Ok, so I recently added Vista SP1, and swapped an Nvidia 8500 card for and ATi 3450 (because it had HDCP).

Now my Media Center (Q6600, 2GB RAM Shuttle D'VO) runs like a dog, the discs are always churning and I can only reach 13 channels (and Channel 7 doesn't work).

I've reinstalled ATi drivers and ICE, but surely ICE shouldn't be using up 300MB of RAM all the time??

I don't know why Channel 7 has gone juddery - I used to be able receive several versions of each channel (lower North Shore, Sydney) now I get a total of 13.

I so utterly hate Media Center. Any help? Please?

Is this because I turned off that service which wouldn't update Vista's MediaCenter which originally screwed IceTV up? I can't find reference to that since the 'official' Vista IceTV patch appeared.

I can download it manually. After three days Vista tells me the Guide is old and asks would I like to download manually. In the new Iceuide set up I told it to download everyday. It works fine otherwise but this is annoying - just got back from 3 weeks away and only the first week of stuff recorded.

Grrr.

Any ideas?

Windows Media Center / So it begins...
February 26, 2007, 08:20:03 PM
Vista has been stable for a while now - way more than 2005 MCE.

But now I've come home and found SBS isn't working. In the Edit Channels there are several listings for SBS - but all of them say no signal. The main one jumped from channel 3 to 8.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The guide listing is there.

I'm sick of not being able to rely on Media Center.

Windows Media Center / Vista and video

Another query...

The Nvidia drivers for Vista (97.46) don't have an option for TV setting adjustments. As such you can't set resolution to 720p.

Instead, it picks up my Acer 42in LCD TV's native13 x 7 resolution. I always thought I'd prefer this because there's no overscan. But panning shots in TV and video judder noticeably.

It's a new test TV so I'm not sure if it's a bad panel. Is this something that dodgy vdeo drivers would cause. I've Nvidia 6600 with a DVI to HDMI cable.

Anyone?

Windows Media Center / The nightmare that is Vista

If anyone can shed some light on the following I will weep with joy...

I move to a new house. I finally upgrade to Vista Ultimate (full retail version). I scan for channels and pick up two that work properly - the rest are stuttery and awful. IceGuide works fine.

The problem is the antennae.

Man comes round and fixes antennae - it works - my set top box has a full set of channels. My Media Center, however, scans and finds no channels.

Despite this, in the Edit Channels dialogue all of the old channels are still there and now they all work - including the HD channels. Brilliant. I link each channel to the Guide channels. This seems to work.

I press guide. It says there is no guide set up.

Running the 'set up Guide' process tells me there's no Australian provider.

I run Iceguide4MCE.exe.

This does not work.

I stumble accross the fix in one of these threads - leaving the iceguide4mce.exe wizard open while clicking back on the Postcode page and it works. I cancel scanning for channels because I have working ones already there. Big mistake. All my nice new guide configuration is gone. Also, my Live TV access to all my channels is gone. Repeating this process doesn't work. In fact, now Media Center is randomly scrolling around as though I've sat on the remote. I shut it down and go to bed.

Now, no matter what I do I can't get Vista's Media Center to recognise Ice anymore. Is there a way of totally resetting all the TV setups that you've done in the past? Something pretty horrible has happened and I point blank refuse to reinstall Vista again (doing that every 2 months on MCE 2005 was the bane of my life). I just want a bloody Media Center that works and doesn't require surgery dozens of times a year. Can anyone help, please?
