Now that Skippa is an unsupported product and there will be no further firmware updates, what are your plans for your Skippa?
- Are you going to sign up the IceTV EPG service?
Are you going to sell your Skippa?
Are you planning to stick it in the cupboard and forget about it?
How many Skippa's actually made it into the "wild"?
I plan on continuing to use my SKIPPA. As I have many other IceTV enabled devices the incremental cost of using it is zero.
Ian
Binned. I'll rip out the drive and that will be the end of it but only after the ACCC gets back to me. I'm pretty sure what their answer will be so then i'll rip out the drive and bin the rest.
I only have the 1 Icetv device and i'm not paying an extra $500 over the so called 5 year life for that one device and as the the New Icetv is pretty much the old Icetv I won't deal with them again.
My plan is to remain on hold for the time being. I will await the results of the claim I lodged with PayPal. I have not set up a monthly subscription and am not using my Skippa at the moment. It's still plugged in and turned on, but isn't downloading a guide.
If PayPal gives me a full refund, I will throw my Skippa in a cupboard and forget about it. I will then decide what to buy as a replacement (probably Fetch). If my claim is refused, I'll consider my options then.

Gas667 - Please don't do that as some of us need the parts to repair out units. I would like to pick up your unit (without HDD) for spares - some of us did receive Skippa's but have hardware issues and of course there's now no warranty support

Far better (and more sensible) use than turning it into landfill.
I'm definitely using mine. I'd like another, with or without HDD. Overall I'm very happy with the unit and IceTV's service.
There are a number of people that would like to purchase unwanted Skippas, either for spares, or for additional recording capabilities. Personally I don't.
Does anyone have a price that they would pay or sell one for?
I'm sitting on the fence. I received my skippa and just received notice from PayPal they've decided in my favour. I might pay for the icetv while i will search for an alternate using the fta.
The other thing I'm debating with myself is how convenient it is and the Sunday paper I think is $2.80 a week and I only bought it for the guide. I don't like that it relies on ice and you can't program manual recordings.
I just finished setting up my new PVR9600 ($168 DSE special) and very happy with the look & feel of it, here's hoping for a reliable experience and ongoing f/w support from NAS Australia, the new distributor
Ready to put my Skippa on eBay I think, not sure of what price I should put on it yet
My Unit works well but I'm not happy to pay a monthly IceTV EPG subscription after having paid for the Skippa with a included Lifetime subscription for the IceTV EPG >:(
I intend using my Skippa, from what I have done so far its great.
Records everthing - flicks adds out everything as advertised.
I will subscribe to Ice TV when I need to for the Skippa and my Humax.
If any one does not want to subscribe to Ice TV and have working Skippa I am interested in another for my wife
Great unit
We will sign up the IceTV EPG service and keep using our Skippa, we are very happy with how the Skippa functions and the auto-scheduling via IceTV.

just missed out buying another. will keep looking
I'll be keeping mine. Love the functionality, mine's stable at FW604. There are some requested improvements which I'll put on the appropriate forum page. Prepared to pay the ongoing fee for the ongoing functionality.
My Paypal refund has hit my account, so I'm ready to sell my Skippa. I said right from the beginning that if Skippa required a monthly subscription, I wouldn't look twice at it. I have so many monthly deductions already, I don't need any more.
So, I'll clear out the few recordings on there, do a factory reset and pack it away in its original box (minus the HDMI cable which I've used elsewhere). If anyone wants to buy it off me, send me a PM with your best price. The highest price gets it. Don't forget that you will need to add postage on top of what you offer.

Where are you located so we can calculate the likely postage cost?

FMB,
Something to note...
Once recordings cleared, format HDD just in case and allow unit to reboot in order to do this (there are cached files on your HDD that need clearing) and then after that has been done you should do the factory reset, let the unit reboot and when initial screen comes up with the circle on it, unplug power immediately.
Don't let it boot further.
Reason for this is in initial factory reset state the unit will scan for TV Stations and other things on initial boot and saves that data before it gets to the "enter your ICETV credentials" screen. So unless the person you sell it to is in the same area as you, this will clearly not be helpful to them.
Just thought this might help that's all. To format HDD, it's under storage 3 down from your recordings folder.

