Plex / XMLTV Guide is empty!
July 16, 2021, 07:48:48 AM
Overnight, my Plex DVR Schedule has become empty.
If I try to refresh the guide data, it initialises for a few seconds and then reports "100% Downloaded 0 airings"
I have tried updating my Plex server to the latest version and my NAS software to the latest firmware (though each of these was only one minor update behind).
Still get the same result.
I have NOT tried deleting and recreating my DVR Setup, and really don't want to if I don't have to, since I have over 300 shows and movies in my recording list (most of these not currently airing of course) which will presumably be lost if I delete the DVR.
Please advise.

Plex / Action Required: DVR Guide Change
January 15, 2021, 05:36:04 AM
Plex sent me an email recently advising (only found in last night) advising that "in order to ensure your DVR continues to function after the end of next week (January 15) you'll need to delete your current DVR configuration, create a new one, and reschedule your recordings."  The full text of that email is copied below.
I'm hoping that this doesn't apply to IceTV users in Australia since we're not using the Plex EPG in the first place?  Can someone confirm?
That would be a LOT of work if I had to do this, as I have lots of shows with "no upcoming airings" all ready for when the show (or movie) next screens, so I want to avoid doing this if at all possible.
Thanks,
Peter

Email from plex:
Action Required: DVR Guide Change
As mentioned in the email we sent you last month, we're making some necessary changes to the way your Plex DVR fetches program guide data. As a result, in order to ensure your DVR continues to function after the end of next week (January 15) you'll need to delete your current DVR configuration, create a new one, and reschedule your recordings.

We know this is a massive inconvenience, but hear us out. Many users all over the world have consistently been reporting issues with the data from our previous program guide provider, leading to frustrating missed or incorrect recordings, or other less-than-ideal experiences like gaps in the program guide. We worked hard to address these, but at the end of the day we concluded that switching to a different provider, Gracenote, was the best long-term solution. As a result, you should have a much more reliable and consistent experience, both in finding what's on and recording your preferred programs, as well as correct sequencing of series.

Unfortunately, it wasn't technically possible to migrate your lineup settings and recording schedule to use the new source of guide data. As a result, you'll need to start over with a new DVR configuration. Again, we apologize for the extra work on your end, but we are confident that it will make for a much richer, dependable and easier TV experience for all.

For more info and instructions on how to get up and running, check out our forum post.

Thanks for being a part of the Plex community. Happy watching,

IceTV EPG Content / MacGyver vs MacGyver (2016)
July 28, 2020, 11:29:52 AM
Sydney 10Bold is currently running episodes of both the original MacGyver and the 2016 reboot, but your website and XMLTV guides show them as all the same show.
Any chance that the 2016 reboot could be renamed to "MacGyver (2016)"?
Thanks

IceTV EPG Content / The Blob - movie not show
June 09, 2020, 07:36:55 AM
I noticed an apparent new show on the Sydney Guide Sun 14/6 12:10am "The Blob"
This looks like the movie (remake) rather than a TV show

IceTV EPG Content / Xena: Warrior Princess
June 09, 2020, 07:34:41 AM
I've been trying to work out why Plex keeps recording episodes of Xena: Warrior Princess that are already in my library.  I've done all the Plex things I can think of including deleting and recreating both the show in the library and the recording.
Best I can figure out is that it can't match the show at recording time because it is called "Xena - Warrior Princess" on the guide, vs "Xena : Warrior Princess" in the library.
Is there any chance you could change the naming of the show to use the : (colon) instead of - (hyphen).
Thanks,
Peter

Twice in the last week, I have apparently been recording missing episodes of Seinfeld, but the episodes recorded have not matched your guide.  The upcoming episodes also appear to be different than other TV guides.
Sydney Channel 10 Peach using Plex
On 15/5 I recorded an episode labelled S06E03 The Pledge Drive, but what I got was S05E21 The Hamptons
On 19/5 I recorded an episode labelled S06E06 The Gymnast, but what I got was S06E02 The Big Salad
The next upcoming episode tonight (Fri 22/5) your XMLTV and online guides list S06E08 The Mom and Pop Store at 8pm, (and 10Play's own guide agrees with you) but ourguide.com.au lists this as "The Gymnast".  Time will tell if this is correct, but this would match up with the screened episodes being 4 episodes behind your guide, like the examples above, so it appears they know something that you and others don't!?

