Not really, non-HTTPS websites are a security risk, so the goal is to remove all non-HTTPS sites. Much easier to say than do.

This is why Google Chrome is making "harder" to access HTTP sites, flagging them as "Not Secure", etc. It's also why I found it very strange when GMail running in Google's own browser worked without making any site changes. Seems to defeat the purpose.

Eventually, it will also mean that even the Bureau of Meteorology will have to finally embrace HTTPS on their main domain (www.bom.gov.au) at some time in the future.

PS. You can access BOM sites via HTTPS buy using: https://reg.bom.gov.au/ instead.

Thanks Daniel, the IceTV email works just fine now that everything has been converted to use HTTPS.

The previous BOM beta, https://weather.bom.gov.au/ was also HTTPS, but it got canned. That URL now redirects to the BOM's current non-HTTPS page. I really don't think that redirecting a HTTPS request to a HTTP URL is a great idea.