Sorry, I have a moral objection to what your suggesting. Double dipping by getting a refund from Paypal and then flogging it off.

Yep, I have no morals at all. I'm using my refund to buy a replacement device. So, what to do with Skippa? I can't give it to charity. It has no value. There are people on here who are happy with their Skippa and have said they want another.
I'm curious, What would you do in my position?

Maybe wait for those who didn't even receive their Skippa to receive their refunds before potentially jeopardising their refunds.
Or offer yours for sale without mentioning refunds.

OK. Since - in your own words - it has no value - I'll offer you zero dollars ( Plus postage, of course) !!

I'll make it cost of postage plus $.05 :)
Let's clarify my position here. I received my Skippa. I recieved a full refund for perfectly valid reasons. I will not continue using my Skippa. I will spend almost the entire refund buying a Fetch TV. I won't end up any better off. There are several people have n here who did receive their Skippa and expressed interest in buying another. There are no New Skippa's for sale (atm).
I'm offering my Skippa to those people. I didn't say I was selling it at full price, but I will sell it for what I can get for it. I figure it's compensation for six months of pain and suffering.
If you wish to question my morals, go right ahead. I really couldn't care less. But if you do, you must also question the morals of those who received their Skippa and a full refund and now they're keeping it. As far as I'm concerned, that's just ripping off Paypal and more immoral than my actions.
So for those who want another Skippa, PM me your price. If not, get off your soapbox because I'm just not interested.

I'd like to know what can we do to get control over the Skippa firmware

Yes, that would be terrific if it could be achieved. I've now played around with my recently acquired Skippa, and so far I think it's a great little unit, EXCEPT for the very limited EPG "window". We use the EPG as our main program guide (we don't buy a paper guide in any shape or form) and like to browse it. Just having 4 channels on view at a time, and being unable to place them in the order we would like, is a real pain.
Nothing beats JustEPG (a Toppy TAP) in this regard, but if we have to have a time-line EPG, then at least be able to show 10 or more channels at the time. I'm also playing around with a Beyonwiz T2 (3 tuners) and I can at least have 10 or more channels showing on the one screen. Unfortunately, I've not yet been able to figure out a way to set the order in which they appear - even using Favourites still forces the LCN order.
I'm happy with my Skippa so far, it's a shame it's lost the advert skipping but I have another IceTV enabled recorder (Topfield 2400) so IF IceTV get back to me about supporting the EPG on Skippa I'll probably pay the $8 per month. Anyone know what's happening to the Humax 4Tune EPG which was being supplied by IceTV?
Cheers,
Karl

Karl - good news for you! - go to this location @ http://support.icetv.com.au/entries/97066117-How-to-update-the-software-from-a-USB-stick and follow the instructions to upgrade the Skippa Firmware to the latest version - stability and Ad Skipping will return to your Skippa
Let us know how you get on - but I think you will be happy with the outcome after the firmware upgrade

One IceTV subscription will cover your Skippa and your Topfield.
Thanks for the replies, I'll let you know how I go.

OK so I've only recorded one show and watched with Ad skipping and it worked sort of OK, didn't skip initially even though the adverts were shown on the timeline but about 1/3 way through it started working fine.

I suspect the "sort of" success you have been heving with Addskip would be the fact that Promos for shows are not considered Adds by the Skippa.
If you check the pogram again, you will probably find that the add sessions that didnt skip began with a promo.
If you had watched through the Promo it probably would have skipped automatically when the promo finished.
I have a 6 week old Skippa ITB for sale complete with manual & original packing, if anyone wants it for use or spare parts. It worked until my FREE LIFETIME subscription to ICE TV ceased to exist. I will sell to the highest offer plus postage. I live in Melbourne. If you are in the Melbourne metropolitan area I will provide free courier service. Otherwise you will have to pay the postage. If you are interested please email me with your bid.
