IceTV EPG Content / Monty Python not a repeat? Really?
« on: March 15, 2019, 09:51:13 PM »
I happened to notice that this evening's Monty Python (Viceland) was marked as first run. It first ran 50 years ago this year.

It's a repeat, even if the SBS guide says that it isn't.

Smart Recording on Android / Image oddities in Recommendations
« on: February 18, 2019, 06:31:11 PM »
The image for Sound of Music in last weekend's Android recommendations looked like it was stretched from 4:3 to 9:16 format, resulting in a very odd-looking Julie Andrews.

And in this week's recommendations, why does the image for Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries show Essie Davis in costume as Phryne Fisher (from Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries), when the new series is about her niece Peregrine Fisher, played by Geraldine Hakewill?

IceTV EPG Content / Odd recommendation for "The Cry"
« on: February 08, 2019, 01:27:43 PM »
In this week's What's On This Weekend and this weekend's Android app Recommendations, The Cry is listed as "Saturday - Repeat".

The Cry isn't a repeat season, it started as a new series last weekend and was featured as IcePick Of the Weekend in last weekend's What's On This Weekend (and, I think, in last weekend's Recommendations, though I can't verify that).

However, Saturday's episode is a repeat, though it's an "encore" repeat of Sun 3 Feb's first run episode (S1E1). Sunday's The Cry is the first run of S1E2.

IceTV EPG Content / Back in time for dinner - Education shorts
« on: February 08, 2019, 12:39:24 PM »
Back In Time For Dinner 'Education Shorts' ABC ME, 10:00, Wed, 13 Feb 2019 is being recorded by my series recording for the original series of 1-hour episodes. This new series are 5-min episodes (for schools?) that seem to be focusing on the "weird" stuff in the original program - the first episode looking at the "shock, horror" of having a single landline as your only phone service.

The odd thing is that though this is being treated by IceTV series recordings as the same show as the original "Back in Time", it's also being described as "Season 1" in the IceGuide.

So is it the a new first season of a different series that shares a name with the original, the second season of the series, but in a different format using snippets from the original, or something else entirely?

IceTV EPG Content / Help! The McMafia have stolen our apostrophe!
« on: February 07, 2019, 05:29:14 PM »
McMafia 'Series 1, Episode 1' SBS, 8:30pm, Wed, 13 Feb 2019

When his families [sic] past brutally returns, Russian exile Alex Godman ...

At least the inability to tell the difference between a plural and a possessive is down to SBS ;)

In the IceTV Support page How to record ABC News only once per day, it says:
click on Advanced Options and set the 'This Time' option to 7:00 pm which will then record the ABC News on channel 20 but only for showings that the guide has listed to start at 7pm.

This strongly implies an exact match, which is probably OK for a program like the ABC main daily news broadcast, but other programs can get shifted around in day-of-broadcast adjustments of the IceTV Guide.

So, if, say, I set a program that's normally scheduled for 7pm to "This time: 7:00pm", and the program actually ends up getting a final scheduled time of 7:05pm, will it record? Exactly what does the setting do?

IceTV EPG Content / Weird schedulling of The Family
« on: January 28, 2019, 11:58:51 AM »
In the ACT at least, Seven has decided to binge-program the whole season of The Family on 7flix in the small hours of Tues 29 and Wed 30 Jan, and then to do the Prime7/Prime HD "main" broadcast of it late evening on Tues/Wed/Thu, one episode a night.

So I think the only way for me to record it in HD (and not in SD) is to set the recording for "All episodes", and "Only high def".  ::)

At least IceTV is flexible enough to manage it.

IceTV EPG Content / Wrong reigns in New Amsterdam...
« on: January 28, 2019, 10:57:30 AM »
Series synopsis: "When the brilliant Dr Goodwin takes the reigns of the oldest hospital in the USA".

No, he "takes the reins".

Vikings "Ragnarok" SBS/SBS HD Thu 31 Jan 21:32 and Vikings "Ragnarok" VICELAND/VICELAND HD 22:45 Fri 1 Feb are both flagged in the ACT IceGuide as "First run".

This seems to be a consequence of the same error in the SBS guide.

IceTV EPG Content / The Illusionists - what _is_ it about?
« on: January 21, 2019, 07:13:18 PM »
The IceGuide says of The Illusionists (Prime7 Canberra, 23:00 Tue 22 Jan):
The illusionists strip away the illusions that underpin the multi-billion beauty and body-image industries that have us in their thrall, and exposes the dark reality that lurks beneath. says of the same program:
A showcase of some of the greatest magic tricks the world has ever seen.

So which is it? Deconstruction of the fashion industry or stage magic?

I didn't know the episode title was wrong before I saw the episode - sorry. You may want to fix up the data anyway.

The episode title for World's Greatest Islands ‘Island Arcs’ (Nine/Nine HD 13:00 Sun 13 Jan) was actually ‘Island Arks’ - about how island isolation can generate unusual ecosystems and species that inhabit them. ‘Island Arks’ was the episode title used in the program.

I had wondered a bit about the episode title when I saw it because the previous episode was ‘Island Archipelagos’ and ‘Island Arcs’ sounded too similar.

Don't feel too bad, the authors of the episode's subtitles made the same mistake several times, too :)

World's Greatest Man Made Wonders ‘Sacred Sites’  13:00 Sat Jan 12 9HD Canberra, is repeated at 06:00 Sun Jan 13, but the "encore" isn't marked as a repeat in the IceGuide.

I received my email What's on this Weekend overnight, but the weekend's recommendations haven't appeared in my Android app. Doing a manual Sync in the app doesn't help.

IceTV EPG Content / Cheese Slices: "encores" not marked as repeats
« on: January 11, 2019, 09:51:44 AM »
SBS Food is broadcasting Cheese Slices ‘Cheeses Of Quebec’ & ‘The Ancient Cheese Of Portugal’ at 18:30 & 19:00 respectively on Sun 13 Jan, and then repeating them on Mon 14 at 08:00 & 08:30. All four are marked as first runs. The error appears to originate with SBS not marking the "encores" as repeats in their online EPG.

IceTV EPG Content / Queen Elizabeth's Secret Agents - too many commas!
« on: January 04, 2019, 02:25:18 PM »
Series synopsis:
Queen Elizabeth's Secret Agents

A look at the secret agents that protected Queen Elizabeth, from treason for over 40 years, through the execution of Mary Queen of Scots to the death of Queen Elizabeth, the capture of Catholic fugitive John Gerard, and the infamous Gunpowder Plot.

There really shouldn't be a comma between "Elizabeth" and "from". The phrase that follows the comma isn't part of the list that follows.
