Can ICE Interactive handle changes in programming?
« on: August 29, 2008, 08:52:24 AM »
I realise the Topfield TF7100 and ICE Interactive interface is still a work-in-progress, but I've got a question on how ICE Interactive handles changes in EPG programming.

ICE Interactive set two series timers on Nine HD this Friday 7:30pm (30mins) and 8:00pm (30mins).   These have been set on the Topfield correctly by ICE Interactive a couple of days ago.  But now when I look at the EPG and ICE Interactive I see that Channel 9 has changed it programming and the Shrek Movie is now on at 7:30pm Friday.

Because the series timers had been set for 7:30pm Friday ICE Interactive now thinks I'm recording Shrek.  The Topfield timers still exist.

1) Is the aim of ICE Interactive that it should remove series recordings if the EPG programming is changed?
2) This may account for why people are seeing Interactive scheduling show by itself  ?

EDIT: Just found a similar post - but it didn't get a clear answer as to how ICE Interactive is meant to handle these changes.

Good thread:
Another unanswered thread (there are lots of these):
One thread:
From the ICE chat, it doesn't appear to reschedule timers.

Beyonwiz DP-S1 & Topfield 5K (using PerlTGD to upload ICE EPG/timers for the 5K, normal ICE interactive for the Wiz).

Thanks for the good pointers Tony.  One of the most relevant response from IceTV is below.  It looks like it 'should' remove the old timers, but is not working that way at the moment.

The system is setup so that timers track shows rather than time slots, so if a showing changes times then what is designed to happen is that a new timer will get created for the new timeslot and the old timer is removed, with both a new timer creation message for the new timeslot and a forget message for the old timeslot being sent down to the device.

There is currently a bug in the system that means that the recording for the old timeslot is not being removed, so two timers will be in the system for the show (this is reason that people have been getting weird phantom recordings being added to the schedule), we know of the issue and are working on a fix but unfortunately do not have a firm time frame for this to be resolved.
