How did you pay for the service.  Some are having success claiming for subscriptions paid through PayPal.

Have a look in the Skippa General gorum.  There is a thread there.

I probably paid with my Amex...  What do you mean? They're getting a refund? Or a continuation of their lifetime deal (ie new service, no charge)?

Nice, thanks a for the input.

I too on the one hand am a bit  >:( but I also dearly love the service, and don't think the price is that unreasonable.

Thanks for the thoughts.

What I basically want to know is this: yonks ago, I bought the Humax lifetime deal... I want to know if legally that should continue to be honoured or not.

ie. death of their company == lifetime deal death.

General Discussions / No response to website questions

I have, over the last week or so, logged two "tickets"  via the website, with no response.

Nobody is answering the phones either.

What am I missing?

The folder issue should also be resolvable by doing the following:
- Delete all affected *current series recordings from the website.
- Wait 20 minutes with the Humax turned on.
- Recreate all of your series recordings (I did it from the website but from the Humax should work).

Thanks Dave.  This has worked for me, albeit fiddly.  I see the trick too -- nothing was known as a series, and hence wasn't flagged as something to be stored in folders.

But honestly, you'd think that is what resending all the recordings from the website would do :/

Was attempting to use the Android client to do all this work too, but even though it would accept selections of "first and repeats", and prefer high def, once saved, and you'd go back in there, they were forgotten/ignored.

I ended up having to use m.icetv :(

If you are going to back up your recordings so that you can format the HDD and then return your recordings to the Humax HDD you should use an FTP client on your computer (not a USB drive plugged into the Humax).

Thanks for this dave.  Is this a confirmation that this is the only action I can take to fix the folder issue?  Or is this another Humax "give it a go and see, we're not sure"?

Yeh but easy to back up no?

I wouldn't call it easy.  I certainly wouldn't call it hard, but it ain't easy either.  More like, "incredibly inconvenient."

Try formatting the HDD. I have not done this yet but the HDD will still have the old structure onit. Start with a clean slate

Clean slate excluding all my existing recordings :-(

The 'not saving series recordings in folders' issue is one reason we recommend resetting to factory defaults and then resending all recordings from your IceTV account.

Please see this knowledgebase article:
http://support.icetv.com.au/entries/21690712-recommended-firmware-update-steps

So, it would seem my padding issues are fixed, but I have the folder issue now.

I have done a factory reset prior. I've also deleted folders in the hope the box was maybe holding some metadata against them, to no avail :-(

Anyway I was in contact with Humax and have been given an RA and have returned it today to ICETV.. I will buy another Topfield 2400 as I know they work, the Humax seemed like a real bargain but, like you, I don't need to be spending my free time trying to help them fix their product which currently doesn't work.

Hrm, I wonder if I do that, if I lose my lifetime Ice membership, which is the only reason I bought into all this -- the package deal Ice did...

If willing people can populate the above scenarios with their test results we will have a more detailed understanding of the issue and whether there is in fact a consistent pattern related to the recording initiation method.

Or, the manufacturer can do their own work that we pay them to do by buying the units, and subscribing to IceTV... though I want a resolution to this, I fail to see how it's our problem to gather test results.

I bought the box to free up my time, not to suck up more of it!

And anyway, the last statement from Ice (which seems likes eons ago now) was that they pretty much knew what it was, and were working on fixing it...

I was explaining how the situation could arise, not condoning it!

Understood... it just didn't necessarily read that way.

I'm a Beyonwiz beta tester, and I've given a good bit of time to helping them improve their product.

I wish I'd know this before buying this pile of junk.

Not only is padding broken, but it isn't filing series recodings into folders anymore, randomly.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.  ARGH!

The whole point of this box is to "set and forget", and all it needs lately is the opposite -- constant mothering.

I'm even more annoyed now -- missed the Supernatural season finale last night... those magic, last 5 minutes.

ARGH!

IceTV!  Wtf is going on?  Why have things fallen quiet?

As I noted before in this topic, Humax doesn't have access to DTV-B broadcasts in Korea. While I agree that Humax probably should have done more testing before release, I think that's true, too, of both Topfield and Beyonwiz, but it's not simple for them to test under actual broadcast conditions in Australia.

Erm, so?  If you sell a product in a country that is supported... support it!  You can't just say, sell a phone in a country with the reasoning, "Well, we think it kinda might maybe sorta work".

  • "Instant on" standby. ...  Humax's PSS OFF is probably something like this, but just how good they've been at cutting the power consumption is unclear. Does the HDD keep running in this mode? If it does, there's ~10W straight off!

Out of the box (I haven't played with modes), the Humax definately spins down the disk.  When I hit power on the remote, I definately hear it spin up/unlock.
