I have been experiencing a problem recently where I have scheduled recordings on the IceTV website and the recordings have not been set in Win7. The recording icon on the website indicates that the recording has been scheduled (solid red dot) however it doesn't show up in Win7 list of scheduled recordings. I haven't noticed under what circumstances this happens but I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same experience?
Cheers
Dan
Yep, you're not alone. Happens regularly.
Hi guys,
I've just figured out the issue and will work on a fix to the current version today.
Regards,
Luke
3.0.0.20 is now being tested internally and should be a BETA release some time tomorrow.
Some of the features in the new version :-
- Channels, Epg and Timers are downloaded together to eliminate any differences between them
- Data downloads occur at least every 15 minutes
- Scheduling status will be uploaded within a minute of a change within 7MC
- Removed unused options from the UI
- GZip encoding is enabled on all data between the application and IceTV server
Cheers
Luke
Thanks for your work on this. Looking forward to trying it out.
Cheers
Dan
Almost done, just including a "submit problem" option so you can automatically create a support ticket with the Interactive application log attached.
Same issue here... first time I've had any problem since I started using ICE TV years ago. Where can we get this beta version ASAP?
The development is done, including the ability to generate a support ticket with attached logfile from the application. Just testing, testing , testing... The beta WILL be released over the weekend..
Is there any chance I can get my hands on the beta when it's released?
Of course, I'll post a download link in this thread.

That's great. Thanks!
Any word on how the update is coming along?
I have a pretty functional BETA working at the moment...
My team is concerned that this version will significantly impact the amount of traffic from our server by about 65MB per day per user. :( Across all of our Media Center users, this equates to some pretty big numbers ... we need to solve this particular issue ASAP before releasing the BETA.
Apologies for the delay.
You need to sort out the fact we've been without a working scheduler since last week and as a paying customer this is unacceptable.

Did you create a support ticket?
As an update, I have been running the BETA with success in a "changes only" configuration which, along with compressed data transfers, will result in a reduction of data usage.
This evening I should be in a position to package the BETA and create the installer for release via this thread.. I intend to run the BETA for two weeks, taking any feedback, before making it the official release.
Sounds good. I'm happy to try the beta and provide feedback.

Yes.... ticket was logged last week.

UPDATE: I think it just keeps posting these messages until the 15 minutes has passed before it can query the server again as it updated the epg and scheduler after 15 minutes.
No that's what it should be doing, checking for locally scheduled shows every minute and seeing if it needs to send up any updates. I should turn the logging down a tad though.
The download sync happens every 15 mins, but timer updates can be sent back as quickly as every minute now.
You will need to manually hit the Sync Now button if you see any "unknown" entries in your EPG. This is a consequence of the net change issue I mentioned in a previous post, which I am busily working on. Media Center seems to only like an all-or-nothing approach. :/
Hi Luke,

Pretty good so far! I had one small glitch: had a power cut one night which also took out the internet connection. The power came back and I started the HTPC, but the internet was down for a further day or so (thanks Telstra!). When the 'net was back up, Interactive didn't start talking to the server, just had the message "not authorised" (not 100% sure of the wording). Clicking "login" got things starting again, and it's now ok. I'm not sure if this is a bug, or it Interactive is supposed to just give up after a while. Anyway, thought I'd pass this on to you.
Apart from that, great work!
Steve.
Just checked my recordings and noticed that the IceTV website indicates that So You Think You Can Dance is scheduled to record tomorrow night however the recording is not scheduled in Win 7 MC. I have this set up as a series recording. This was the same problem as the previous version. Any ideas?
Considering going back to the previous version. 3 days running I have had different channels lose all their guide information and all the recordings scheduled for that channel. These werent reflected on the website. Not sure if that's better or worse than recordings not being scheduled :o
Thanks for the feedback.
We've been able to reproduce some scenarios which can occur and result in the behavior you experienced. I'm working on 3.0.0.22 to address these issues (infact they are more work-arounds to the way Media Center handles guide loading :/).
By all means, if the old version is better for you, re-installing will be fine.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Thanks Luke. Looking forward to an update.
Cheers
Dan
We've made a change to the way that incremental guide updates are provided to Win7 Interactive, which should solve the issue. This was a server side change only at this stage.
We believe the issue is now resolved.
3.0.0.22 BETA will be released soon which provides event accurate recordings. This means that the start and end times for a program will be automatically updated based on what's in the broadcast stream. :)
Hi Luke,
I also wanted to mention that the last BETA you released doesn't appear to start in the tray. Whenever I boot my computer and log in I get the full interface open on the desktop.

