January 04, 2024, 05:52:42 PM
FBI: International, 'One Point One Million Followers'
10 Bold (Melbourne), 9:30pm, Tue, 9 Jan 2024, 60 minutes

All episodes of season 1 have been shown previously. Unusual for first runs to be on 10 Bold.

The program is in fact an ancient Who Do You Think You Are? USA episode "Melissa Etheridge" season 6, episode 8 (2015).

IceTV EPG Content / Diagnosis Murder Obsession Part 1?
November 30, 2023, 11:26:08 AM
Yesterday/overnight Diagnosis Murder "Obsession Part 2" was recoded as a series recording, however "Obsession Part 1" does not seem to have been recorded. Was it actually trasmitted recently. Had the same problem last time around, part 2 recorded but not part 1.

The program description for this movie is given as:
QuoteTwo hurricane hunters track a huge, violent hurricane that is bearing down on a Gulf Coast town. (United States, English)

It is in fact set in WW2, and the hurricane in question is an aircraft not a weather phenomena. It seems to deal with the experiences of Polish pilots flying with the RAF.

IceTV EPG Content / Antiques Roadshow Sunday 13-11-23
November 13, 2023, 07:36:32 AM
The episode transmitted (Bishop's Palace Wells 1 - a repeat of an episode transmitted a few weeks ago) was not the advertised one advertised (Ulster [Folk] Museum 2).

I believe this must have been a last minute change by the ABC. Please keep a close eye on episode listings in the coming weeks as this is likely to put things out of kilter.

I will check to see if the "repeat" this morning is of the "correct" episode.

Last night I had scheduled the Moral Hazard episode of Major Crimes on 9Gem HD Melbourne. Last time it was on (some months back) for some reason it did not record, so I had missed it. Owing to the tennis ending 55 minutes early (this is guestimate, based on how much of the episode recorded), but fortunately on my V2 I has 1 hour pre padding (similar setting on my BYOB IceBox), so managed to get the full program. The start was missing on my U4 (only 20 minutes pre padding) and on my 2400 and 5300 (15 minutes pre padding).

So, this time I was very lucky.

Presently there are multiple programs that are being broadcast on more than one network. At one time when setting series recording we could specify the network (rather than LCN). Unfortunately, the LCN on which a network broadcasts a program can change, or be transmitted for example on 9HD and 9Gem HD interchangeably.

Examples I am currently seeing are:
The World's Most Scenic Railway Journeys (SBS and 7Two)
Agatha Rasin (ABC and 9Gem)
Call the Midwife (ABC and 7Two)

In the past there have been problems with
Chris Tarrent Extreme Railway Journeys (SBS and 7Two)

IceTV EPG Content / Agatha Raisin 9Gem are repeats
October 31, 2023, 11:09:10 AM
Last night my 7100+ recorded an episode of Agatha Raisin (The Deadly Dance) on 9Gem HD which was not classed as a repeat.

All four seasons of Agatha Raisin have been aired on ABC. The confusion seems to be caused by the naming of the episodes. On ABC the episode name always started with Agatha Raisin and, whereas those words are not used for 9Gem listing, which I suspect is the reason why episodes on 9Gem are not always marked as a repeat.

If you have scheduled the first run of Antiques Roadshow or The Newsreader on Sunday night it will not record. For The Newsreader you will get the repeat of the prior episode on Saturday night and for Antiques Roadshow you will get the repeat screening of the Sunday episode on Monday morning.

You will have to manually set the timers on the IceBox.

There may be other timers that will not record as expected, but I have not identified them.

If you have a series recording set for Bay of Fires check you IceBox to make sure that the timer has been set. On my week listing it is shown as being set but it is not set when I checked the IceBox (via TVHeadend).

Looks like 9 made a last minute change to lineup last night. Rather than just one episode of London Kills two episodes were transmitted. Presumably the fist episode (which was scheduled on my Topfield 2400/5300, Beyonwiz T2, U4 and V2) is season 3 episode 4 "Control Freak"; and the subsequent episode was presumable season 3 episode 5 "Crossing the Line". Just checked and it appears that London Kills only has 5 episodes in each season. If there is a repeat for episode 5 could it please be marked as premier so that those who missed it can record it.