This probably sounds tedious, but your naming of these episodes using "and" instead of "&" creates problems with PlexPVR, as these are actually seen as different shows.  I already have most (but not all) "Trial & Error" episodes in my library, but Plex keeps recording every aired episode of "Trial and Error".
I guess I could create a duplicate/dummy "Trial and Error" show in my library, with all the same episode numbers, and that would probably allow me to specify which episodes need to be recorded, but that seems messy.

Is there any way that you can change the naming on your program?

Otherwise I guess I'll just have to keep recording duplicates until I get the missing episodes I'm after, and then delete it from my PVR

Thanks,
Peter

I'm frequently finding that IceTV is creating airdate based series and episode numbers, whenever an episode has 2 parts.  I  discussed this problem with Daniel way back in Jun 2019, and I think it was after this discussion that IceTV started doing this.  I have included an excerpt of that email discussion in italics below.

On Jun 10 2019 at 11:47am Daniel wrote: I think there is definitely going to be an issue where the Australian broadcasters split an episode into two parts when it is not listed as two parts on TVDB, we might need to just hold off and not add the series and episode numbers for these and let it show up as the dates to ensure they both get recorded.

BUT, that discussion related to situations where a network would split the SAME episode over 2 different nights.
What I have been finding is that you also often do this whenr two consecutive episodes, with DISTINCT/different episode numbers in TVDB, have the same name, with parts 1 & 2 in the title.  For example, next Mon 16/3 in Sydney on ABC22, you have
The Office (US)
10/4/11—Classy Christmas - Part 1

But in TVDB, this "Part1" episode has a distinct episode number S07E11 and "Part2" is S07E12.

Because you don't use these episode numbers, my Plex PVR records all of these airdate based episodes, even when I already have those episodes in my library.

Is there any way that you can refine your systems to only use the airdate episode naming where the different parts DON'T have their own distinct episode numbers?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi,
Trial and Error has a few missing episode numbers this week.  As a result, back-to-back episodes are seen as the same episode by Plex and it will record only the first one.
Sydney TV on 7Flix 2:00pm - 3:00pm every day this week -and probably next week.
Mon - OK
Tue - Should be S01E04 and S01E05
Wed - OK
Thu - OK
Fri - Should be S01E10 and S01E11
presumably subsequent episodes will screen next week

Peter

IceTV EPG Content / Tom and Jerry
October 19, 2019, 09:54:17 PM
The episodes you have listed as "Tom and Jerry Tales" on 9Go! Sydney at 4pm Weekdays are not a part of the "Tom and Jerry Tales" listed in TVDB.
They are part of "The Tom and Jerry Show" TVDBID#ID280446

IceTV EPG Content / Looney Tunes
October 19, 2019, 08:45:14 PM
I thought it was good to see Looney Tunes on your TV guide, and provided a chance to relive some classic animation, and maybe see if my kids enjoyed these classics.
And it was great to see that you even included episode numbers and names for these, but unfortunately they don't match up with the TVDB so Plex and Traktv can't identify these episodes.
You show two different shows screening...

1) The Looney Tunes Show - this show is TVDBID#ID248368, but the episodes being screened are not a part of this show, they are actually in "New Looney Tunes" TVDBID#300683.  And each screening is actually 4 episodes.  So for instance the episode screened on 19/10/19 in Sydney and labelled "The Looney Tunes Show - 2018-04-29 00 00 00 - Quiet The Undertaking Bugs Bunny Wet Feet There's A Soccer Born Every Minute" needs to be relabeled in Plex as "New Looney Tunes - S01E93-S01E96 - Quiet The Undertaking Bugs Bunny Wet Feet There's A Soccer Born Every Minute".

2) Classic Looney Tunes - although this is descriptive, there is no such show, and Plex for some reason matches this show to "Baby Looney Tunes" TVDBID#71301.
The correct show is just "Looney Tunes" TVDBID#72514.  Of course the correct naming would be of only limited benefit if you actually can provide the episode numbers and/or names too, and I don't know if you are given that information?  For instance the episode screen in Sydney on 19/10/19 and labelled "Classic Looney Tunes - 2019-10-19 07 00 00 - Episode 10-19" actually includes all of these episodes:
S1959E02 Mouse-Placed Kitten
S1952E29 Full Coverage
S1964E09 Hawaiian Aye Aye

Any chance you could correct these?  It's nice to collect some of these shows, but probably not worth the effort if I have to relabel every episode manually.
Thanks.

