Title: ICETV epg update EYETV (server returned error)
Post by: shane1982 on January 31, 2007, 07:06:08 PM
Hi,

I'm running EyeTV 2.3.3 (2467). TwinhanDTV Alpha Mac. OSX Tiger 10.4.8. I have an icetv subscription that is valid until 10/10/2007. I have setup my icetv account information in the eyetv preferences. it identifys the account as it gives me the "this account is active until 10/10/07" information. But this is where the problem starts...

in the same preference window for the program guide.. it says update failed (server returned error) ?!?!?

The account information is obviously correct.. im running the latest version of eyetv as far as i know. Any ideas will be appreciated, as i have attempted to contact icetv themselves (both through phone leaving a message for call back, and email) with no success or response from them.

If you require anymore information let me know..  btw.. the icetv widget does work but is not useful for recording shows etc..

Sounds like a problem on our side. Can you please click "update now" again?

I think the issue that may have caused this could be fixed now.

This sounds like you may not have a device setup under the PIMP section of the IceTV website.

More information on this can be found in our FAQ section, a direct link to the relevant one is http://www.icetv.com.au/support.php?faq_id=48 (http://www.icetv.com.au/support.php?faq_id=48).

Thankyou!. I added the device to PIMP as per your instructions. (i thought i had done this as it was already there.. ) didnt realize you had to actually click add then it would make a ID:0 thing.

thanks alot for your help.

Hate to say "me too" - but me too ! All was working well, and I noticed the program guide wasnt updating itself. Tried it manually (via preferences) and I get the (server returned error) message. :-( Are there any suggestions I can try - I've tried to use a new account, reboot system etc - no go.

Cheers

Update - just tried manually again just then  - and it worked ! Fast work guys............ :-)

Hello,

I have just re-installed my mac (mac mini ppc 1.4 Ghz , 1GB ram) to take it back to 10.4.8 as I was getting a lot of hangs when it was on 10.4.9. I have done a complete clean re-install of 10.4 and taken it to 10.4.8 via combo update.

Re-installed eyetv to 2.33 and went to update the program guide - and I get the error that is the subject of this thread. It would be nice to know what the error is as well !

What could be causing this ? This is a freshh install so I am a little puzzled. Will try a manual update later to see if this clears, but if I cant update the program guide then my icetv subscription is not very useful !

Cheers

I'm having this issue too having just renewed my expired account. Guide updates fail as do the Remote Schedule checks despite the account being correct and a message displayed "This IceTV account is active until 7/7/07".

I've emailed support - but something is definitely awry here.

Hi - I fixed my problem by going into the PIMP options on the Icetv website, deleteing my device an re-adding it. Then the EPG guide updated just fine !

Cheers.

zootman: that fixed the loading of the guide, but when I click on "Check Now" under Remote Scheduling, I get the "Your IceTV Account Information is invalid" message - the account is fine at the top of the preference pane, and displays "This IceTV account is active until...".

I'm still actually waiting for a response from support on the issue...

We have made some more changes on the server to stop this from happening, all should be good from now on.

This is just to document that I too am having problems with EyeTV 2.4.  Daniel needed to reset the EyeTV to device 0 to get the guide to work but I am still getting the message "The IceTV account information is invalid" when I try and check for remote scheduling.

Daniel is at a bit of a loss as to what the problem is and I think it would help if those who are using remote scheduling (PIMP) report as to whether or not it is still working for them and what version of EyeTV they are using.  My issues seemed to start about the time up updated to 2.4 although I am not absolutely sure.  2.4 is otherwise much more stable than 2.3.3

Problem solved with help from Danient (ICETV) and Elgato
Install EyeTV 2.33 (just open the DMG and drag the app to the applications folder), open up preferences, select your account, update TVguide, click check now in remote scheduling.  It should then work.
Reinstall 2.41 in the same way as 2.33 and everything should now work.

From the Elgato email:

This sounds similar to an issue we saw in the states where there

I am having the same problem, and a downgrade to 2.3.3 didn't help. It was working fine until about 2 days ago, so im not sure its specifically to do with 2.4. My subscription is valid until 1st Dec this year. Little frustrating.  :'(

It sounds like you have a free 1-day widget account. While in the past there was a bug that allowed the guide to be used in EyeTV using one of these accounts it has recently been fixed. To be able to use the guide within EyeTV you will need to have purchased a full 7-day account.

Hi,

I've having this trouble also - I've tried all the suggestions in this post, delete and reapply the device in Remote, downgrade to version 2.3.3 etc but nothing is fixing the problem. The widget works fine and my account is active.

Any other ideas?

The restrictions on how often the guide can be updated have recently changed.

They are now set to be once every hour for the channels list and also once every hour for the guide itself.

If you try again by going through the program guide screen, and then selecting the 'gear' icon at the top of the screen and then select "Update IceTV Guide" and it should then update the guide.

One thing that we have found is that when going into the preferences window it will do a channels list request so that when it tries to download the guide after that (using the Update now) button it will fail to download as it has been within the hour.

Great to hear you guys are working on it , but I tried what you suggested above and unfortunately it didn't work.  I waited a couple of hours and it still didn't work.  I then waited more than an hour again, and sniffed the connection this time.  Looks identical to my post above (except now it takes longer to complete for some reason).

Anyway, was there anything else that needs to be done to get this working?  Do I need to delete and re-add devices via the IceTV web pages?  Stop/start EyeTV before trying to download the guide?  Anything else?

