Title: Nuke you 7100+ to make it a 7170
Post by: IanL-S on April 30, 2012, 05:24:33 PM
Toppro have released firmware that changes a 7100+ into a 7170. You end up with older firmware (May 2011 rather than Feb 2012), IR ('intelligent recording') but no IceTV. The process cannot be reversed.

Not sure why anyone would want to do this. There are TAPs that produce far better outcomes than IR while retaining the ability to use IceTV at a later stage.

UPDATE: It appears that some 7170s had the system ID for the 7100+; all this firmware does is change the system ID (and it will only do so if the May 2011 7170 firmware is installed).

Has anyone with a 7170 (that has the same system ID as the 7100+) been able to install 7100+ firmware to add IceTV support?

I imagine that only the first batch of 7170s would have had the 7100+ system ID
