ICETV Interactive hangs IE7 Browser in Windows XP (SP2).
« on: May 27, 2008, 02:52:50 PM »
I'm finding that the Interactive window in my IE7 browser hangs for a considerable time after you attempt to scroll down within the window (once it has been loaded - it's fine until you scroll)). Waiting for about 2 min brings the browser back again/unlocks it. All windows in the browser are frozen.

It only seems to happen the first time you scroll - once the lockup has passed, it seems to work fine. It seems that it's trying to get the information from the server, but is prevented from doing so in a timely manner. It's happening on a couple of computers to me - connected to different ISPs and in different geograhical locations as well.

Is this just in IE7?

Have you tried Firefox?
(I'm not suggesting you use Firefox instead... it'd just be nice to rule network connections out of the equation)

This also occurs on two different Vista SP1 machines here although it's more like a 20-30 second pause.

No, I haven't tried Firefox, but just repeated the test using IE7.

I selected a new time frame to be displayed, and the same thing happened again. Makes sense, scrolling once the whole page has been loaded doesn't of course cause a send request to be sent. I timed it this time and it took 3 min on my PIV 2.8Mhz 2 GB RAM machine. CPU was gobbled up at 53% (from idle of 2%) during the freeze.

3 mins definitely doesn't sound normal at all...

If possible, a quick Firefox test would really help us.

Goodo - it's now fixed now - thanks. You can see now that it loads up the new data in batches (or at least that's how it looks on the screen). I guess the variability in the time that it froze previously was dependant on the time of day that you invoked the program. The earlier on in the day, the more there is to download if the "Rest of the day" option is chosen to be displayed and hence the longer it paralysed the system.