I was lucky on my T2 I had extremely generous post padding so got both episodes.

This has a repeat flag, but the description says it is new series. The online guide says it is episode 1 of season 7.

I am sure that there was an announcement last Sunday that it was a new series.

The epiosode title may be the cause for confusion, season 7 ep 1 was about William Nicholson whereas season 10 ep 1 is about Ben Nicholson.

General / Time-shift configuration
June 17, 2023, 12:35:02 PM
Time-shift is not configured by the IceBox configuration wizard. In recent days the members of the beta testing team have been testing time-shift and it seems to work as one would expect.

Time-shift is configured using TVHeadend.
TVHeadend TimeShift Configuration 01.gifTVHeadend TimeShift Configuration 02.gifTVHeadend TimeShift Configuration 03.gif

It is important to click on save!

Once time-shift configured, when you are watching live TV you can pause, and go backwards or forwards in the same way you do when playing a recording.

At this stage, I am not aware of any way of saving the time-shift buffer. When you change the channel being used, be time-shift buffer is cleared and a new time shift buffer is created for the channel now being viewed.

The size of the time-shift buffer is up to you; I prefer to set it to 3 hours and sufficient storage to store 3 hours of HD recording.

My TRF2400 and TRF5300 recorded what was reported by them an episode of Law & Order last night on 7Flix which was actually an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. As that program did not record on Beyonwiz or IceBox I suspect there was a late correction that did not get through to the Toppys.

The forum is suffering from intermittent responsiveness problems. It would be appreciated if this could be attended to.

Doctor Who, 'Last Christmas', ABC TV Plus/Kids, 11:47pm, Sat, 8 Apr 2023, 62 minutes (got email indicating the program was not in the IceBox data base).

This program is not in the IceBox EPG data (looked using TVHeadend), and there appears to be a gap between Melbourne Comedy Festival (which is not in the online guide) and Would I Lie to You?

Would appreciated if this could be fixed.

I have added screenshot - issue with other ABC LCNs about the same time

BYOB / Tuners that I got to work with BYOB IceBox
March 17, 2023, 06:11:46 PM
I have got XBOX ONE USB tuner to work with my BYOB IceBox; also got the Sony PlayTV Dual USB tuner to work. Tuners that work with my Beyonwiz also appear to work.

Update - more detailed information

USB Tuners
IceTV Dual USB [Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD] (Silicon Labs Si2168)
XBOX ONE (Panasonic MN88472)
Sony PlayTV dual tuner (DiBcom 7000PC)
Tuner from Beyonwiz (Afatech AF9033)
Generic USB tuner (Realtek RTL2832)

PCIe Tuners
Hauppauge PCIe card: HVR-QuadHD PCIe (?)

Update 2: Some USB tuners are less reliable than others. The Beyonwiz tuners can be flakey (as they are, in my experience, on the T2). Also potentially problematic are Generic USB tuner mentioned above - the problem is with the way it connects to the recorder, not the chipset itself; the same would go for the Beyonwiz tuner.

Update 3: Tuner support in the current beta firmware seems to have improved, particularly with generic tuners.

We suspect this only happens if you do not have "Enable Timer Conflict Avoidance" selected in your account settings.

Two beta testers have a series timer for Last Tango in Halifax, and for some reason ABC has scheduled the same epiode at about 1:00 am and 3:00 am on the same day. The timer for the first disappears and the timer for the second is duplicated [as far as I can work out, it only records once]. So far this has happened two weeks in a row.

Today I noticed an extreme instanced of this, the timer for the 20 March episode of Padington 24/7 disappeared, and timer for the 21 March episode was duplicated - but in this case the timers were for different episodes.

So, if you do not have timer conflict avoidance active (which also prevents recodings of episodes recorded recently), check your My Week listing regularly to see if there are timers that have not been scheduled (red circle rather than red ball) and verify if they have been scheduled, either by looking at the IceTV timers listing, or via TVHeadend. In some cases the timer will be scheduled, but not reported as being scheduled in My Week.

If you are using conflict avoidance, it appears that this problem does not arise.

This episode is in the EPG twice, with just an hour or so in between, ABC HD 12:37 am and 03:18 am. Is the dual scheduling correct?
