SKIPPA / Re: Ability to set the place in the playback
October 02, 2015, 08:24:04 AM
They have a feature to do it, not at my tv to test though..

For memory push the green button and it brings up the timeline, from there use the arrow keys and a little red cursor should move, bit ok and it will jump there. Occasionally I have had issues getting the cursor to show above the progress cursor but it is there.

See how you go, will test later to check I got the right key.

Seems the Skippa server doesn't support the Browse command so VLC can't find anything..

Have made a post on the VLC forums so will see what I can figure out

So turns out there is something different between the exe and the zip.. Zip version starts and can see the Skippa in UPNP devices but it doesn't find anything inside there..

Will keep investigating

Not unexpected I guess.. Would be handy though if it could go into a low power state up until the next event happens (provided in that low power state it keeps checking in with the server for last minute recordings)

Will be interested to see your results

Sounds about right, although I would hope if it wasn't streaming, recording or processing ads on a recorded file it would go into a lower power mode again.. Be hard to prove either way though.. Unless someone has a power meter they can plug the skippa into :)

Ahhhhhh..
I did read some rumblings about that but most of the threads I saw had people that got it working.. So assumed it was working again..

It's a shame VLC seems to have issues like that from time to time.. I tried several years ago to setup a device like the skippa to record and stream around our share house.. I could get a single tuner to work ok.. but after that vlc just had some issues that made it impossible :( Gave up and now I am glad skippa has come along :D Fingers crossed the live tv part comes eventually to complete it :p

Right will take a look at the betas / an old version and see if I can make that work and report back!

Thanks for the info :)

Edit: vlc-3.0.0-git-20151001-0402-win64.exe no good on my windows 8 laptop crashes before it starts with a command line error

SKIPPA / DLNA Streaming
October 01, 2015, 10:32:30 PM
So thanks to Warkus I got something to stream off the Skippa using Kodi (xbmc) however it is a bit overkill for what I am trying to do..

I was hoping that I would be able to use VLC because I have it installed on almost everything (and because it plays almost everything) but sadly I can't get it to appear in the UPNP part of the library :(

I had a look at the properties in windows of the Skippa and noticed it had a url:
http://<skippaiphere>:54321/mnt/usb1/DLNA/html/index.html

But sadly this loads a blank page, so maybe that is why VLC can't find anything..?

Anybody had any success with VLC or something similar?

Mine is silent but I think you are the second person to mention a noise..
Maybe it is just sitting funny.. Maybe throw a rubber mat or some paper towel under it and see if it sits down..

And yes you can copy files off the skippa remotely or stream things (I haven't tried the latter yet)

In a future update, hopefully you can stream live tv too not just recordings :)

Yup so was mine, the latest one was the second update / third firmware my device has had..

You can check in the menu, might be worth taking a look although I would hope by now it had done the extra update..

Although depending on when you first set yours up, it might have jumped straight over the first update I got..

Yeah when I typed it in for the 5th time (I failed multiple times at setting a static IP) I did contemplate plugging in a keyboard to see what would happen..

Didn't like the chances of my wireless ones working though so didn't bother..

Regarding number 3 have you got the latest firmware version (1.1.10579)?
Mine didn't auto grab it as early as it could of so I manually checked and grabbed it.

My skippa does have the same red (R) or yellow (SR) for recording and series recording in the info box and in the guide (both on the actual time slot and in the info box of the guide)

I know there was more info added to the guide in the last update so not sure if that was one of the changes..

And for number 2 if you go to the my recordings page the ones that are currently recording have the little red (R) on them if still recording.. Not sure if that is quite what you want in a current recordings list but that might be enough?

SKIPPA / Re: Failed recordings
October 01, 2015, 08:50:10 PM
Yeah I have noticed that too..
I have received quite a few emails for failed recordings but they aren't on the skippa..

I haven't figured out if it's because the skippa never knew about the recordings or I think I have had a couple report an issue days before the actual recording then record ok on the day (I think.. I am having trouble remembering what I have and haven't scheduled now :p )

Nah it has only happened twice in a week and a restart is enough to fix it. So haven't done anything as drastic as a full reset..

(My wifi password is far too long to type with the remote :p )

Have pulled the plug a couple of times to reset it but probably not long enough to completely reset the memory..
Anyway happy to see how it goes a bit longer, next time I might leave the plug out a little longer :)

SKIPPA / Re: Scheduling Series Recording
October 01, 2015, 08:34:35 PM
Yeah we set a couple on the phone and web but they were a bit slow to sync and the windows phone app has a few quirks, so we thought it would be more reliable on the skippa itself but not so much so far..

The skippa must have done something though, I just got a failed recording email..

QuoteChannel with the id (1675) is not found in STB

Oh well hopefully an update will fix it soon

Nice! Will give it a crack later :)

Edit: That does indeed work well :) Bit overkill for what I need to do but I haven't got anything else working yet
