Looks like I resolved my issue by blocking the freeview URL on my router.

I found guidance in this topic: https://forum.icetv.com.au/iceforum/index.php?topic=7502.0

SKIPPA / Re: SKIPPA error 404
March 06, 2024, 10:13:12 PM
Quote from: Dacho on May 22, 2023, 08:51:59 PMOne way to make the problem go away is to block the website that the skippa is assessing for authentication. I do this with an advert blocker to disallow the skippa to see the website.
Hi Dacho. Hopefully you are still around. :)
I just posted about an error message appearing on my Skippa then found your post above.
Are you able to provide more detail as to how you blocked the site, please?

UPDATE: Further to this, I think I worked out how to block the access at my NBN router, but I need to know the URL to block. I've tried "freeview.com.au", "freeview.com" and "freeview", with no success.

UPDATE2: Looks like this has now worked - just needed a bit of time. My problem appears to be resolved.
Thanks, Dacho, for the suggestion.

SKIPPA / XML parsing failed message during live TV
March 06, 2024, 10:03:33 PM
Hi. Hoping someone may have an easy fix for this problem, please.
This probably started a year or more ago and I've been meaning to report it, but tonight it has become more intrusive.
When watching live TV on the Skippa a "XML parsing failed" message is displayed full screen on a light background.
See image below.
I can make it disappear by toggling subtitles, or hitting the green button, or rewinding the live TV a few seconds.
But as soon as I do anything that displays a Skippa screen like Info, Guide, Recordings, Info box following a channel change, etc, the message comes back a few seconds after that Skippa display disappears.
Prior to tonight it was just white text superimposed over the top left corner of the show, so I could at least keep watching. Now it consumes the whole screen, fully blocking out the underlying show, so has become extremely annoying.
I assume this may be one for the IceTV team to explain, but I'd welcome any suggestions.
I know the Skippa has fallen by the wayside, but it's still my favourite PVR.

SKIPPA / Guide Images Not Appearing
April 20, 2022, 05:44:39 PM
My Skippa guide is just showing the word "Image", rather than the channel logo.

I've performed a Reset EPG with no change.

Any suggestions, please?

SKIPPA / Unable to select ABC/SBS from guide
May 26, 2020, 08:08:28 PM
After a recent Skippa channel rescan, and later a factory reset, I'm having an issue selecting to view any ABC and SBS channels from the guide.

I can see the channels, logos and programs in the guide ok.

However when I try to select to view any of these from the guide I get the following message:
Channel is not available
The available channels can be seen by pressing i and then using the arrow keys to scroll left and right through the channels.
Unavailable channels are greyed out.

If I go to any 7/9/10 channel I can use the up/down buttons ok to get to all the ABC/SBS channels. I can also get to any ABC/SBS channel by keying in its number.

Timers for the affected channels record ok.

Looking at the channel list in Menu-Settings-Channels, I have two sets of ABC channels at 226.50MHz and 578.50MHz.
I also have two sets of SBS channels at 184.50 and 606.50MHz.

I'm assuming this is not right. I'm in Sydney, BTW.

The ABC 578.50MHz and SBS 606.50MHz channels have the "NO EPG" icon. I have used # to disable these channels.
If I don't disable the channel they show up in the guide with no logo and no programs, above the "good" one. However I then CAN select either of these from the guide and the channel does display ok. If I disable either of these channels I get the above message when selecting from the guide.

I'm assuming my problem is due to the two sets of channels after the scan, however I'm unsure how to rectify this.

Any advice, please?

SKIPPA / Re: IceTV Server Issues?
May 21, 2020, 09:41:55 AM
This is resolved, so just a follow up in case it helps others....

The problem eventually spread to my other devices that connect to external resources: my Beyonwiz wouldn't do a time sync or connect to IceTV, my DVD player and TV couldn't connect to check firmware updates. Yet they all tested ok for network and internet connectivity, on both wifi and cabled. My laptop and i-devices all worked ok.

So after factory resetting the router, 2 x Skippas and meshed wifi, I eventually rang my ISP, TPG, for any suggestions. They advised it was a problem with their DNS and had me change the DNS defaults on the router. Problem immediately fixed at 8:00pm, after a full day of hair-pulling and angst.

So my gut-feel that it was internet related was right - it just wasn't at the IceTV end.

MD: Thanks for the help. The Skippa is still going strong.  :)

I've now connected my Skippa via a Telstra wifi dongle and the same problem is happening, so that rules out home internet issues.

I'm guessing there are more wide ranging DNS issues somewhere, as I've now tried TPG and Telstra networks and 2 Skippas.

I'm also now seeing connection issues on my DVD player when connected to home network and wifi, but not via the dongle, yet I have home internet access elsewhere.

So I've moved the HDD to  second Skippa, run factory reset on that, and getting exactly the same problem on the user login:
"Service Errors - Please check your internet connection or try again later"

The network settings say I have internet access.

So I'm guessing the problem is not with 2 Skippas.

I've finally managed to log in, however response is still freezing periodically.

I have a spare Skippa. If the problem persists I'll look at swapping the HDD over and setting that up.

I still have a gut feel that it is internet related, based on past experience.

Tried factory reset twice - same result each time.
Also switched to wifi config, same user authentication error.
This message also takes a long time to appear - 1-2 minutes.

Thanks MD.

I've tried that, and get the message "Service Errors - check internet connection or try again later" when it tries to authenticate my user.
I reset the network settings and it says internet is available.
I have a Wiz connected to the same router and it is connecting to IceTV ok, not to mention my laptop, iPad, iPhone, etc.
Also, when using the onscreen keyboard to set up the user credentials the keyboard periodically freezes for about 10-15 seconds.

Any other thoughts?

Just an update: Have tried another reboot and now the Skippa has been stuck on "Initialising Reminders..." for an hour.

SKIPPA / IceTV Server Issues?
May 20, 2020, 06:27:13 AM
Hi.

Is IceTV having Skippa-related server issues?

My Skippa has been struggling since about 10:00am Tuesday.
The behavior is similar to if I'm having network or internet issues, which I'm not. The Skippa is cabled to the router, and I'm on NBN with full speeds showing.
The Skippa becomes unresponsive to the remote for long periods of time.
I've rebooted several times. Each time, it sits on the screen prompting for login/new account/offline for a long time then eventually moves on ok. The startup process can take 10 minutes, sticking on actions that would appear to be getting iceTV info. e.g. Initialising Reminders.

I've also seen these symptoms when there were issues at the IceTV end.

Any advice, please?

SKIPPA / Lost ABCComedy/Kids Guide Image
April 03, 2020, 05:06:35 PM
Hi.

I've done a rescan on the Skippa to pick up Rush 96.

All that has gone ok, but now there is no image in the guide for channel 22, ABCComedy/Kids.

I've tried a reboot, and waited a few hours. No change.
