Title: What is the process for the upcoming Digital Retune?
Post by: Denno on June 02, 2014, 04:34:22 PM
Maybe I have missed something but can not seem to find anything from ICETV on the upcoming digital retune.
I am in the Illawarra region of NSW and the retune is scheduled for 10th June 2014 at 6am in our area.
What effect will it have on the ICETV scheduling for TV shows being recorded into the future?

I don't remember having to do anything with IceTV - but it was quite a while ago up here.
The PVR will need to be retuned - along with all the other TV receivers. The LCN doesn't change.

The retune usually has a period of a few weeks where both the old and new channel frequencies are broadcasting. So you should either be able to retune now, or will have a few weeks after June 10th before the old frequencies get switched off.

Depending on your recorder it may handle it all automatically. On Beyonwiz and Humax PVRs you can disable the Dynamic Channel Update but by default it is enabled, which will allow them to automatically update the channels to the new frequencies. As you view a channel from each network that network's channels get automatically updated to the new frequency.

If your recorder does not update the channels automatically you just need to do an auto tune, then 'Resend all recordings' from 'My Account > My Recorders' on the website.

Note: If you do an auto tune on a Topfield (though you shouldn't need to) you should 'clear services' first, and then after the auto tune you will need to re-enable IceTV and re-enter your IceTV account details on the Topfield - before resending all recordings.

If you are in an area where your recorder usually picks up 2 sets of channels, requiring manual effort to remove the weaker duplicates, you may be better off contacting IceTV support before doing anything - unless you know what you are doing.

Thanks Dave
I have a Topfield TRF-2400 which can cause issues with scheduled recordings around daylight saving times! Also in our area I get the Sydney and Local stations at good signal strength. Is there a guide for the process you described for this Topfield unit? Or should I just contact support if I get into trouble.

I found during the daylight saving changeover all my pre scheduled shows go out by an hour and the best way was to go into the menu and change them all manually rather than clearing and re sending etc seemed to cause more issues.
Thanks
Denno

All capitol cities have their channels on lower frequencies than regional areas. So if you prefer the Sydney channels you should set the region to Sydney in your account. Then do a service search in auto mode and (to prevent finding the regional channels) stop the search after the community channel (TVS) appears in the list - which is the last city channel found.

If you prefer your local channels then write down the DVBT channel number for each local TV network (check one channel from each TV network. e.g. Prime, WIN, SC10, ABC and SBS). You can get the DVBT channel number for each channel from the bottom of the Service List - just press OK while viewing any channel live to open the list.

That is the easiest way to deal with daylight saving if you only have a small number of schedules.
