Title: Slow performance/hangs
Post by: IanHamilton on August 30, 2012, 08:18:20 PM
For the past week, when I try to access my recordings on either the website or my iPhone, the response is very slow, hangs or times out. Anyone else had this problem

I mean of course the "myWeek" reservations. All other functions on the website and the iPhone work

Yep, same here. Slow as ^#$%^

It's an absolute joke atm. If it doesn't pick up soon I'll be cancelling. I thought it may be the firewall at work but the same at home with 100Mbit Optus Cable. Sometimes taking 2-3 minutes to load 'my week'

Cheers

Mick

I've actually had it time out on me three times tonight. Are they running the server through a dialup connection??

I just had it time out, too. Twice.

But to be expected when you look at this recent photo of the server:

Yeah, me too - not to mention that it is nearly mission impossible to attempt to change something

Me too... although it seems much better this evening.  :)

It's been really slow the past three or four weeks, and getting worse, until just now.

I will add my +1 here too.  I thought my android app was playing up, then when accessing via the web on the android phone, still didn't work, thought my phone network connection was playing up till I saw other web pages were fine, and tried on the PC and still had issues.

Still slow here - how about for others?

Still an absolute joke!

Just took me about 30 minutes to set up a few recordings for next week.

Hi mikeyjames

What web browser and operating system are you using?

The website has been fine for months. Some days I manage lots of recordings for a number of customers via their My Week and My Shows and I haven't seen any speed issues since early September 2012. It only takes me a couple of seconds to edit each show.

If you are having issues via a web browser then try clearing the browser's cache, or try another web browser, or another computer. If the problem is at home then try it at work or at a free wireless hotspot.

If you are having issues via a phone app then try resetting the app from the Settings menu, or try a different network. If using wireless then try 3G or 4G, or try a different wireless network. If using 3G or 4G then try using wireless.

Hi,
At work I use Windows XP with either ie8 or Firefox (not sure what the connection is but at a major hospital)
At Home I use Win 7 with either ie9 or firefox (Optus 100Mbit cable connection).

Ironically, tonight is the best it has been in a long time. The reason I checked the forum was to see if you've updated something.

Thanks

Mick

Hi again,

Well I spoke too soon, it's slow again.

Just figured out that if I do from "TV Guide" it's quick, if from "My Week" it's slow.

Hi,

I'm now at a friends home using a Telstra ADSL connection Win7 32 bit and same pattern:

Record from "My Week" = very slow to respond
Record from "TV Guide" = fine.

That means all of the following five me the same pattern:

Win7 64 bit and 32 bit with ie9 or Firefox from home with Optus Cable
Win XP 32 bit with ie8 and Firefox on a fast but unknown connection at work
Win7 32 bit with ie9 or Chrome from Telstra ADSL

Could it be that I have lots of favourites and key words set up???

Thanks

Mick

Hi Mick,

We're not seeing any system issues but perhaps it could be related to the number of favs, which we'll investigate. Can you quantify "slow"?

Hi Mike,

I have as many keywords as you, but mine are 'keyword recordings'. All of yours are 'keyword favourites'. I have seen lots of 'keyword favourites' cause unusual behaviour before.

I notice that 3 of your keywords are duplicated. Making the system search twice for the same 3 keywords can't help.

Another keyword that can cause slow behaviour is your 'genre:movie' keyword. When there are lots of movies in the guide it could be even slower.

- Try removing the duplicate keywords.
- Then replace 'title:star title:Trek series:star series:trek' with "star trek" - note the double quotes.
- If it is still slow, remove the genre:movie keyword and see if that helps.

You could also replace these 2 keywords:
desc:Attenborough
title:Attenborough's

With the following single keyword:
Attenborough

Which would give the same results.

Remove the genre:movie keyword last, if the other changes don't help, as obviously you'd want to keep the movie keyword.

Hi Dave,

Appreciate the help. When I have a chance I'll do as suggested and get back to you.

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Well, I did a big cleanup - can't believe the rubbish I had saved as keyword/favourites etc over the past couple of years.

Anyway, with no keywords it's lightning fast. A little disappointed with the fact that all I have to do is place one keyword/favourite like "documentary" and it slows considerably.

I can live with it now as definitely better than before.

Thanks

Mick
