Humax / Re: Copying large files
March 16, 2012, 10:33:51 PM
Hi,

just to confirm that the final test worked, I move a 34Gb file off the Humax onto the external drive and then onto my PC with no problems so the solution seems to work.

Happy to provide more detail but my previous post has the essential bits. This should work on a Mac if you can get Ext3 drivers.

Cheers,

Scott.

Humax / Re: Copying large files - success!!

Ok, I think I have cracked this one... I used the Ext2Fsd project to install drivers for Ext2/Ext3 drives and I can see the drive in Windows Xp and can copy it off the drive onto my NTFS drive...

This is what I did:

1. Using my WD external USB drive I attached it to the Humax (front port) and got the Humax to format it, it uses Ext3 as the format, copied a file that is over 4GB to the drive, Humax can see it fine.

2. Downloaded the Ext2Fsd software from:

http://ext2fsd.sourceforge.net/projects/projects.htm

instaled it, got it to start as a service and automatically assign drive letters, Rebooted my XP machine

3. Booted with the USB drive attached, opened Explorer and the Ext3 drive is there as per any other drive and can now copy to and from it as per an NTFS / FAT32 drive.

I will test this more by putting the drive back on the Humax and copying a whole set of files across and then see tomorrow if they come across but am hopeful that this will work.

Cheers,

Scott.

Hi,

I am going to try the EXT3 route, that is put the EXT3 driver on my PC, format the external drive as EXT3 and then try it on the Humax with a larger file. EXT3 is supposedly limited to 16GB but this is a big advance over FAT32's 4GB.

Will try tonight and let you know how it goes.

Humax / Re: Humax 1.05 version
March 13, 2012, 10:43:18 PM
Hi,

The encryption is removed when a file is copied to external storage (you have to acknowledge the copyright screen), as the FTP transfer does not involve the box directly the encryption is not removed. If you attach an external drive, copy the files to that and then FTP off that drive (which I think you can do with the latest firmware) then you wil be an unencrypted file!

If you get the beta version of VLC it supports streaming from the Humax, quite cool. Note that the normal download verion (V1.x) does not seem to support this, you need the V2 beta.

Hi,

I have the same problem, I have an external WD drive that was formatted with NTFS. When I put it on the Humax the Humax said it wanted to format it so I let it do it's thing and then copied a recorded program onto it. When I plugged the drive into my PC the PC (Windows XP) would not recognise the drive so I use Disk Manager to reformat it and then the FAT32 utility pointed out previously to format it as FAT32.

The drive can now be seen on the Humax and the PC but... you can only copy 4GB files, larger files are just truncated.

The weird thing is that I have a 32GB SD card in a USB adapter that seems to work Ok but I must admit I am not totally sure that I was getting large files onto it so maybe it wasn't.

Is there a solution?? FTP is slow and of course doesn't remove the encryption (from the forums the encryption is removed during the copy process so that the copy is un-encrypted, as you have to Ok to a copyright screen this is probably how Humax feel they deal with the copyright issue). I could put the external drive on the Humax and copy the file to that and then FTP off that drive but again FTP is slow and it is much easier just to start a batch copy and let it go overnight.

Any ideas?? Overall the box is great and at this stage I would recommend it, just need to solve this one.

Thanks,

Scott.

Humax / Setting the Humax remote to emulate other remotes
February 13, 2012, 12:00:06 PM
Hi,

I read in a review that you can program the Humax remote to emulate other remote controls, i.e. to turn the TV on and off. It seems to be able to do this via the top set of buttons on the remote but I have no idea how I program the remote to emulate my current TV remote. I realise that you have to enter a code but does anyone know how to do this??

Thanks,

Humax / Re: SRT subtitle files
January 24, 2012, 09:05:33 PM
Hi,

The TS files produced by the Humax should contain any sub-titles, for example when I play a Humax TS file in VLC I can turn the sub-titles on and off (just checked this).

If you use ProjectX to process the files you can make it produce a sub titles file, I think it is an SRT file but it may be one of the other formats, I have a utility that converts one to the other so if you want more info I can dig that out.

So the sub-titles are there, you just need a program to extract them, projectX will do this with some tweaking - at least I have done it for topfield files and the Humax should be the same.

Hi,

I now have everything working so I thought I would document what I do to get files off the Humax and onto DVD. I am using the latest firmware:

1. I use a 32GB SD card off my camera with a USB adaptor (SanDisk) to copy files off the Humax to the PC, USB flash drives work perfectly but USB hard drives seem to have formatting issues I have not investigate but the SD card / USB flash drive is easy

2. Use Project-X V 0.91 to demux the .TS files to seperate video/audio

3. Use TMPGEnc to encode the demuxed files to either DVD format or DIVX, TMPGEnc will then write DVD's directly

Note that if you rename the .TS files to .MPG many video programs will play them directly, my Western Digital Live box for example will play them perfectly as .MPG files - so no need to convert them! Of the PC programs VLC is by far the best and will play the .TS files directly.

Hope this helps!

Scott.

Note: Copying material that is copyright may be illegal... you get the idea!

Hi,

Thanks, just downloaded the latest ProjectX (0.91) and it worked, presume I had my older 0.90.4 set up for the topfield and that may have been the problem, either way it is working.

I downloaded the files by copying to a flash drive and then using that to trasfer to my PC, I have an old external drive I may use but it wanted to re-format the drive so I held off until I can be sure that that will do to the drive!! If the re-formatting is Ok then I can use that with the Humax and just copy and then FTP.

But I can do what i want and in all honesty am happy with the Humax, a step up from the old Toppy 5000 SD box which I have a fondness for.

Thanks,

Humax / Converting Humax 7500 TS files with ProjectX
January 20, 2012, 02:17:24 PM
Hi,

Has anyone had success demuxing TS files from a Humax 7500 using ProjectX? I used to be able to do it for files from a Topfield but the files from the Humax just generate a lot of errors.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Scott.

Humax / Re: Can't copy files to external drive

Hi Dave,

I tried copying a new recording last night and it worked, I can get it to my PC and play it with VLC. I am having probelms with projectX so not there yet but much closer, maybe it is because the Humax files seem to be 50 fps. I wil try another package called SUPER tonight to see how that goes.

Thanks,

Scott.

Hi,

Yes I am trying to play the .TS file, also ProjectX doesn't like it either. It may be that it is off an HD channel not an SD, not sure of VLC can play HD files...

I use VLC to play the .REC files off my old Toppy Ok and am keen to be able to do the same with the new box.

Thanks,

Humax / Re: Can't copy files to external drive

Thanks Dave. I can now copy the files to a USB stick but when I get them to my PC VLC won't play them, I understood that under V1.05 that I would be able to do this?? Is it worth going back to 1.04??

Thanks,

Scott.

Humax / Can't copy files to external drive
January 18, 2012, 01:03:33 PM
Hi,

I have a 7500 with the latest firmware and I am trying to copy a recording to an external USB drive. The drive is a USB powered WD drive plugged in the rear USB port and with the network adapter in the front port.

The system recognises the drive and I can see the folders on the drive but when I use Opt+ to copy/move a file while I can navigate to the external drive the copy button is greyed out and so I can't copy the file.

The same thing happens with a flash USB drive, it can see the drive but the copy function is greyed out or not working.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Scott.
