New firmware released for IceBox 12.1.1

We are pleased to announce the release of version 12.1.1 of the IceBox firmware.

Some of the notable improvements are:

• Built on Libreelec version 12.0.1
• TVHeadEnd recording software updated
• Automatic Commercial Detection software updated
• New wireless management software to help with some wireless stability some members have experienced
• Multiple fixes for IceTV updates stopping unexpectedly
• Pre and Post padding can now be set via the IceTV Add On Settings (if the settings are blank when you first look they will be set to the default of 3 mins for pre padding and 30 mins for post padding)
• Fixed so that the IceBox hard drive will not run out of space, the oldest recording will be deleted to ensure that 5GB of space always remains available

It will download and auto install on your Icebox's and should already be on your machine waiting to be installed. To have the update applied simply press the power button on your remote control and select "Reboot" from the menu that comes up, as the IceBox reboots it will apply the new firmware.

You can check the version number by going into "Settings" then into "LibreELEC" and on the "About" tab on the left the Version number will be listed. After the upgrade is complete it will be 12.1.1.

If after you reboot the IceBox you are not on 12.1.1 give the IceBox a couple of hours to download the update and try rebooting again. Please note it can take up to 24 hours for the IceBox to check if a new firmware is available. As I understand it, each time the IceTV add-on is updated the pre and post padding will reset to the defaults. If you use custom padding you may wish to disable automatic updates, particularly if you plan to go on holidays.

You can no longer modify pre a post padding using TVHeadend web server. You can only change them using the IceTV add-on.

This update had huge consequences for my BYO IceBox.  The IceBox got stuck in a loop trying to read new channels, the old channels still worked.  It then stopped recording, even though the channels had valid timers.  I did a soft reset (supposed to keep recordings), but it reformatted my disk - all recordings lost.  Hard reset didn't return the system to function until today.  Is this something that BYO can look forward to in subsequent updates?  Is the IceBox sold by IceTV also affected so badly?

Do you mean update 12.2.1 released last month? I have had no issues with that in my BYO IceBox, so what you are experiencing may be related to the hardware you are using. I also don;t recall seeing anything here that would suggest your issues with update 12.2.1 are being experienced in IceBox sold by IceTV.

A soft reset should not result in loss of recordings, unlike a hard reset. It can be difficult to distinguish between the two when doing a reset - at least once I accidentally selected hard reset when I intended selecting a soft reset.

A long time ago I have a recollection that despite selecting a soft reset a hard reset (in effect) took place. If I recall correctly, when doing a soft reset, restoring recordings requires access to the /recordings/backups directory; if that directory is corrupted or not found, then no recordings are recovered. @Daniel Hall can confirm if this is in fact the case. Towards the end of the setup wizard, do you recall seeing a message about searching for existing recordings (or words to that effect)?

I have not installed the latest release; but I have installed a beta build which is (as I understand it) identical except for getting add-on updates from the beta feed. On both my BYOB I installed the firmware without major problems - the only problem was some incorrect LCN assignments which were fixed by watching live tv on one LCN for each network with incorrect LCN which corrects the problem. Had the LCN problem with my IceTV IceBox as well.
