Wow. Don't like it then.  How about a quick review?

Let us know the formats that reliably work. No ice?

That looks like an amplifier and unlikely the issue.  I'd be checking the fans in the unit.  If they are OK I would suspect the cpu is cooked or the hard drive.

That is bad luck.  I'd be surprised if they did not come to the party as consumer laws enforce a reasonable expectation of lifetime.
That been said it made me think what I'd do if my unit which is a similar age died. The Humax has failed in so many areas for me that I hate to say it but I'd probably go the fetch deal with Optus. The only reason I keep the Humax is the pause live TV the guide and recording live TV.  And there's not much to record anymore.

Factory reset it yet? Also if using wifi pull out the dongle and see if it settles. Ah one more thing.  How many tracks/files on the hdd? Too many files will make it reset all the time.  Eg i put  2000 music tracks on and had the same issue.
I'd be formatting the disk too if none of these work before sending it back

[sup How did you eventually get the Humax to stop automatically updating to the newest software/sup]

Went back to an early firmware set it off then upgraded to the previous version to current

I had no issues on the new firmware with the ethernet port.

Working fine on a 7500 on previous firmware

Good review but not so good for ice TV.  However the media playback abilities were not covered. I'd want to see that first

What os are you running.  Win7? It might be worth a rebuild.

you can use both ports but you'd have to switch inputs via the monitor itself. I have a similar setup on my PC and laptop where they share the same screens.

RE the media center - from a TV tuner perspective the Humax will blow WMC's wheels off. But its the other way around for media.

WMC should not get sluggish as you say. I'd be looking at the plugins

It is possible and would work fine if you used hdmi. Why you would want to do this I'm not sure as a pc is a much better media player.

Unless humax have done some serious changes this thing will be a 4 tuner version of the 7500. No smb no nfs just dlna for sharing/playback of media. The apps will be an extension of what was recently released.  Australia is too small a market for an all new product.  So another great free to air tuner recorder and a crap media server.

Humax / Re: Playing Video/Movies From PC - Required File Formats
« on: June 01, 2014, 09:06:17 PM »
I've yet to find a format that the humax consistently plays.  Avis play OK up to about 1.2gb then need copying to the humax drive. Mp4s usually work. Mkv rarely works. Vob works OK. But none are consistent.  Mp4 is the most consistent
