Insiders (ABC and ABC News) 9.00 am this morning did not look like a repeat to me. I suspect that it was marked as such because Angus Taylor featured as an interviewed guest quite recently, I think February 2024.

All other broadcasts of this episode are correctly marked as repeats, but that won't be any comfort to those who have the program set to record first runs only.

I think it's reasonable to say that mislisting this program is not a trivial mistep.

BYOB / Automatic commerical detection
March 24, 2024, 06:42:28 PM
Since the recent update I am seeing what are (for me) a bunch of "junk" files in the recordings directory, that seem to appear following completion of a recording. Inspection with Windows Notepad showed one of these files to contain information about ad skipping.

Is this normal behaviour, of have I somehow screwed up the installation with one of my "tweaks"?

I tried following the instructions in the release email:

On the home screen of the IceBox if you go down to "Add-ons".
Then go across to the big "IceTV" logo and press the "OK" button on the remote control.
On the settings screen select "Automatic Commercial Detection" to disable it.
Go across to the "OK" button on the right hand side, then when highlighted press the "OK" button on the remote control.

but couldn't find a big "IceTV" logo to press OK on. Is this peculiar to BYOB installations?

Is there some other way through Add-ons that Automatic Commercial Detection can be disabled?

My real aim is to determine if disabling Automatic Commercial Detection stops generation of auto skip files in the recordings directory,

TIA!

BYOB / Keyword Recording not sticking
January 15, 2024, 04:08:27 PM
Today I was able to add a Keyword Recording for my Beyonwiz T2, but apparently not for my BYO IceBox.

The Keyword Recording Preview showed the right programs, but after creating the Keyword Recording it did not show up in the Manage Series or My Week pages for IceBox. Attempts to recreate the Keyword Recording for IceBox resulted in an error advising that a Keyword Recording had already been created.

Any suggestions how to get this to work would be very welcome!

BYOB / EPG Issue in BYO?
December 26, 2023, 02:19:38 PM
I have an ongoing issue with gaps in the epg with my BYOB installation. Currently with ABC and SBS, with the guide fully populating from 1.00 am Wednesday 27 December. This has been the situation for the past two days or so. No amount of clearing guide data in settings, forcing full guide update, or rebooting the box resolves the issue. I tried resetting the guide location from Canberra to Sydney, with the same result.

The gaps are not evident in an IceTV enabled BW T2 or the IceTV XMLTV feed.

The issue is not confined to ABC and SBS, but also observed quite recently with Channel 7.

My question is does this occur with IceBox, or is it an issue with BYO installations?

IceTV EPG Content / Doctor Who
November 26, 2023, 11:07:03 AM
For the first time in a very long time Doctor Who will not only not be fast tracked but by the looks of it not even broadcast on ABC TV https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/nov/26/doctor-who-australia-abc-cancels-free-to-air-tv-show-disney.

The article advises "...now Doctor Who will only be available to Australian viewers on Disney+." Not on Aus TV maybe, but for sure BBC continues to broadcast the show on BBC1. Like Scrublands, currently only available in Australia on Stan, but broadcast on BBC4 and available in its entirety on BBC iPlayer.

IceTV EPG Content / Rugby World Cup
October 14, 2023, 03:35:58 PM
Looks like another miss for Rugby with World Cup Highlights for Saturday 14 October absent from the TV Guide.

It shows up OK in the xmltv feed as "Rugby Union: Rugby World Cup (2023 - Highlights 16/09/2023)" for Sat. Oct. 14 at 2:00 pm, but (apart from an apparently incorrect date in the subtitle) is also marked as a Repeat.

Unless I am mistaken this was the first showing of 9's Rugby World Cup Highlights package for the last weekend of the pool stages.

BYOB / Notifications of failed timers
August 07, 2023, 10:06:30 AM
Mindful of limited support for IceBox BYO I'm hoping someone here can help me out with a reason why I am getting Notifications of failed timers from a series recording with first runs and repeats I am trying to set up for a program airing multiple repeat episodes this week. The error reads "Could not find airing in the guide (title not matching), cannot schedule timer".

The errors arise when trying to set timers from both the IceTV web pages or from iPhone.

The timers have set without issue on a Beyonwiz T2.

The timers can be set manually from the Guide without issue on the IceBox BYO.

IceTV EPG Content / Bledisloe Cup
July 27, 2023, 02:31:00 PM
There is something wrong with the scheduling for the Bledisloe Cup this Saturday 29 July. The listing at 7.55 pm is for '2021 - Game 3 - Post Match' and marked as a repeat. It should be for the match being broadcast live!

Where did that come from?

IceTV EPG Content / The Capture
October 07, 2022, 10:34:51 AM
The synopsis for The Capture in What's On This Weekend is for series 1. This is misleading on two counts: first that the showing is series 1, and second (because there is no Repeat indicated) that it is the first showing of series 1.

