It is possible to subject a Toppy firmware to rigorous testing before it is released. Some firmware issues take time to emerge even under rigorous testing. There is a trade-off between the need to put in place fixes to know issues and the risk of new issues going undetected. In some case it may be decided it release a firmware with minor issues uncorrected, given the time needed to address those issues.

It is considerably more difficult to test a server configuration when moving from one server to another. If the new and old server have identical configuration, then there should be no problems. If for some reason it is necessary to tweak the configuration (for example when a different provider is being used) the problems in testing before going live can be significant, particularly when testing interaction with remote connections.

The sever outage was somewhat annoying, but it was fixed swiftly. Toppy firmware issues are far more difficult to solve and the time frame is months rather than hours.

My recalcitrant 2400 eventually was able to log in an I could then select a device. Not 100% clear why it was more reluctant. Possibly due to switching to FTA EPG data with this unit - did not do it for the other Toppys.

Well, under 12 hours to a solution is pretty good given the complexities of configuring servers.

I notice the Ice TV Widget is still missing in action. Any idea when it will be fixed?

Re-starting my TF7100HD plus has not done anything  at all - any idea of an eta when this will be sorted?

Unfortunately there is no way to predict how long it will take DNS to propogate out, however we are still working a better workaround to this (unfortunately a proper fix would require a firmware update from Topfield, and we don't want any delays to occur with the release of the next firwmare).

Managed to get 2 x 7100+ back on line. However, a 2400 running January beta firmware is still unable to get device. Is it possible that there is a difference in the way the beta firmware inteacts that means the work around does not fix the issue? If I get a chance I may try reinstalling the firmware and see if it is still problematic.

Definitely not good. Not sure how long IceTV have been aware of the issue and how serious it is. I started this thread at 7.00 am according to the first post (I suspect it was actually 8.00 am as the forum seems to be a daylight saving denier. These things can be difficult to pin down ... and to get a fix. I also logged a service issue at about the same time ... I have not had a response as yet (not even an automated one). So, IceTV for Toppys may not be the only victim of the server migration.

I suppose we can always revert to free to air EPG data .. I have done this with one of my Toppys.

Both my 7100+ have not IceTV EPG and do not seem to be downloading EPG data. They were both put into standby briefly this morning to avoid EPG and timer stalling. One 2400 froze overnight and was restarted this morning; that was when I discovered the problem with no EPG data. The other 2400 running January 24 beta was not put into standby and still has IceTV EPG data, but it is unclear if it is successfully communicating with the IceTV Server.

None of this explains why the IceTV Widget is not working on my Win7 64 system. It has not worked at all today ... one indicator that something was wrong with IceTV.

The IceTV Interactive site says that the last EPG fetch was at 03:29pm; one 2400 is refusing to talk to the IceTV server. I get cannot connect to server message. Not sure which, if any, of the other 3 Toppys is talking to the Server. It is also claimed that the widget updated at 2.02pm, but nothing is showing on the widget. I have stopped and started the widget several times.

I can access the Toppy by ftp and can access YouTube from the Toppy, so it would appear that the problem is not at my end.

Could it be ISP related; I use BigPond Cable and I'm located in Melbourne.

I will try setting timers for the other 3 Toppys and see if they get downloaded; will also set on for the Toppy that cannot connect to the server.

Is it just me, or is the server which the PC Gadget and the Toppy gets its EPG (and timer) data down.  (7.45 am 22-02-12). I only notice the issue when I found the Toppy frozen, and had to do a hard reboot and no EPG data displayed. The I booted up the computer and the Gadget failed to load any data.

Thanks for the update Dan. The latest beta definitely fixes the complete stalling of downloads, and it is much more stable (not sure that I should say this :-X).

Something weird is going on. I checked all my Toppys this morning that use IceTV Interactive this morning and there were no missing timers (2 x 7100+ running November firmware; 2 x 2400 running January beta). While I was not surprised that one of the 7100+s was OK (I did a clean firmware installation on Saturday), the others have not been touched for some time (the 7100+ put into standby at least once a day; 2400 running 24/7).

Has anyone else seen this "peculiar" behaviour? Or has someone at IceTV found a fix for stalled timers?

I strongly support providing information on each registered PVR. I have 4 PVRs, 2 x Topfield 7100+ and 2 x Topfield 2400. All are described as a 2400 so I have no idea if one of the Toppys stops doing fetches (a real problem with the November 2011 firmware). I understand that this information is collected by IceTV so why not give it to users?

I would also support being able to elect LCN on which programs are to be recorded. This would be useful when the same program is transmitted on more than one LCN (for example One on LCN 1 and LCN 12, ABC 1 on LCN 2 and LCN 21 and SBS 1 on LCN 3 and LCN 31 (also LCN 30 for HD version); and 7Digital LCN 7, LCN 70 an LCN 71). These relate to Melbourne, multiple LCN may differ depending on the region,.

I tried the delete EPG data and it did not work; I think there is a posting from David or Dan suggesting that you power down the Toppy after doing that ... not sure if it makes any difference.

I do not know if there is a max amount of data the 2400/2460/7100+ can store for EPG. There is a max number of timers - 70. If when you first set up IceTV, and there is more than 70 timers to be downloaded (normally downloads timers for the next 5 days), the Toppy will throw a hissey fit and refuse to download any more timers. The only solution is to reset service, rescan service, tell IceTV Interactive to resend timers, then set up ICE TV on the Toppy. This will also usually overcome missed timers (but you may have some missed timers on day 4 or 5).

You are not alone with this. I have seen it happen on all my Toppys running the November firmware. In my case I tend to loose 10 or SBS. Not sure if this is a Toppy problem (more likely I suspect) or an IceTV problem. As it only affects one Toppy at a time, IceTV is unlikely to be the culprit.

Dan or David reported in one of the other threads that Topfield are in the final stages of finalising a new release. Not clear if that is a beta or a public release.


Addendum Wally, does resetting the EPG Data have any impact? (You navigate the the IceTV setup, and use the red function button to do the reset.)
