Humax / Re: Signal Breaking Up
October 17, 2012, 08:09:52 AM
I had this problem on another PVR and it turned out to be a faulty internal power supply. The regulated voltage to the tuner was drifting out of spec and causing the signal breakdown you have described. The symptoms were ambient temperature dependant, as the capacitors in the power supply were effected by temperature. It was worse in cool weather.

Possibly with two tuners drawing power it is worse. Just a long shot.

Humax / Re: Daylight Savings Time?
October 02, 2012, 08:56:42 AM
Sounds like your problem is WIN, not the box. The time signal comes from the channel, consisting of universal time and time offset such as daylight saving. The box uses this information together with the time zone you have selected to calculate local time.

Perhaps WIN have triggered the daylight saving offset too early. Give them a call, they probably have already had several.

From a hassle perspective I'd agree with you Dave. Under consumer law however the fact that you opened the case does not void the warranty. A warranty covers faults in materials and labour. The vendor would have to show that your actions contributed to the fault. This might mean you have an argument and yes, some may agree it's not worth the aggravation.

Cheers.

I'm still thinking possible hard drive problem. You could take any recordings off and reformat the hard drive?

Strange because the issues you mention would seem to be firmware related. Unless of course you have a dicky hard drive...

I know it's a dumb question but have you installed and verified the latest firmware released only a couple of days ago? Also have you done a complete power off using either the rear switch or unplug? Not sure about the Humax but on my TV the extent to which the EPG is populated depends on what channel the unit is tuned to at the time.

Mine is only a few months old and working pretty much flawlessly so you may have a lemon.

Humax / Fix for Humax Display
August 27, 2012, 08:20:38 AM
The only thing I didn't like about my Humax was the barely legible front panel display. Over the weekend I removed the orange filter that is glued to the front of the VFD module. I now have a clear display, even in standby. Not only that but the green display colour compliments the 'blue circle'.

Only moderate difficulty level and took about 20 minutes. Would recommend if you are unhappy with your display.

Last night I dug out a Logitech Harmony 300i universal remote that I got from Aldi a while ago and never used, cost $15.
Downloaded the commands from Logitech for the Humax and the Bauhn TV, as well as a low budget AudioSonic DVD player I've had for years. All worked like a dream. Even has a button that turns on the PVR and TV at the same time.

Cheers.

Or try the Humax remote's auto/search mode to find a code that operates your TV.

Did not know this existed Dave. Can't see it in the manual, how do I activate it?

Thanks,

Hello all.

Does anybody know the code for a Bauhn AS-39FHD1 TV? It's a fairly recent Aldi offering. I tried all the Medion codes but no luck.

Thanks.

Just for reference, I didn't have power saving switched on.

Hello Dave, thanks for the reply. I think I can put the 'not enough disc space' down to a Humax quirk. I discovered that my file did in fact transfer in full. Instead of bringing up a message saying 'copy complete' or similar, it brings up the 'not enough disc space' message. I've now seen a few references to this on UK sites. Not something you would notice unless watching the screen at the time.

Cheers.

Humax / Time Reference
July 25, 2012, 04:00:37 PM
Hello all.

Last night we had a power failure at home and when I got up the time on the Humax was about 2 hours out. It was in Standby so I powered it on and the time corrected. I'm guessing that if a program was scheduled it would not come out of Standby at the correct time? This seems a bit strange. Does it not update time in Standby? Where does the time reference come from?

Speaking of time, the front display is barely legible, especially in Standby. I read somewhere that an orange filter on the display can be removed. Has anybody done this?

Only other curiousity I've come across in one week of ownership is that USB drives are 'remembered', so even if the same one is unplugged and reconnected it shows up as two USB drives. Also shows USB's that are not even connected anymore. Only way I've found to clear the list is to fully power off.

Cheers.

USB transfer - If you copy recordings to a thumb drive or usb HDD then the standard def recordings are unencrypted but hi def are. If you then copy them back to the Humax HDD you can FTP them to the network and they are unencrypted. The guys in the UK have custom firmware on their machines to trick the files into thinking they have been through this process.

Hello all. I've just acquired a 7500 and have been playing around with file transfer also. Tried transferring an 8 GB file to an empty 15 GB thumb drive, formatted in ext3. About 2/3 through it comes up with 'not enough space on the drive'? The Humax menu show the thumb drive still has 6GB available.
Also, do you have to copy all the relevant files or just the .ts file? Can you FTP straight from the thumb drive or do you have to copy it back?

Thanks.
