most useful.  I am never sure, for example, which SBS channel should be assigned which guide listing.  Seems Ten channel1 seems to have changed content too.

I noted that number number of shows to be recorded was low and checked tht nothing was set record for next Wednesday or Thursday (April 11 and 12).

I downloaded the guide again just about 20 minutes ago and there is no data for these days except for ABC.

What's up?

I would appreciate a response from the IceTV content makers on this....we're looking into it, it is never going to be changed, etc....

How about keeping the title to just Australian Idol?  Actually this applies to other TV shows as well that I almost missed recording or did miss recording (Dragons Den .vs. Dragon's Den).

Everytime you change the title, it can't be automatically recorded, naturally, since that title isn't is the Series List, which is both annoying and unnecessary, especially when you provide content about what the show is about (i.e, put Final 24, or whatever there instead).

Please keep the title the same for shows that are obviously the same series.  Otherwise I am going to end up with Idol: the final 20, Final 10, Final 5 etc, which is rediculous.

As regards the 'tone' of the Ice staff, I can't see a single thing in their posts here that could be taken as offensive or inappropriate - they are at most accurate, succinct and to the point, nothing more.

I think you are taking things a little too far if you found the replies or descriptions offensive or upsetting.  At the end of the day, you can still record programmes far more accurately that if you did not have Ice, which is after all the whole point of this service.

You don't get a vote in what I might find offensive, inappropriate, or upsetting.

For the record, I never said "offensive" or "upsetting" so please don't put words in other persons' mouths.  That is rude and disingenuous.

The point is that we have gotten the point.

I am not paying for IceTV's opinions things and I believe this is a misuse of your position as content providers.

They used to be witty, but are now, as so many things done ad nauseum become, tiresome.  A non-IceTV user who was over at my house was looking through the channel Guide and laughed at the first couple, but his delight soon turned to consternation eventually resulting in "Gee...these guys need to give it a rest...not funny anymore".
I was, frankly, a little embarrassed.

I also do not care for the tone used in replies to me in this thread from IceTV staff.

You are doing yourselves a disservice by continuing this and should look at threads on this in the XPMedia Center forums for similar comments.

Don't spoil our support of your company by being churlish.

 >:(

The first couple of program content descriptions for various Channel 9 shows were cute/funny/humourous but enough is enough.

I sympathise with IceTV about Channel 9's outrageous court action but I am paying for content descriptions, not all the opinion expressed in the TV Guide.

Knock it off already.  We get your point, now get back to doing what we are paying you for, providing content description.

Same here.  I unchecked and then rechecked the Automatically Adjust time setting and all is well now.  Thanks Daniel.

I guess the hotfix didn't exacty do the whole job.

QuoteHi ozbear,

One thing that will affect this is whether or not the hotfix for daylight savings has been installed on the MCE system. Unfortunately with or without this patch the timezone and time can appear correct even if they aren't.

You can check to ensure that it is installed from the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel. Once the control panel is open you will need to tick the box marked "Show Updates", this will list all Windows Hotfixes and patches as well. The hotfix for daylight savings changes is "Hotfix for Windows XP (KB912475)".

If it's not installed then it can either be gotten from Windows Update or directly from http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=912475.

Daniel,

The hotfix, KB912475 was installed on March 23, 2006.

Since my time is now set correctly on the MCE box and the Guide data is 1 hour too early, I would have thought that the problem could only be at the server end.

Looks like the Commonwealth Games time change update didn't work on my MCE box this morning since it transaitioned an hour backwards.  I reset the time manually from 7:30 am to 8:30 am to agree with reality but the Ice Guide listings are now showing 1 hour ealier than they should, according to NineMSN's website.  For example, Jude Judy is normally on at 3 pm but is showing 2 pm in my MCE guide.

I have run a guide update this morning but that didn't affect the times.  The guide data is still wrong.

What's going on?
