Windows Media Center / Re: Guide Not Downloading
April 07, 2007, 08:23:57 PM
OK so I have tried a couple of the "other" TVGuide solutions and this is what I have come up with.

Installing/Uninstalling ICE over the last few weeks has broken Vista MCE Guide Functionality on my pc.  I know that is a big accusation but it is the only thing that makes any sense to me at this point.

I am continually getting error code 21 no matter what I do or try, there is probably some obscure registry setting that needs to be adjusted to fix this but I don't know what it is and I have no intention of reinstalling Vista on this machine so it will stay broken.

I have to say this whole thing has left a very sour taste in my mouth, the whole reason I subscribe to ICE is so I don't have to screw around with installing software and tweaking settings to get a TV guide. >:(

Daniel

Thanks for that, I tried what you suggested and it has made no difference.

The guide still refuses to download and gives me the error about Mismatch Data.

No TV Guide for Vista through ICE.

Well still not working and I don't know what else to try.

Clearly though the uninstall is not working completely as when I reinstall PIMP it has remembered all my settings, username password PIMP Device.

I went looking for a file to delete but not sure where it would be.

And no re-installation is not an option as this is my main PC.

Luckily I have a Topfield 5000 which works perfectly.

OK So I tried this, went through the wizard first time and told it No to "Do you want to use the guide?".

Then closed Media Center Opened again and ran through the wizard saying yes, when it goes to download the data I get an error
"File Validation Error - Mismatch Guide Package Code 21"  Tried Rebooting, same error.

So then I reran IceGuide4MCE and now MCE Tells me no guide data is available for my region.

Suggestions?!

Windows Media Center / Guide Not Downloading

Using Latest version of PIMP in Vista and the guide is not downloading.

The connection works, the test works, but when I tell it to download the MediaCenter Icon sits in the taskbar and stays at 0%.

Been like this for over a week now.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing all the channels and rescanning.

Very frustrated at this point.  Anybody have any suggestions?

Yeah i saw it last night - looked great much better than what WIN has been serving up.

Let's just hope Ten stick with it.

Thanks for the updates.

Goldcoastguy - I was hoping that it would be widescreen but I did some digging on the Ten Website and they also claim The Simpsons as Widescreen - so clearly TEN have no idea what widescreen actually is.

Makes no sense to me as Letterman has been Widescreen HD for over twelve months and we still get the 4:3 broadcast.

I'm in Townsville but use the Brisbane Guide as Ice Source.

From the above it appears Southern Cross Ten will be airing it but not Ten Brisbane?

That seems odd but as long as it's on here I'm happy.

Thanks

Letterman is moving to Channel Ten from 1 January, but I've just checked the IceGuide for next week and Letterman is not listed.

Channel Ten's Website shows that it is on around midnight every night next week.

Any idea why it's not showing up in the IceGuide?  Is it going to be on? There hasn't been much publicity around about the move.

That's what I do. It means you might have to watch the last 2 mins of Futurama in The Simpsons recording.

As far as I'm aware, the change over to the new recording happens in a matter of seconds. I haven't noticed any gap worthy of a mention.

Thats the reason i do it - nothing worse than having to go searching for another recording to watch the last two minutes of a show.

And in a lot of cases it's far worse than a few minutes - like ten or twenty for anything on after a reality show.

I've also found in the past that I do miss more than a few seconds during the changeover.

Merging timers is important in the following scenario

   Channel 10
   7:00 Futurama
   7:30 The Simpsons

Instead of setting two separate timers for Futurama and The Simpsons with a pause in the middle I set one timer starting at 6:55 finishing at 8:05. I could set two timers using two tuners but when something is on another channel at the same time that doesn't work.

What I like about JustEPG is when I set the Simpsons recording in the above scenario it will ask me if I want to merge it with Futurama.

In terms of usefulness I use it all the time - in my current schedule I have about five different merged timers.

Thanks for the responses.

I guess what I'm looking for is HD with the same functionality as my Toppy.

I watch a lot of TV and merging of timers is important because more often than not I'm already taping something on another channel at the same time.  Currently I'm using JustEPG on the Toppy which is a very elegant solution and is smart enough to merge adjacent timers.

Provided I'm willing to drive this system partially via Keyboard/Mouse it may not be a deal breaker.  I'll just have to manually schedule timers for the overlapping shows.

Likkie - The jerkiness problem you described while recording two shows - were they HD or SD? That would definitely be a deal breaker for me on SD.  Are you sure a more powerful Mini would solve the problem?

EyeTV / EyeTV - Actual User Opinions
November 21, 2006, 07:46:22 PM

I've been searching the net and several forums for detailed user opinions on the EyeTV.

If anyone using the software could give me some info on the following it would be much appreciated.

In relation to Scheduling from the Guide -

- Can Recordings be set from the full screen menu to repeat each week for the same show?
- Padding of Timers - Is this setup as a default option? Five Minutes Before and After each show?
- Recording two shows together, aka merging of timers eg Futurama at 7:00 and Simpson's at 7:30
- Is it possible to setup to scan the guide for Series and set recordings? Eg Always record The Simpson's whenever its on.

Also
- Any opinions/experience on Dual Tuner Setups such as the EyeTV Diversity or dual EyeTV DTT.
- Can you record two channels and watch something previously recorded?

Basically I'm looking at using a Mac Mini as a Media Centre to replace my current equipment.

For TV currently I use a Topfield 5000 and love its functionality but am looking at upgrading to HD and given the reported price of the new 7000 HD Model this seems to be a more flexible option pending the results of the above questions.

Thanks, appreciate any constructive opinions.
