IceTV EPG Content / Re: What's On This Week
« on: November 04, 2019, 06:26:10 PM »
Hi Prl,

"Before We Die" are definitely all repeats!

I checked that as well! Hoping for a second series...

Thanks for the What's On email anyway, it just turned up.

IceTV EPG Content / What's On This Week
« on: November 04, 2019, 04:32:19 PM »
I haven't seen my What's On This Week's regular email today (4 November). I can understand if none was mailed out, but I have no idea if that was the case or not. Perhaps this has been suggested before, but a link somewhere on the IceTV web pages, or in the forum, would be handy so subscribers could access the recommendations if for some reason the email did not reach them.

TIA

Are you scrolling the day to the right to get to the next ones?

Thanks I just worked it out (see my edit above). I'm not a believer in smart phones and apps, so have persistently refused to learn how to use them until recently.

Hi there raymondjpg,

Many thanks for your message about Recommendations for the iPhone app. I have checked my app this morning and the recommendations are there. We had an issue with them yesterday morning and it was corrected by midday.

Cheers,

Tiphanee

I don't know why I can't see them all. I just reset the application, reloaded the  data, and all I can see when I hit the recommendations button is "Behind the sash". Like I said before, I only ever see one recommendation a day, although it does at least change day by day. I can't see anything in the app settings that either limits recommendations to one per day, or opts to show all of what's in the most recent IcePicks email. Do I need to lodge a support ticket?

Edit: User error!I was swiping down not across. Not my finest hour, but I excuse myself for being an app and smart phone fiddling hater.  It does come in handy for whiling away the time in doctors' waiting rooms and annoying people just as much as their fiddling annoys me.

The Android app generally shows exactly what's in the most recent IcePicks email, with, in my experience, few exceptions.

Thanks for the confirmation about the Android app. I would like to the same in the iPhone app.

In the relatively short time that I have been looking at the IceTV iPhone app I have only ever seen one recommendation per day. I was under the impression, perhaps erroneously, that with the Android app, the recommendations reflected what had been distributed on the most recent "what's on" emails.

What should I expect to see, and is there some way to tweak the iPhone app to show more than one recommendation for each day?

IceTV EPG Content / Re: Britains Most Historically Out of Order Towns?
« on: September 03, 2019, 10:40:53 AM »
My guess is that they've decided to present the series in historical order.

You may be right but I wouldn't afford SBS with credit for the reordering.

Series 1 ran in historical order, and it's possible that SBS received some intelligence from Channel 4 that some reordering might be appropriate. Just speculating.

But who knows. I just hope there aren't too many "as we referred to in an earlier program" references :D

My recollection from Series 1 (not so long ago) that there were no such references, and that each episode was self contained.

Thanks, Alison.

I wasn't suggesting that you change the IceTV episode information unless the actual broadcast order can be discovered. I have no idea whether SBS is actually showing the episodes out of the original broadcast order or whether they've mixed up their EPG info.

FWIW the OTA EPG for tonight's episode confirms that SBS's intention at least is to screen episode 5 of series 2 Plantagenet Canterbury viz "Professor Alice Roberts tells the story of Plantagenet England by studying the history of Canterbury, Britain's Most Plantagenet Town. "

SBS moves in mysterious ways, and one has to wonder if the minion charged with the responsibility of programming these offerings from the UK has any facility with the language, or is it just that, because it is English, there is some perverse undertaking to deliberately muck things up because the program is not Special enough for this Service.

Interesting. I'd thought with the ending of season 6 that they'd wound it up. Good to hear that I was wrong.

According to this https://thekillingtimestv.wordpress.com/tag/spiral-series-7/ there will even be an eighth series.

I don't know about the credibility of the source, but they are accurate enough about the screening of series 7 in France earlier this year and about probably coming to BBC 4.

N.B. Minor spoilers in the links on that page.

Spiral Series 7 is scheduled to arrive on SBS on Demand Thursday 12 September, according to a newsletter released by SBS on 29 August.

Interestingly, for me at least, BBC had announced "while we wait for the new season of Spiral" they would be showing a reboot of the original Danish series Those Who Kill, titled "Darkness: Those Who Kill", starting this weekend on the BBC 4 Saturday night slot, two episodes a night over the next four weeks. Interesting because I always thought that SBS benefited from the BBC's expert translation of street French. Maybe BBC has already completed this, because the timing suggests that SBS will be offering Spiral 7 in advance of the BBC.

Hi raymondjpg,

I did email the guide team at SBS with the links to the correct data, but I did not get a response by close of business today, hence my waiting to respond and change our data. I hope they will officially amend their guide or we'll be the only guide with accurate information :)

Regards,
Alison.

Good luck with that! About a year ago SBS was advertising Tony Robinson Down Under which turned out to be Tony Robinson's Hidden Britain By Drone Series 2. They could hardly have got it more wrong. I can't believe that the program descriptions are not written on the "cans".

OK thanks Alison. For those people using the OTA EPG, last time I looked they are still streaming "Tony Robinson's Coast to Coast" for Wednesday 28 August, albeit with a program description that gives some confidence that it will be a second episode of "The Thames: Britain's Great River with Tony Robinson".

The latest episode of one of Tony Robinson's "walks" is scheduled as one of a series of Tony Robinson's Coast to Coast, but turns out to be "Walking the Thames" the first in a series "The Thames: Britain's Great River with Tony Robinson" according to IMDB, and looks to have been first screened by Channel 5 as recently as June this year.

I'm not suggesting a name change for the series by IceTV because it is in the OTA EPG as Tony Robinson's Coast to Coast, and changing it mid-stream as it were would be confusing for folk who, like me, use both IceTV and OTA EPGs for scheduling recordings. I just note it here for accuracy.

According to IMDB and the Channel 5 website "The Thames: Britain's Great River with Tony Robinson" has four episodes. Having seen the first I would like to see the other three screened by SBS, but knowing the potential for confusion in that neck of the woods it is also possible that they screened the wrong program last night. I think it less likely, as acquisition and screening of such a recent program would in all likelihood not have been a mistake. Fingers crossed.

IceTV EPG Content / Re: Seachange ... Wrong season number
« on: August 20, 2019, 08:31:56 AM »
A manual timer that IceTV knows nothing about will be sent to IceTV (and hence become an IceTV managed timer) if it's tickled and the PVR is in an IceTV enabled state.
It'll stay in its edited state unless IceTV decides it wants to change the timer (be that minutes, hours, or days later).

Thanks for that advice.

Not always, if IceTV issue a change for the EPG event (e.g. start time change) then the timer will be resent with the new times and you'll lose your time changes...

...Try setting a manual timer for say, a few hours duration, and see how long it stays intact before IceTV gazump it and change it back to the duration of the "closest matching" EPG event.

I'd try it myself, but you seem to have experience with this, so maybe know the answer.

If a manual timer (not an autotimer) were set from the OTA EPG, then the PVR switched back to IceTV, would *modifying* the manual timer then trigger a report back to the IceTV server that would then be subject to IceTV modification?

According to my understanding manual timers once set will not be modified automatically with changes in the EPG, and on occasion need to be tweaked manually.