IceTV EPG Content / Mrs. Brown's Boys
October 19, 2019, 08:17:30 PM
For weeks I've had problems with Mrs.Browns Boys episode numbers, and figured I'd just put up with it, as they appear to have a lot of their episodes named as specials rather than seasons, and I was happy just to rename these episodes after recording.  But it's becoming more of a problem, continually trying to re-record episodes I already have, and conflicting with other recordings, so I thought I'd ask in case you can fix it.  I'm not sure how IceTV and Plex can deal with "Special" episodes?

Here are the examples from the current guide.  All on Sydney TV, Channel 7Two, recording with Plex DVR
* Sun 20/10 9:30pm labelled S03E07 Mammy Christmas - is actually Special 04
* Sun 20/10 10:15pm labeled as S03E08 The Virgin Mammy - is actually Special 05
* Mon 21/10 10:30pm labelled as S04E01 Buckin' Mammy  - actually Special 06
* Thu 24/10 10:10pm labelled as 4/9/14—Who's a Pretty Mammy? - actually Special 07
* Fri 25/10 11:15pm labelled as S01E07 - Mammy's Gamble - actually Special 10

I've even tried adding entries in the Plex database, creating for instance a copy of the episode and labelling it S01E07 - Mammy's Gamble, but even with this in the database, Plex is still (for a reason I cannot yet fathom), trying to re-record this episode.

Any ideas how you can better label these Specials?

Life Sentence - Sydney - Thu 19/9/19 - 12:40am
Most other programs have this episode listed as S01E09, rather than S01E08.  The latter was already screened 12/9

IceTV EPG Content / The Fate of the Furious
July 30, 2019, 07:18:21 AM
In Plex, The Fate of the Furious is a appearing as a series rather than a movie.
I realise it's being screened twice this week, and that it is a very long franchise, but still I don't think that makes it a series :-)
Sydney, 8:30pm Wed 31/7 and 8:30pm Mon 5/8

IceTV EPG Content / Agent Carter
July 30, 2019, 07:11:35 AM
This week you have duplicate episode numbers on some episodes which means that Plex will only record one of them.
Plex, Sydney, 2pm on each of the following days...
I believe the correct episode numbering for this week's episodes are:
Wed 7/25/16 -> S02E03
Thu 7/25/16 -> S02E04
Fri 8/1/16 -> S02E05
Mon 8/1/16 -> S02E06

Plex / Foreign Language Movies
July 02, 2019, 08:16:23 PM
It seems there's no easy way to tell from the guide when a movie (or show) is in a foreign language.
Any suggestions?
I live in Sydney and use Plex with IceTV XMLTV

I wonder if it would be possible for IceTV to create another newsletter for subscribers that advised any series pilots coming up in the next week?
I can get a similar newsletter from Trakt, but that relates to US screening times rather than local Australian programming.
I think it would be good if such a newsletter contained all upcoming S01.E01 shows, even if they were repeats - that way we could know to start recording an old show from the start (assuming of course that the network played the episodes in order - I know they don't always)

I'm in Sydney using Plex and HDHR tuner.
Now, I'm not particularly a fan or expert on this Travel Oz show - I've never actually watched an episode yet!
But I thought I might take a look at it, so I added it to my recording schedule, and have noticed that it has no season or episode numbers.  I couldn't find it on Trakt.tv or thetvdb.com either.  But I did find an official site to the show at traveloztv.com
So I thought, as a learning exercise, I'd try to add the show to thetvdb and trakt myself
So I've added 4 seasons and all episodes for each season including a name and description for each episode, copying and pasting direct from the shows own site.
The tvdb ID is #365661
However, the episode names appear to be similar but not identical to the ones shown on your guide.
And the episode dates are also different (and a little more time-consuming to get from the official site) so I have not added these into thetvdb.
Is this tvdb information I have added something you can use in your guide?
If not, is there a better way I could have done this to make it useful?
Regards,
Peter