To use this feature, you will need to right click a channel in the EPG and select "Edit Channel" -> "Edit Listings" -> "Enable inband guide" -> "Save". The next beta will do this automatically.
* logging is less verbose / more readable to the user
We're now working on automatic channel mapping, allowing IceTV to work "out of the box" and I'll take a look at why some of the startup settings are not being honoured.

Hi Luke. Can you please explain, in more detail, the above feature? I'm not clear on what the purpose of it is. I also thought that if I enable the inband guide that I'll no longer get the IceTV data?

I thought that IceTV did automatically map the channels? I seem to remember that it did for me as long as when I install the program I run an EPG update before I load Media Center.
Cheers,
Dan
Dan,
It does for some if the channel callsign matches but there are some regions where this is not the case and the user is required to "Edit Channel" and "Edit Listings" to select the appropriate IceTV channel listings. There are also some areas of Australia that straddle two regions and so we are also looking into accommodating custom channel lists based on what your PVR scans. Essentially, we will obtain the scanned channels list, and DVB triplets and map that to our listings.

Hi Luke, Are you able to explain this a bit more. I'm not exactly sure what this feature means. Also, I thought that enabling the inband guide would disable the IceTV data?
Also, following your instructions I have no option to "Enable inband guide". I only have "Show no listings for this channel".
Any help with this would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Dan
Dan,
We haven't nailed this feature 100% but the idea is that by selecting "enable inband" in the channel settings we allow the present/following signal to adjust the IceTV guide listing times on-the-fly, but not the synopsis or other metadata as ours is superior to the inband meta data.
The known issues for this option, as you have discovered, are that the "enable inband" option may not be present. If you watch that particular channel for a bit then go back later and check the channel settings again it may appear. We are working on this issue for the next release.
Hope this helps.
Thanks Luke,
Does this mean that if I enable inband that IceTV will override the padding settings set within media center? Currently I set MC7 to start 10min before and finish 15min after. If two shows are scheduled on the same channel then I go in and manually set the hard padding on the first show to force MC7 to use two tuners.
Will the new feature in IceTV override these settings? Sorry about all the questions but I appeciate your help!
Cheers
Dan
PS Your suggestion for enabling inband worked fine.
Dan,
Sort of. What it means is that the start/end times will match more precisely the actual start/end times of the broadcast and thus should result in only minimal padding required at the end of the show. In other countries the channels are required to stick to their published schedule but here in Australia there are no such rules and thus the Networks tend to play with the times so as to keep people watching their channel, or to shoehorn in more ads..
The hardest bit for us is that MC has it's own rules as to how to merge guide listings with the inband guide and this is what I'm trying to govern in the new Beta. So what might happen in the Beta is that if a show's title differs significantly between our listing and the inband guide listing then MC will take the inband listing rather than just adjust the start/end times of ours.
I've had some success in my current development version getting around this, and consequently have been able to merge the full inband schedule with ours with good results.
Hi Luke. The feature sounds really good if the TV stations inband guides are accurate as far as start and end times go. Would it be easier to just find a way to set hard padding as default on all recordings set by the IceTV software? That way MC7 would be forced to use two tuners where possible.
The only times where I've ever missed the end of a TV show is when I've had two shows on the same channel recording one after the other and forgot to set hard padding manually and deleted that second recorded show before checking if it had the end of the first show at the start of the file. Having IceTV automatically set the hard padding for me would save this from happening.
If IceTV follows the start/end times perfectly would this force hard padding or at least ensure that when two shows record on the one channel back-to-back that the enitre show is contained within the one file?
Cheers
Dan
Hi Dan,
This is a separate issue.
We are first trying to address to need for any padding, then we will address the hard padding / back-to-back shows issue. These aren't our issues per say, but they effect the experience, which in turn becomes our issue.
After some consideration, I will work on the hard padding / back-to-back recordings as a matter of priority.
Luke,
Have you had any feedback on the beta?
I've had two instances that recordings start failing to schedule and I've restarted interactive and it all came good.
Dave.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the feedback.
Assuming this is 3.0.0.23, did this occur as a result of operating Interactive normally, or did you attempt to try out the feature where we use the present/following signal from the inband guide ("enable inband")?
Luke, I was using it normally, without enabling inband at that time.
I have only just enabled inband today. I'll see what difference this makes to my recordings. Should I now stop setting hard padding for each recording?
Dace.
Dave,
It still heavily depends on the networks whether they adhere to their most recent start/stop times. I've seen the present/following times out by 2 minutes.
I discussed the padding issues with the dev team again today and we reached a consensus that we will provide a new "Padding" section in the next release. The section will contain the following options:
(1) Smart padding - will use the present/following signal + 2 minutes of hard padding
(2) Fixed amount of pre-padding (soft or hard)
(3) Fixed amount of post-padding (soft or hard)
Luke
Sounds like a good plan Luke.
Does it make sense to allow option 1 (Smart Padding) with a configurable amount of padding maybe beyond the 2 minutes? That way it's then my problem if I set it for 2 and it is out by 3?
Just a thought.
Dave.

