Humax / Re: Issues with Program Guide?
April 22, 2012, 08:21:02 PM
I'm thinking about testing the FTA guide instead to see how that works...

At this point the ICETV guide (while in theory it's awesome) seems to miss as many shows as it manages to record, that and the padding issues mean that half of what it actually does manage to record miss the end (although to be fair that is about 60% the networks fault rather than ICETV/Humax).

Looks like it's happened again today and looks like it's issues 2 (although it could be a combo).

What's also causing issues is that when this happens my schedule goes blank:

When this happens shows still record, but are not filed correctly and have no names.  If you know the time and date you can work out what is what (or just try and watch the blanks).  There is an additional problem in that these blank recordings DO NOT include the start and end padding time so (thanks to difference between the clock and the actual station start time) I'm missing some of today's shows.

Using fix #2 saw the guide come back but the schedule remained blank (over 30 minutes later).  Turning the unit off with the remote then back on (no hard power cycle) then turning it immediately back on, then opening the schedule seemed to fix the problem.  IT initially still came up blank but then cascaded the names down the screen until they were all filled in again.

There is another thread I started here about the padding time missing:  http://forum.icetv.com.au/iceforum/index.php?topic=3333.0

Maybe these issues are related?

Bottom line I'm wondering if I can delete my current reservations and simply create a manual timed recording of a channel.  In my case it's really only the news I want to record.  (for everything else I'm happy to use the automated system).  I had a look at that just now (without deleting my current scheduled shows and it looks like it might work, although there appears to be no way for me to manually enter a name for the recording so the system wants to call it by the name of the show BEFORE what I want to record (since I'm starting 5 minutes before that show ends).

When this device is working it's fantastic, just a shame there have been regular issues in the few weeks I have had the device :(

Padding always has been setup for 3 minutes before and after and while I accept this may not be enough in all instances, when was the last time a show started EARLY??

That said, the 6pm News is one of those things that pretty much always starts bang on 6pm.  I have always found that if you went by clock the STB's clock (including my old Foxtel box and the Humax) you were 15 - 30 seconds late if you started recording right on 6pm.  Adding in a couple of minutes at the start fixed the problem.

But back to my specific issue, the old recordings were all 35/36 minutes where the last couple have been 29/30 minutes and cut off the first 30 seconds.

Like I said, last night I removed the schedule for the news and re-added them (via the web) and have upped the padding to 5 minutes to see what happens with tonight's recordings.

Humax / Padding Missing?
March 08, 2012, 07:14:54 PM
I have noticed the last few days that the padding on my recordings doesn't exist which means that I am missing things like the news headlines because they seem to start just before the timer every day.  Anyone else having this issue?

I have deleted the schedules today and have re-added them via the web... will see if that helps or not?

Humax / Issues with Program Guide?
February 28, 2012, 07:07:53 PM
I got home this evening and tried to watch the news (which is scheduled to record) and it's not there... nor is the next scheduled show.  On closer inspection it seems that the TV Guide is about 80% blank on the device (shiny new Humax 7500T 500GB bought from ICETV).  I can't seem to see any error message or any way to check if it's connected to the web other than to play something through iView (which worked).
Switching the unit off and on again didn't seem to help, even entering the ICETV username/password again didn't seem to make any difference.
My internet connection has been up the whole time and I watched a recording last night (Monday's News) so AFAIK it was all working well then.

Any idea's on what may of caused this.  Has there been an issue with the service?  Does it cache on the device or is it constantly updating live?  (and if I do have an outage of internet does that mean nothing works?)

It's just strange that copying over USB removes encryption but not over FTP :S

There can a few reasons for the error icon. The most common causes are trying to record 3 things at once and missing channels. Or if you resend the recordings from the website but they are already set on the PVR.

Everything seems to be recording perfectly, just getting the error icon so it's not currently a big deal.

Lots of errors this week and one of the shows might have been scheduled on both the device and the web, others haven't.  It's also not consistent which get errors and which don't as some shows do and other don't.

Like I said, everything appears to be recording without issue so I'm not complaining too much, I just ignore the icon.

I have the latest FW, but my read of the manual says NTFS is good for reading, not writing... which has been my experience with an NTFS drive hooked up.  The copy icon is greyed out.

I even tried partitioning a drive with one Fat32 and One NTFS and only the Fat32 drive allowed copying.

Humax / Copying large files

It seems that HDD format is limited to Fat32 (which has a 4GB file size limit) and ext3 (which won't mount on a Mac) and even then is limited to 16GB file size.

It seems what trying to copy a file to a USB HDD formatted in Fat32 only copies the first 4GB which is no good to me and ftp-ing into the PVR results in an encrypted file :(

How the hell do you copy off large files for editing/playback on a Mac (or even a PC)?

Humax / Error Message in Online Guide
February 21, 2012, 09:46:15 AM
When viewing the online guide:

http://www.icetv.com.au/interactive/tvguide

I am seeing the little ! in a yellow triangle against a recording which the legend says is an "error"...   While I haven't actually had a chance to check this at home, this is the second time this little icon has shown up, the first time the recording seemed to have finished without issue and I will confirm tonight if todays recording worked as expected.  In both cases the recordings were things set on the PVR itself rather than online.  Pretty much everything else has been done through the website.

Is this a known issue or am I just lucky?

Plan B:  Grab a Logitech Harmony Remote.  We have the Harmony One (which is down to $150 at DSE and as low as $105 else where).  (Check Staticice).  No more crappy remotes with buttons you can't find in the dark, one remote to rule them all!

It does take a little fiddling with their software before you get it just right, but after a little while you won't know how you live without it.

There are cheaper models, in fact I couldn't stand the crappy remote that came with our second (read cheap) TV in the bedroom, the media streamer was also crap but even the low end Harmony remotes make life nice and simple.

To save a whole new thread...

Am I reading correctly that I can copy a file to a USB device and it's automatically decrypted, but I can't FTP in to the box and copy it off that way and then be able to edit or even play it!!??

(I'm running a new 7500T which I let upgrade it's own firmware).
