*** FIXED*** Another V2 BOOT problem - and USB Drive recordings question

Hi all

Like a number of other users and threads, all of a sudden my V2 hung during its Boot up. I use the V2 daily, and record with it weekly. Its worked flawlessly since now.

I thought I could hear a clicking coming from the external USB HDD and that this may have been the cause. I have turned it OFF at the rear switch numerous times, left it for 10 minutes, rebooted. Done reboots with the USB HDD disconnected, and with the USB Tuner also disconnected. It was running through its boot up until it got to "49" on the counter on the front display (which I think is either the FTA Channel counter, or the % of boot up progress), and stopped.

Occassionally it has successfully rebooted and started receiving FTA broadcast, the EPG worked channel and volume via remote etc. But as soon as I plugged the USB HDD back in, it rebooted and hung again. Now it just sits there with the word "boot" on the front display.

I did a google search and reached out to European Electronics, and JLS Electronics to see if they thought they could help, but both said no.

QUESTION 1 - Do you have any ideas on what I can try?
QUESTION 2 - If I want to try the "Recovery" button on the back, do I hold it in and then turn the power on, or do I just turn the power on, wait for it to hang, then hit the Recovery button?
QUESTION 3 - What can I expect to happen if the Recovery button works, and gets the device to boot up?
QUESTION 4 - In the absence of anything working with the V2, how do I recover all the recordings on the USB HDD?  Windows 11 does not even read or recognise the drive at all. Do I need to the take it to someone?

You can recover your recordings using software that can read the ext4 file system (or Linux files systems more generally). Another possibility is to use a Linux live distribution (https://www.linux.org/threads/using-live-version-of-linux.55336/ ). You could also try Linux File Systems for Windows by Paragon Software (https://www.paragon-software.com/home/linuxfs-windows/ ), it cost about AU$ 54.99. There may be a cut down version of ext4 only. I have used it and it is quite easy to work with. You can use it in "trial mode" (think it works for two weeks) which should be more than enough time to recover your recordings.

There is no documentation for how the recovery process works; however I typed the following question into Microsoft Copilot and got quite detailed information on how it works: "How does the Beyonwiz V2 recovery process work?"

I can report a full fix!

I was able to email Stevani from NASA Electronics. I had an email address from when I had my DP-P2 repaired in 2019. He advises that they have closed the repair business last year, but all that I needed was a new 12v / 3amp power supply to resolve the V2 problem I described.

I jumped on to Amazon and bought this for $15.00:

I have just plugged it in, and the V2 booted up like normal, USB HDD all accessible,  everything working as it should.

If you're experiencing boot up issues, try a new power supply. It just saved me $550 for a new Fetch 4K box!

That's really interesting.  I had been given that suggestion on a Whirlpool forum.  I took the V2 power supply to Altronics and they tested it and said it was ok.  But maybe I should have bought a new one and tried it anyway!  I might do that tomorrow!

When i replaced the power supply last night, i saw that the original Beyonwiz delivered power supply was 12v/2a.

Google tells me that the 3amp supply can deliver more current if the devices requires it,  not that it will deliver it regardless

My V2 is currently with a repairer, who is very familiar with Beyonwiz (and Topfield).  He took one look at the power supply (2amp) and said it wasn't to spec and should be a 3amp!  Mine was purchased from Beyonwiz, but is actually a refurbished unit, so we wondered if that was why it had the wrong power unit.  So it is interesting that yours was 2amp as well.  Was yours a refurbished unit by any chance?  I just hope that this is the fix!!

Mine was  bought in 2019 as well, but was listed as refurbished.  It came in the usual box, and looked brand new.