Hi Luke,
I had a recording fail to schedule (with the exclamation mark in the guide on the IceTV website) with the latest BETA. This is without enabling the inband option. Logging onto the IceTV website and re-sending all recordings to MC7 fixed the problem but it's not an ideal solution. Does interactive ever attempt to re-schedule failed schedules?
Dan.
Hi Guys,
I'll be posting an update later today for 3.0.0.24 -
* Removed beta features for now (seems unstable)
* Added padding options
* Fixed some scheduling problems
Stay tuned.
Looks great Luke.
Will the new Beta include the inband features in the current Beta?
Dave.
Unfortunately I have to disable that feature as it's not 100% and there are situations where it can cause problems. We can't seem to get at the underlying program merging rules built-in to MC so it's something for which I'll have to find an alternative solution.
I still have to look at the startup options, and attachment size issues with the problem report feature.
Have you had any issues with the inband start/end times applying to our guide?
My bigest issue is the sync of the time on my PC. It seems I was a few minutes different to that of the inband guide.
I did have an issue last night at midnight a recording should have started but didn't. I am suspicious that my PC was having issues though.
I also had another issue today that Nine news (Melb) at 6:00pm Thursday failed to schedule and I had to request it be rescheduled via the web interface.
I am looking forward to the option of Hard Padding though in the next Beta.
Dave.

Great, let me know if there's anything else required for version 3, or any issues you experience, as I would like to feature freeze and keep going with version 4 (MC plugin).
Luke
I'll let you know if there's any issues.
I'd love to see the MC Plugin sooner than adding features to the version 3 of interactive. ;)