One other thing to check is that your password does not have any special characters in it (for example @ or /) as the authentication system in EyeTV cannot handle that to get the guide itself.

My account has not been working for several weeks.

Same as everyone here - "Update failed due to server error"

Password has no special characters, tried removing and re-adding device in pimp etc etc

Tried everything listed in this thread but no luck. This began on Friday night and things started to disappear a channel at a time as the listings ran out. Now I have nothing. EyeTV tells me to run Setup Assistant which then tells me the account already exists. I am running 2.5.1 and Mac OS X Leopard but it was working perfectly until last Friday. Sounds like a server problem to me if everyone is getting the same error...

My programs also started to disappear channel by channel over the past few days.
I have tried a new user account, reverting back to the old version of EyeTV etc, but no luck.

The restrictions on how often the guide can be updated have recently changed.

They are now set to be once every hour for the channels list and also once every hour for the guide itself (these are two separate requests). There is also a limit on how often remote scheduling requests can be made, this is set to once every 15 minutes, any attempts within 15 minutes of the last successful request will return an error in EyeTV saying that there is a problem with the username or password (unfortunately EyeTV does not handle the actual error message correctly).

If you try again by going through the program guide screen, and then selecting the 'gear' icon at the top of the screen and then select “Update IceTV Guide” it should then update the guide (as long it has been over one hour since the last attempt).

One thing that we have found is that when going into the preferences window it will do a channels list request so that when it tries to download the guide after that (using the Update now) button it will fail to download as it has been within the hour.

There is also a new 'blacklisting' that could be affecting you, please see the post regarding an Important IceTV Service Announcement.

I am having the same issue as well with the IceTV Guide as well, it started either yesterday or Sunday.  I am using EyeTV for DTT Stick, EyeTV version 2.5.1 and Leopard.

Going through the Preferences of EyeTV states: "Update failed due to a server error" (happens either manually or allowing it to update automatically).

Opening the guide in EyeTV states: "The Program Guide has no data to display.  Please complete the Program Guide setup by running the EyeTV Setup Assistant."  I have tried that more than once, but still the guide does not update.  I have also tried the suggestion of updating manually through the gear icon, but that also does not work. (I have waited overnight to try and update again, so it should not be due to making too many requests).

According to EyeTV Preferences, my account is valid and does not expire until January.

Very unfortunate, I was getting a lot of use out of the program guide.  :(

I'm having the same issue as everyone else on this thread -
'IceTV Account information is invalid'.

I'm on Tiger OSX 10.4.10 and EyeTV 2.5.1. None of the suggested fixes worked for me.

Come on EyeTV guys - It's been broken for weeks now. If it's not fixed I won't be renewing my subscription. I was really happy with the IceTV service until now.

Sorry but this is not the case with this issue. I can not use the EyeTV application for days and then open the application and it has no data so it is not an update frequency issue. The service is just not working. Funny, I had only just paid for a twelve month subscription and now it looks like I won't get anything for my $99 except being told to check this over and over again. We can't all be having this issue because of a timed limit. If you have a complaints department that is my next stop for a refund because there has been no use from this subscription from three days after the subscription started. The trial worked perfectly for the full period. Colour me jaded. I am forced to use either Channel 4 for my guide or the web based guides but have no ability to record in the future which was one of the selling points for me on this subscription...

Also following on from the posts regarding time limits on how often certain requests can be made, it looks like these will be handled properly by EyeTV 2.5.2 when it is released and this should fix up a lot of issues that people have been having when updating the guide.

Has my IceTV account (psmillie) been blacklisted ?

When is EyeTV Version 2.5.2 due ?

I know this isn't going to help most people, but I finally got jack of waiting for a fix to the specific issue that seemed to be holding me up and I decided to transparently proxy just the requests to IceTV (my issue was that EyeTV seem to want to go direct for some of it's updates).  I posted the network captures of this a while ago.

Anyway, I transparently proxied the IceTV requests, and then noticed this:

1195801201.466    149 192.168.17.5 TCP_MISS/200 419 GET http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/webaccount.cgi? - DIRECT/202.125.163.43 text/xml
1195801201.513    257 192.168.8.140 TCP_MISS/200 776 POST http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/pimp/pimp_server - DIRECT/202.125.163.43 application/octet-stream
1195801201.821    223 192.168.17.5 TCP_MISS/200 617 GET http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/epg/webpimpdevices.cgi? - DIRECT/202.125.163.43 text/xml
1195801218.819  17032 192.168.8.140 TCP_MISS/200 794637 POST http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/pimp/pimp_server - DIRECT/202.125.163.43 application/octet-stream

192.168.17.5 requests are those that are proxied correctly and 192.168.8.140 are those that are not.  I swear those requests to /cgi-bin/pimp/pimp_server weren't in the network capture before!  Anyway, that's the offending requests that seem to break everything else.

Hopefully EyeTV 2.5.2 will have updated IceTV components that will proxy everything correctly (and whatever other networking dodginess that seems to be breaking things for people who aren't even using proxies).  I also hope this info is of some use to IceTV in tracking down what seems to be wrong on their end.

As for me, I'm crossing my fingers my (now working) installation of EyeTV stays that way... ;)

Well the beta version of EyeTV 2.5.2 fixed the epg update error - for me anyway. So far (it's only been 1 day) it has worked without a problem.
