Topfield / TV4ME
« on: January 06, 2012, 01:16:17 PM »
IceTV does not yet include EPG data for TV4ME and this makes navigation of the EPG difficult as the row is empty. This means that you are sent back to current time if you move past TV4ME. Would it be possible to include blank data in hourly increments to avoid this happing. It could include a message like "no EPG data available". The other solution is to delete TV4ME after doing a service scan. This means you cannot watch it ... not sure if that is a great loss or not.

Topfield / Re: Not available due to missed index file - error
« on: January 02, 2012, 04:17:48 PM »
Hi Guys, it doesn't seem to matter whether I record from TV or a transferred file. I cannot Fastword or Rewind the program currenly playing.  All I getis the error: "Not available due to missed index file" is this a fault with my new Topfield Materpiece Plus 2460.
Any thoughts / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not completely clear what you are doing here. The index created automatically when the recording is created (it is probably the *.nav file or it could be the *.ini file). For reasons best know to Topfield, when playing media files rather than native Toppy files -- which are in the data directory (or files via DLNA) you cannot fastforward or fastrewind; there are TAPs that will allow this to happen. If the probem is with native Toppy Files, it can happen if the file has been edited (this is stated in the manual), you can solve the problem by deleting the associted *.nav file and running the RebuildNav TAP.

Topfield / Re: TF7100HDPLUS firmware update - December
« on: January 02, 2012, 04:11:45 PM »
It has the same fixes as those in the November 2400/2460 firmware (other than those relating to features that the 7100+ has). The most important changes are:
1. You can now record to an external drive (but only 1 program at a time)
2. IceTV module has been completely reworked; timers set on the Toppy are sent to IceTV interactive, and are included in resend timers. Timer and EPG fetches are now 4 times an hour. The EPG no longer prone to corruption. Unfortunately there are problems with the EPG fetches and timer download stalling. There are also reports of timers inexplicable disappearing. Possible work-arounds for most of these problems are discussed in the thread on the 2400/2460 versions of the November 2011 firmware.

If EPG fails to populate, and timers fail to download, (that is, there has never been a successful EPG fetch) it may be due to a corrupt firmware installation. So do a factory reset, reinstall the fimware, do another factory reset than customise the settings.

If the EPG stops fetches or timers stop fetching, if you go into menu, installation, reset service, and then do a service scan, then reactivate IceTV it will usually fix the problem. This is less drastic than doing a reset to system defaults but it works just as well in my experience.

The really weird thing is that with the 7100+, while I occasionally get a missed download of a series timer, those timers are subsequently fetched. Both firmware are dated 23 November, ..

The latest firmware for the 7100+ from the topfield site is 06-Jan-2011. What firmware are you running?

Using 23 Nov 2011 7100+ firmware. It took a while for it to get onto the Toppro www site. I got it via network update ... relatively dangerous thing to do but I took an informed chance ... it is now on Toppro www site.

Weird stuff. I am seeing similar behaviour on my 2400. Also, it seems to be fatal if a timer fetch results in more than the max number of timers being sent (the max number is 70). Powering down does not restart the fetches of timers. However, EPG fetches are continuing

The really weird thing is that with the 7100+, while I occasionally get a missed download of a series timer, those timers are subsequently fetched. Both firmware are dated 23 November, so not sure if there was some tweaking to the firmware after the 3400 firmware was released, or if it is just a coincidence. I have taken no special steps with the 7100+, I do not ensure that it is powered down once a day

November 22 2011 firmware for 2400/2460 is now available. A version is also avaiable for the 7100+. It seems to have fixed all know IceTV related issues. No EPG corruption, no mysterious disappearance of reservations, more frequent downloading of EPG data and reservations (I understand this now happens every 15 minutes). Update of EPG data and reservations can be forced by putting the Toppy into standby for a very short time (turning it off and turning it on again).

Update 6-1-12Unfortunately it has its own issues; After a while downloading of both timers and EPG data stalls. In most cases, this can be rectified by powering down the Toppy for a short time. If that does not fix it, the quickest solution is to Rest service list (which can be found under System recovery. Then do a service rescan. Once this is done, go to IceTV Interactive and resent timers to the Toppy. Now, you need to reactivate IceTV (need to re-enter user name and password) and shortly all should be well with the world.

This issue is address in the 22 November firmware for the 2400/2460. It is still to be fixed on the 7100+.

Update: updated firmware now available for 7100+.

All 3 firmwares have a propensity to stall downloads of timers and EPG data. Also reports of some timers not downloading and very occasionally timers inexplicably being deleted.

Risk minimisation strategy -- put the Toppy into standby for a short period each day.

The 22 November 2011 firmware for 2400/2460 has many fixes (particularly for those officiated with spontaneous rebooting), YouTube and most important of all IceTV EPG and IceTV Interactive seem to work as they should. EPG and reservation downloads are more frequent (every 15 minutes). EPG corruption and disappearing reservations both apparently fixed.

There is a new firmware (dated 22 November) for the 2400/2460 which address many of the IceTV issues.

EPG data corruption no longer seems to be a problem, and if it happens there is a button to clear the EPG data.

EPG and reservation download are more frequent. If reservation downloads do not take place immediately (assuming that you have told IceTV interactive to resend timers), putting the Toppy into standby and powering it up should get the timers to download.