Hi Luke,
The pre-padding does not work. The post padding is really good with any show I've scheduled being set to record with 20 minutes post padding (without the where possible). The pre-padding is now broken. I've set my shows to 10 minutes pre-padding and they only start right on the show start time.
I've tried two ways. Leaving IceTV set to soft-padding 10 min and hard-padding 10min. Neither of these options worked.
Dan
Cheers Dan, everything else OK?
Yep, I think everything else is working. None of my recordings have finished yet but I've checked their settings in MC7 and they're all set to hard-padding 20min which is what I set in the IceTV app. I'll post again if there are any probs once recordings are done.
The hard-padding is a really great feature. Once the pre-hard-padding is working this will make IceTV the perfect app for me.
Channel logos would be great but I'm more than happy to wait until ver 4. :)
Luke, just an update. I just discovered that the pre-hard-padding is actually setting the show to record 10min after the start time rather than 10 min before.
Also, start-up to sys tray setting is not being honoured. The setting works if I start the app as administrator then change the settings. No, I was wrong this didn't work either.
Cheers
Dan
This should now be fixed, please try download & install again.
Assuming no other issues, this version should be released this afternoon.

Luke,
I get a HTTP 403 when trying to download the Beta.
Dave.
Same here cant downloaded beta. I assume it's been stopped till the next beta is available.
I am using the 3.23 beta and do like the time from the stream but as you said there are problems with it.
For example the Nine News in Melbourne on this Sunday says "Sunday News" Or something similar not that I'll be watching as it's some holiday that day:).
And another I noticed was that if a show finishes from the network time earlier than your time and the next show has not yet updated its time then it adds a very short show in between using the Ice guide details.
Hopefully the next beta fixes that. (yes I know network time wont be used for now)
Kevin

No worries, I'll get a fix out this week. Thanks for the feedback.
Luke,
I'm away from home at the moment but I just looked at the web interface to check my recordings and there appears to be a lot that failed. I'm currently running the 3.24 beta.
Of greater concern is that the iPhone interactive app shows all of the shows are scheduled successfully. I would expect it to show them with the yellow triangle warning instead.
I've just resent all the recordings and we'll see if they schedule OK. Otherwise I'm stuffed.
Dave.
I made sure your box received the full EPG on it's next cycle, and resent all the timers again. Looks ok except for some tuner conflicts.
Thanks for the feedback.
I'll look into why this issue occurred.
Hi,
I've also been having trouble with programs not recording. I did not use any of the beta versions but updated Interactive pretty much when it was available. Am using MC on Win7 64.
The first upgrade (that affected things) I made 3 or 4 days ago (I think to version 3.0.0.23 but could have been 22), no programs recorded on channel 9 and one other (I think it was 10). It came up with the yellow exclamation mark in the IceTV Guide web site "series recording failed" and on the MCTV there was no EPG data for Channel 9 or 10. But all other channels were ok.
Now with the upgrade to 3.0.0.24 (done this morning) I have this issue with ALL channels/all recordings.
In both instances, I have asked Interactive to reload the EPG, re-sync, as well as using the "resend all recordings" link on the web site. I also restarted Media Centre, Interactive and the entire PC, several times, but to no avail.
With V23 I also went through the sequence of changing the channel listings as suggested here:
Quote from: Luke at IceTV on December 30, 2011, 03:09:34 PM
Hi Joe,
Can you right click the channel, then select "Edit Channel > Edit Listings" and re-select the channel name with "-IceTV" on the end (even if MC says it's already selected). If you make the selection and MC prompts you to "Merge channel xx with channel yy" or "Copy listings from channel xx to channel yy" then choose the "Copy Listings" option. If the channel name with "-IceTV" on the end isn't in the list, select the non-IceTV channel, Save, then go back and select the channel again with "-IceTV" on the end.
Cheers,
Luke
But that did not make any difference (except that I did get the channel listing ok when I selected the non "-IceTV" channel).
I'm happy to help in trying to track the problem down, but when I'm not at home (eg now, I'm in the office), I need a reliable recorder. Hence, can I download a prior version of Interactive, which does not experience this issue? Is there a repository of older versions somewhere?
I've used IceTV successfully for a couple of years, but have only now signed up to this forum.
Thanks for the suggestions in this thread so far.
Cheers
Wolfgang

