Humax / Humax 4Tune
« on: October 29, 2014, 07:29:41 PM »
I've had this PVR for about a month now & generally find it very good but oh boy does it do some frustrating things at times....I've tried to list a few in case others have experienced the same/similar thing....
1. Sometimes pressing record on a live show will not start recording. -Switching off seems to be the only fix.
2. The red record light around the front panel button stays red even when it's not recording. -This one takes a cold boot to clear.
3. The EPG is very slow navigating & each channel occupies too much space seriously limiting the amount of on screen info. Having had Topfields for years with TAPS I've been spoilt I know but hey come on guys do we really need all those pretty channel icons which take up so much space?
4. It takes way too long to boot up from cold but is very fast from standby.
5. and finally of course it needs to be ICE compatible!!!! (Which currently it's not btw)

Generally what it does it does extremely well ie I'm yet to have a channel timer clash & between my wife and I we do record heaps.

I too am a fan of the JustEPG layout as well as the functions it brings. A PVR maker could do a lot worse than use this design.
I've never seen an inbuilt EPG display that can hold a candle to JustEPG.

I totally agree about JustEPG. I've just purchased a Humax 4tune after a number of years a Toppy fan and frankly I hate the cumbersome style of EPG built in.

I totally agree. I have been a subscriber for 3-4 years now & if ICE hadn't automatically resubscribed me last week when it became due I was not going to renew. I don't think there would be a day go by that we don't face late starts to programs & subsequent frequent misses to the endings. I could almost handle a one-off situation but often the same program goes week after week without being corrected.

It's just not good enough.

Topfield / Re: Topfield 2400 Quad Recording (May 2010 firmware)

Recording simultaneously from services on three different broadcast frequencies can't work on a dual tuner device.

I appreciate what you're saying, but I would be interested to hear from another owner of the Toppy 2400 as I have the recorded proof that last night the device recorded from 3 different networks simultaneously.

I have a Topfield 7100+ and I've managed on 2-3 occasions to record three completely separate channels! But here's the rub on playback you'll find one of the three files is empty - in other words it will report it as being (say) 1hr.15mins (assuming you have 15m padding) but it will only play for 2-3 secs & stop. I understood it to be a known bug in the 7100+ I don't know about 2400 but I think they virtually share the same FW.
