Perhaps I have missed something ?

I do not think you've missed much. Sounds like a pretty good summary to me !

I see people expressing concern for the IceTV employees and, in the same post, stating they won't be subscribing to the service they obviously value because they aren't happy with how the situation has been (successfully) resolved. If the new IceTV isn't profitable, those very employees will lose their jobs. A bit hypocritical IMO.

I also feel for the employees, but I won't be stumping up another $8 a month for the service.
I can't see the hypocrisy you mention though, I've lost many years of my subscription and I have decided the new charges are unreasonable for the service and I've found an alternative solution (TiVo).

Sorry for getting anyone's hopes up. The good news didn't last long. A few vital employees declined to take up the offer of working for the new version of IceTV so it's all over.

Everything needed to produce and supply a hand curated TV guide with smart scheduling still exists. There's just not the staff to run it...

That's terrible news for you guys Dave, hope the future holds a new opportunity for you.

IceTV were the importers of the UEC product.

Given the information vacuum, this is of course total speculation.

Yes, it is speculation. The news reports suggest that the OEM was UEC Altech (the Australian company), rather than the member of the Altech group that actually manufactured the unit. If that is in fact the case, they would presumably be a manufacturer for the purposes of the Australian Consumer Law. The fact that they have suspended operations in Australia is a complicating factor.

Ian

Bit of a coincidence that the UEC webpage has also gone down? http://www.uec.com.au/

Humax / Re: 7500T has a rest again
October 02, 2015, 04:18:30 PM
My 7500T has been a joke.
The front display randomly doesn't work, the unit randomly locks up, the unit randomly fails to record and the unit randomly stops downloading the IceTV guide.
I have exchanged units 3 times (first one had a very noisy fan, the second one had the intermittent front display and now this one)..
I purchased about 12months ago and I guess it is still inder the 24 month warranty mentioned on the box, I emailed Humax and they were not interested in helping me resolve the problem (I asked for an exchange or a refund)... Pretty disappointed I went with a Humax to be honest.
Just looked at their Facebook page and it appears plenty are whinging about the 4tune too...  :-[

Humax / Unable to tune GWN in WA
December 06, 2014, 10:03:21 AM
I just moved to regional WA.
I have my Humax 7500 plugged into the antenna and the TV connected to the humax.
The TV tunes and receives all channels no problems.
The Humax however won't see GWN.
I don't think it's a signal issue as the TV receives it without issue.

Am I missing something?

My display still randomly doesn't turn on after waking up, pretty random and turning it off and on seems to correct it.
Hopefully the next update will address it.
Rest of the functions seem to be working pretty well, running it in parallel to the TiVo until I'm convinced it can take over.

It's sitting on top of a tall boy in our bedroom, so optimum ventilation.

Sorry, bit late getting back..
It's been an interesting few days.
Yes, I exchanged the unit and received a new one without issue. This unit didn't have the HDMI or display issue, worked faultlessly for 2 hours until the fan kicked in and sounded like it had no bearings...  :-[
I also exchanged this unit, I have just received the third unit, have trialed for two days, the fan is near silent, the HDMI seems to be ok, but this morning coming out of standby the display remained off (everything else worked), cycling power with the remote fixed it. It's only done it once out of about 6 restarts. I can live with this if this is the only issue.
Seems I've had a bit of the bad run on these..

Bit more info, had a bit of time to play with it yesterday, appeared only the HDMI had no picture/sound (composite worked), so I did a return to factory defaults and it is working again (for now).
I did note this morning when it came out of standby the front display wasn't working, just cycled power from the remote and it came good...
Still not very stable, looks like I need to try and exchange it...

Well today it looks like it has bitten the dust, coming out of standby I have the front panel indications but no picture or sound. Power cycle didn't fix it.
Looks like I'll have to return it.  :-[

I was hoping an exchange wasn't required, but I'll trial over the weekend and exchange it on Monday if it continues to mess around..

Yes, I updated the Firmware the day I first installed it (Tuesday).

Last night I disabled the "power saving in standby" function to see if this fixed the issue and this morning I had the HDMI message on screen saying I couldn't display protected content and to use SCART or component cables.
Power cycling the rear switch has fixed all issues.

Not a good start after moving over from a TiVo that just did what it did reliably...