The IceTV web pages and the xml feed downloaded yesterday both show correctly a synopsis for the first episode of series 2. It would be helpful if whoever is putting together the "What's On" mailouts could provide up to date information on shows which in this case was available (apparently) from your own IceTV sources.

IceTV EPG Content / Millennium trilogy
September 19, 2022, 11:03:37 AM
What's On This Week advertises a re-run of the (original) Swedish version of Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy, but the images of Daniel Craig associated with the first two of the series had me searching around for US covers of the second and third movies that never materialised.

Craig did feature as Mikael Blomkvist in one cover, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but there were no sequels.

IceTV EPG Content / What's On This Week
September 12, 2022, 02:34:52 PM
I haven't seen my (usually) regular What's On This Week email today.

Last regular one was last Monday 5 September.

Then there was another last Friday 9 September titled What's On This Week, but in the body "Looking for your weekend viewing banquet?".

Looks like the What's On This Weekend last Friday may have been mistitled, and perhaps (I don't know) the IceTV servers think that they have done their job already for What's On This Week.

Anyway, will we see an update, or like TV schedules has everything been knocked into a cocked hat?

IceTV EPG Content / 7mateHD in Canberra
July 02, 2022, 03:47:19 PM
I see that we now have 7mateHD in Canberra, but it is not yet in the IceTV Channel lineup for Canberra.

It looks to be simulcasting what is on 7mate.

IceTV EPG Content / Agatha Raisin
June 20, 2022, 03:53:30 PM
I suspect that there is something wrong with the scheduled entry for 'As The Pig Turns (Part 2)' ABC TV, 11:06pm, Fri, 24 Jun 2022. It is listed as a new show (yellow star) whereas Part 1 broadcast Sun, 19 Jun 2022 was listed as a repeat.

Agatha Raisin is also listed on IceTV's New Series page as starting 24 June. Illogical.

The ABC schedule lists the 24 June broadcast episode as a repeat.

XMLTV (General) / XMLTV Setup
August 01, 2021, 11:40:14 AM
One of the features that I value in IceTV enabled PVRs is the ability to select an option for the repeat flag "R" to be appended to the end of titles, where appropriate. This is handy for a quick scan of the status of shows in the EPG grid.

I have just downloaded an IceTV XML file, where it appears that there is no indication of the repeat status anywhere in the file, either in the title or in the body, although there is a field "previously-shown start=". TV Scheduler Pro manages to append a repeat flag where appropriate in its INFO field, perhaps relying on the "previously-shown start="file in the XML feed.

Ideally I would like to see an option in My Recorders for the XML feed, similar to that for IceTV enabled PVRs, that provides an option to append the repeat flag "R" to the end of titles. Failing that, is there any way that an option in the "How to download the IceTV XMLTV feed with Wget" page could be made available to do that?

IceTV EPG Content / Olympics: Tokyo 2020
July 22, 2021, 10:31:11 AM
Is there any way that the IceTV team will be able to pick out a daily highlights package from the marathon Olympics: Tokyo 2020 broadcasts? From a quick glance the published 7 schedules and FTA EPG don't appear to be much help.

At this stage the best bet might be to just record the Overnight Session.

IceTV EPG Content / Fisk confusion
March 18, 2021, 02:48:21 PM
I recorded what I understood to be the first episode of a new series Fisk which aired Wed 17 March. The Beyonwiz T2 timer had the subtitle "Series 1, Episode 1".

There is another episode of Fisk scheduled for Fri 19 March in the T2 which is subtitled Portrait Of A Lady.

There is no entry for this Fri 19 March timer in My Week.

The XML guide updated 5.30 pm yesterday has an entry for the Fri 19 March screening with the subtitle Series 1, Episode 1, and marked as a REPEAT.

What are we to believe?

Maybe something obvious that I am missing, but now and then I need to update an existing keyword recording.

I see a line for Pattern, but unless one is familiar with the syntax it looks awkward to edit. Currently I just delete the existing keyword recording and start again from scratch.

Rather than do that, is there some way of returning to the GUI used for setting up the original search. so that pattern match criteria can be modified there?

Series 3 of Britain's Most Historic Towns starts with 'Medieval Lincoln' on SBS, 7:35pm, Wed, 6 Jan 2021.

It is marked, in my opinion incorrectly, as a repeat.

It is listed in coming soon as "Series 3 commences 6/1/21. Famed historian and professor Alice Roberts explores Britain's history through the stories of the country's most historic and well-known towns."

There has to be something wrong with IceTV's database, if I am right in my thinking that this is a completely new series. It has only just finished showing in the UK.

General Discussions / Search Options
August 07, 2020, 02:40:00 PM
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I only seem to be able to search in this forum for keywprds on topic subject lines. Is there any way to conduct a search on subject lines and/or topic contents?

I doubt that The Brokenwood Mysteries 'Dead Men Don't Shoot Ducks'  scheduled for 9Gem, 8:30pm, Sun, 21 Jun is a repeat. It is the third episode in the latest (sixth) series of this show and as far as I know has not been shown previously in Australia.