Cheers
Wolfgang
Sure, you can grab version 3.0.0.16 from here:

Lovely, thank you very much Luke.
Version 3.0.0.25 beta is available with the following changes:
* Improved handling of EPG updates
* Improved handling of startup options
* Improved the way network outages are handled
* Maximum logfile size has been reduced to 2MB so it is not truncated when submitted to our support system
* Log viewer displays log entries from the beginning of the logfile, rather than from when the application started

Hi Luke. The start in sys tray is still not working. The setting only persisted for one reboot. I'm not sure if it means anything but when I change the padding settings and press apply the log says Enabling application autostart.
Cheers

I agree with Dan about it not starting in the sys tray after a reboot.
The EPG now populates successfully for all channels again for me. Thank you.
But it still does not schedule ANY of my recordings. I don't know if this helps, but the log file has the following info:
...
Info The EPG loaded successfully
Info Downloaded 16 Tasks
Info Processing 32 timers;
Warn Exception System.NullReferenceException - Object reference not set to an instance of an object
Warn Exception System.NullReferenceException - Object reference not set to an instance of an object
Info Task 123xxxxxxxxxxxxx deferred until next sync
...
and it repeats the last 3 lines 32 times (with different task numbers).
Cheers

Yes, indeed I experienced similar errors on one of our test boxes, which I'll look into today.
Thanks for the feedback.
I've made a small fix to 3.0.0.25, so please download again and install.
Have a great New Year!
Cheers,
Luke :)

Happy New Year and thanks for the quick turn around. I had reloaded V16 and all was working fine again. I've now downloaded the "new" V25 again and installed that. And it all seems to work great, thank you.
I haven't been able to reboot the PC (doing other tasks), so haven't tested the open to sys tray issue.
But the EPG populates fine, all my schedules are set correctly and the manual padding seems to work well also.
Great work
Cheers
Wolfgang
Hi guys,
I just wanted to see if you are happy that the latest version (3.0.0.25) has addressed any recording issues you may have had?
Cheers,
Luke

Hi Luke,
The recording padding is great and I haven't had any errors with scheduling.
This morning when I switched on the computer the app didn't start in the tray.
I'm loving the hard-padding!
Cheers,
Dan

Luke,
I haven't seen any issues with the latest release.
All looks good from me.

Hi Luke,
All still working very well for me too. Thank you.
I've forgot to reboot the system since and test the tray start issue, as my system just goes into sleep mode when not in use.
Cheers
Wolfgang
Mine gets stuck on the splash screen. Have to force close every time :(

Luke,
I've now rebooted the PC and Interactive sometimes does not start in the sys tray. Here is what I did:
PC/Interactive/MC have been running for over a week, just in sleep mode in between
Interactive | Startup | Start in Sys Tray option is NOT ticked
I tick it and "apply"
Generates two log entries:
- Enabling application auto-start
- Not using a proxy
(I did not make any changes in the proxy section and do not use a proxy. Not sure why it is logging that then?)
Restart PC
Interactive starts properly in sys tray
Checked Interactive | Startup | Start in Sys Tray option, which is still ticked
restart PC just to check
Interactive starts open on the screen, rather than in sys tray
Interactive | Startup | Start in Sys Tray option is NOT ticked. Seems to have unticked ITSELF.
When I tick it and press apply, I get the same two log entries as before.
stopped testing ???
cheers
Wolfgang

Please send me your logfile: c:\ProgramData\IceTV\Interactive\3.0\ice.log
Thanks.

My apologies. It stays on the splash screen for a few minutes then works as normal.

Ahhh, the reason for the delay could have been that your logfile was rather large and the latest versions read the logfile and display it in the log viewer so that you can see previous log entries. The new versions also recycle the logfile around 2MB now (previous versions were 5MB) so the loading doesn't take too long. I'll think of a better/faster way to do this..
Cheers.
