General Discussions / Which PVR should I get?
« on: April 30, 2015, 03:37:49 PM »
I have a Beyonwiz DP-Lite.  I am considering giving it to my mum so she can record shows as she frequently complains that she falls asleep and misses the end of shows.

There are 2 key features I want:

1) a PVR that has built in wifi / networking capabilities (to avoid the nightmare that I endured setting up a router to my DP-Lite to access ice-tv and network with my laptop).

2) a PVR that will play the most common file types including eg mp4 (currently I have to convert/recode mp4s to another format in order to stream them from my computer on my wiz).

I don't need a big hard drive in the PVR as I don't record much.  250GB would be plenty.

I would like the cheapest option that has the above features and that is reliable in its streaming.  Any suggestions?

(There are so many more options now than there were back when I bought my DP-Lite that it would take me days to research them all myself, which is why I am hoping my fellow icetv fans can narrow it down for me - thanks!)

IceTV EPG Content / "Two Hours" ch 7 sat 10:30pm - not in icetv guide
« on: March 14, 2012, 03:10:14 PM »
The icetv guide appears inaccurate as it doesn't have the one hour program "Two Hours" listed for 10:30pm on Sat night.  I have checked on the channel 7 website epguide and it is listed.

Here is more info about the show:

Channel Seven will televise an exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary with unprecedented access on the epic 2011 AFL Grand Final following the NAB Cup Grand Final on Saturday March 17.

The one-hour documentary - entitled ‘Two Hours’ - captures Mick Malthouse’s extraordinary and emotional pre-match address which will get the hair on the back of every footy fan’s neck standing up.

It tells the stories behind the game featuring interviews with Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse and Geelong coach Chris Scott, as well as raw interviews with several players including Geelong captain Cameron Ling, Collingwood captain Nick Maxwell, Steve Johnson, Chris Dawes, Matthew Scarlett, Tom Lonergan, Jimmy Bartel, James Podsiadly, and James Kelly.

Steve Johnson, who was famously in doubt for the match with a “wrenched” knee, candidly reveals the challenges he went through to play in this Grand Final, even concealing the extent of his injury from teammates.

When several players arrived at Johnson’s house in the lead-up to the match, Johnson hid the fact he was icing his knee.

“I had this blow-up ice thing on my knee and I just whipped that straight off and quickly hid it in the corner and answered the door,” he says.

“He was icing up and hid the ice. He’s pretty cagey Stevie,” says Matthew Scarlett.

“I don’t care if I ever walk again, as long as I get this premiership,” Johnson says of his mindset at the time.

Premiership winning Geelong captain and now Channel 7 AFL commentator Cameron Ling says: “Those two hours on Grand Final day changes so many people’s lives.”

AFL Media producer Peter Dickson was granted unparalleled access behind the scenes during the Grand Final and he spent several months interviewing players and coaches involved.

AFL Chief Operating Officer Gillon McLachlan thanked the two clubs, their players and coaches for their co-operation in documenting the story around the 2011 Toyota AFL Grand Final.

“The AFL, through the work of Pete Dickson, is wanting to tell key parts of the history of our game through the words of the people with central roles at the time,” Mr McLachlan said.

“After documenting the 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001 Grand Finals last year, this documentary fills in the picture of what happened around and behind Geelong’s victory over Collingwood in last year’s Grand Final.

“I can only thank and congratulate the two clubs for their willingness to be involved and their candour around the biggest day on Australian sport,” he said

“This documentary is a wonderful piece of storytelling. The emotional and gripping interviews make this compelling viewing,” said Seven Melbourne Managing Director Lewis Martin.

‘Two Hours’ will premiere Saturday March 17 at 10.30pm in Melbourne, 10pm in Adelaide and 9.50pm in Perth after the NAB Cup Grand Final.

General Discussions / How to connect my Wix DP-Lite wirelessly
« on: May 03, 2011, 10:37:26 PM »
I have a Beyonwiz DP-lite.  Currently I have an ethernet cable running across the room to connect it to my modem and thus connect to my network.  Unfortunately I have a puppy who loves eating the cable despite my attempts to cover it with rugs and use cord covers etc.  Is there any way I can connect my wiz to the network wirelessly? The Wiz has a USB port.  So would it be possible to connect a wireless USB dongle? How reliable would the connection be? Would it be slower or drop out?  (The modem would still be in the same room)

If the dongle will work, can anyone make a recommendation?  (Preferably not too expensive)

Thanks in advance :)

Last year icetv had a Christmas in July special - 12 months for $49.  To IceTV staff - will you be having a similar promotion this year?  ;)

IceTV EPG Content / First 48
« on: July 06, 2010, 03:37:58 PM »
I keep missing the end of 'First 48' because channel 7 & 72 keep running waayyyy overtime.  This is despite the fact that I have a 15 minute buffer at the end of my recording!  I don't understand it; it is not like there is sport on beforehand which runs overtime to cause scheduling problems.  I suppose there is not much icetv can do about it though is there?  ???

Oh, ok, thanks Peter.  So if I turn my wiz completely off (i.e. not just on standby) the network will be disabled won't it? which will mean icetv will disable?  Is that correct?

Hi Daniel,

OMG, how stupid am I?!?  I can't believe I didn't notice that the setting had somehow reverted to "disable".  I've enabled it again and my recording list has come through.

Thanks so much.  I feel like such a goose LOL.  Oh well, at least I'll know the first thing to check if I ever have a problem again.

Thanks again.

p.s. I've only had them a few days but I already don't know how I ever lived without my PVR and IceTV  ;D

I set the shows to record on icetv at approx 11pm last night.  I haven't turned the wiz off since so if they 'download' to the wiz eveery 30 mins or show they should have shown up by now (as it is now 3pm the following day).

I checked the wiz is connected to icetv by going into SETUP>Network>Ice Guide>Check User Info and it says "user info check successful".  Also, down the bottom of SETUP>Network>Ice Guide it says "Trying to ping" then "ping OK".

On icetv the recordings have not changed from "queued" to "scheduled".

Should I try deleting the device from icetv and reinstalling it?

Beyonwiz / Waiting to be scheduled???
« on: June 15, 2010, 01:57:45 PM »
I purchased a wiz FV-L1 a few days ago.  It is connected to my broadband.

3 days ago I went onto icetv interactive and set a couple of shows to be recorded.  They recorded fine (1 is due to record tomorrow).

I went onto icetv interactive again last night and set a few more shows to be recorded over the next few days but they are not showing up in my timer list on my wiz (although the 1 show that I chose to be recorded 3 days ago that is due to record tomorrow is still listed).

I checked my icetv connection on the wiz and it is connected (as is WizTV) so the internet connection is obviously OK.  I also cleared the EPG cache on the wiz and then went onto ice interactive and selected 'resend all recordings' but that hasn't helped either.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance  ;)
