Windows Vista Media Center / Re: Do i have to install interactive?
« on: January 23, 2010, 08:51:36 PM »
As far as I know you do not need it as you can just use the MCE guide on Windows 7 which works straight up as opposed to previous Windows Media Center Versions. i.e. no need for ICETV if all you want is a guide and ability to schedule recordings for free.

You do need to install the application and have it running in the background if you want to receive the guide data.  You have the option of setting "Guide Only" which stops the interactive functionality - eg you cannot see what is scheduled to record or make chnages to this via the ICETV site which is what I think you were asking.

I do not see any chnage in the PC speed even when ICETV is downloading or updating the guide.  In "Guide Only" mode I suspect that the PC will only logon to ICETV once a day rather than every 30 minutes when you are using Interactive.

MC is certainly more WAF friendly and accessable than ICETV.

I had been using the ICETV batch service for W7 since upgrading in August and finally got interactive installed on the main PC today.  Suddenly strange shows started being scheduled - ICETV had held onto the scheduled recordings from when the PC was running Vista and was now adding them back in!

Quick cull of the series requests held on ICETV and no more issues.

In my case ICETV interactive is an emergency backup in case I forget to schedule something I can add it when I am not at home from any browser.

And yes all my series recordings on MC are shown as single episodes on ICETV but that is not an issue for me.  As far as I can tell both MC and ICETV are in full sync with scheduled records which is what I need to see.

Have completed further checking and no further errors have been reported in the log on TV-PC.

Interactive is syncing with the ICETV web site and I can see all scheduled shows for both my W7 systems online.

Only Issue I have now is that one system (MJD-PC) does not load ICETV on boot.

Will wait for 3.09 and see if it fixes the issue.

Appreciate your interest Luke.

OK had the irits with the whole thing so I did the following:

Uninstalled ICETV and removed all directorys and registry entries

Backed up the MC recordings files

Reset MC with the MCUPDATE command

Rebooted the system

Followed the ICETV installation guide page by page with no errors installed 3.08 after setting up MC

Once up and running with channels and guide copied the recordings back

Downloaded the EPG again and all my recordings magically appeared

ICETV log had the yellow warning message after the second EPG download

Logs attached

Everytjhing now appears to be working

Tried rescanning all channels and then  doing a fresh install of ICETV (.4, .5 & .6) no change.

Edited registry and removed all ICETV entries btween all attempts.

Any suggestions?

I am using Windows 7 on two PC's - one via the old batch proces and one with Interactive.

Both show incorrect episode information and have Supernatural on at 8:30 instead of 9:30 and Stargate Universe on at 9:30 and not 8:30

Is this just a Windows 7 issue?

I have been using the original batch based service for some time and updated yesterday to the new interactive version.

It installs but then fills the log with the following every 10 seconds.

Have tried uninstalling and re instlling but no change.

Going back to the batch service for now.  Works fine on the test box which did not have the old batch system installed.

Windows 7 32 bit

Windows 7 Media Center / Re: Series recording from Tuesday 20th not showing
« on: September 23, 2009, 03:46:28 PM »
I have noticed under W7 that series shows seem to be updated overnight even though the info arrives in the afternoon.

Not sure why but given that it is still a week away no issue.

Michael

It shows as a series on my other W7 box which uses EIT but not on the W7 PC using ICE.

WAF is not happy as this is the third week and she forgets to manually record.

Russell,

I am not sure if this is something I am doing or a guide issue.  I am still seeing repeats being flagged for record even though the series settings are for "NEW" only.  This is not a big issue as it is better to record and delete rather than miss.

The latest one I noted was "Australian Story" ABC1 CH2 Sat 25/7 12:30 - 1:00pm  it is shown as original air date of 20/7/2009 which I am pretty certian was recorded on this PC.

Aside from that all looks great.

Thanks Russell

Quote MJDOZ
"Also noted that Media Watch on Monday night at 21:20 is no longer listed as a repaet as it was prior to the update."

QUOTE Russell at IceTV
"Looking at the guide on our web site, it appears that the Monday night showing is new, and the Wednesday night showing is a repeat, each week, so that sounds right."

Thats correct.  On the old version on Windows 7 it showed all episodes as a repeat.  On Vista (I still have one of those as well) and EIT it showed it as new.  Windows 7 now matches the others so all is well with the world (and WAF).

Thanks again

Michael
