Is there any simple way to copy a program recorded on a Topfield masterpiece 5000 wirelessly to a Mac running Tiger or Leopard through an IceBox 2?

Can this be done somehow simply using the web based browser?  Can it be done using an FTP client like Transmit or Fetch?

When I attempt access using Transmit I can "see" the relevant folders (headed Datafiles, Firmware,ICE,MP3,ProgramFiles) but I don't seem to be able to access the files within them.

Solutions?

Cheers

Topfield / Re: Mac support please!

Thought I'd add my own 2 Cents worth to this one.

I came across IceTv after getting an Elgato EyeTV back at the time when Ice were developing their 'widget" and before there was full integration with the Elgato. It was a bit frustrating at the time but the properly integrated end product now available works wonderfully for me. Simple, effective, one might well say "Mac like"!

I also own a Topfield 5000 "masterpiece", which I'm also very fond of. I tried for a while to get the "3rd party" hacks going to enable use of one our numerous Macs for program guide updates.   It worked, sort of, some times. I rapidly got fed up with it. The built in "official" program info got a bit better and I got tired of the hassle.  I haven't bothered using IceGuide on the Topfield for the last year or so. A pity , because the IceGuide stuff leaves the "official" material for dead. It is way easier to set up a recording on my IceGuide based Elgato hooked up to the Mac than it is using the Topfield.

Accordingly I sing the praises of IceGuide to Mac owners thinking of buying an Elgato tuner. On the other hand I've always warned Topfield purchasers with Macs not to expect too much and to think twice before they bother with IceGuide , based on my own experiences. (I'm one of the three or four Australian 'Level 4's" on the official Apple discussion boards and I get quite a few queries both on the boards and by email about such things from other Aussies.)

Well, given the Christmas "price cut" I've decided to give the IceBox2 a go, to see if it really does resolve the various IceTV issues for Mac based Topfield owners.  I hasten to add that this is not an endorsement of the IceBox2 approach (which even with the current price reduction , on the face of it, seems like a fairly expensive answer to the issue of getting a few lines of information from one device to another!). I simply don't know yet. I'll post here when I do.

One thing I do know, though, is that IceTV and Topfield are both crazy if they don't do their damndest to cater for the Mac market to the very best of their abilities. Apple are going gangbusters at present. They are also the company that has taken the digital media market bull by the horns and are leading the running on it in just about every department.  IceTV and Topfield, no doubt, can find rationalisations for failures of integration blamed on the other which seem eminently plausible, but if they really care about their stockholders then they will be doing their very best to overcome such problems and to hook properly into the Mac scene:- a rapidly growing, cashed up, segment of the IT market that simply cries out for the sort of products that they sell.

Rod - do you have an IceTV username that is an email address?

If so - go to http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/webmembers.cgi?op=showIceguide then into the Billing tab, and change your username to a single word username.

Update the details in EyeTV and let me know if it works (I had the same problem and this fixed it).

Regards,
Shane.

Ah Shane, you are a marvel! That was exactly the problem. Fixed it perfectly.  This issue would be well worth a specific FAQ, or a mention in the existing one, I reckon.

Many thanks.

All I can say is WOW guys.

I'm afraid all I can say is "well , it doesn't want to work for me."

Whenever (after working through all the previous steps in the IceTV support document) I go to the EyeTV Programs screen ((I have three options here in the EPG listings - DVD, IceTV and "None") and attempt to select the iceTV option  for a channel  , I get a message saying "Please select an EPG Channel for...."  (whatever the channel may be). Below this is a box in which the only thing which appears is "none" (with a "cancel" and "assign" option below). There seems to be no way of entering anything other than "None"!

What am I doing wrong?

Any further news on when PIMP may become available?

I might add, I's I'd still like to try it with my ElgatoEyeTV even if it is still in beta.

Hi Rod,

Do you have more details on what is happening? Is the widget slow to update? or does it take a long time for a program to schedule programs in EyeTV?

Thanks for replying.

Is the widget slow to update?  Yes, despite a 1500/256 ADSL connection and a 2 GHZ G5 on this end.

Does it take a long time to schedule?  Not slow usually . The problem is that with some programs it simply doesn't schedule at all!

What's Pimp?  Seemingly another feature that is "coming soon", but which already appears on the website just to confuse and tantalise us mere mortals!

I'm getting tired of this , guys!

When do I get to use my ICE Subscription effectively with my EyeTV DTT & EyeTV2 without havng to mess around with slow updating, somewhat problematic Widgets?

When do  I have access to a fully searchable program listing for the following week?

Why does the PIMP page tell me that I can have acces to it once I log in, but then , when I do, tell me that not all registered , paid up, users have access to it ? Surely you could help me avoid wasting my time by telling me that it won't work for me  BEFORE I try to log in to PIMP. Surely you could also  expalin why some fee paying members apparently get access while others, like me, apparently don't!?

Why does no-one from Ice ever bother answering people's Q's here?

I'm getting a bit fed up with all of this. It will have to get better fast if I'm going to bother renewing my subscription!  I don't mind some teething troubles, and I'm even happy to put up with more than a few issues as long as they are clearly admitted and explained along the way, but a combination of non- performance and utter silence is a recipe for the  quick demise of just about any venture.

Sadly all that seems to have happened here since my last visit is that a new, even less user friendly, version of the icetv web pages has been developed.  >:(

Not happy, Jan!
