Topfield / Random disappearance of EPG for only one network

In the last month I have had several instance (both with 2400 and 7100+) of EPG data blank for one network being absent. I have had this happen for 10, 9 and ABC so far. Sometimes putting the Toppy into standby fixes the problem. Not sure if this is an IceTV issue or a Toppy firmware issue (as it only affects on Toppy at a time, it suggests that it may be a firmware issue).

Has anyone else seen this behaviour. In my case it did not start until some time after installing the Feb 2012 firmware. I do not recall seeing it with the November 2011 firmware.


Topfield / Nuke you 7100+ to make it a 7170

Toppro have released firmware that changes a 7100+ into a 7170. You end up with older firmware (May 2011 rather than Feb 2012), IR ('intelligent recording') but no IceTV. The process cannot be reversed.

Not sure why anyone would want to do this. There are TAPs that produce far better outcomes than IR while retaining the ability to use IceTV at a later stage.


UPDATE: It appears that some 7170s had the system ID for the 7100+; all this firmware does is change the system ID (and it will only do so if the May 2011 7170 firmware is installed).

Topfield / Erratic timer downloading

As part of my testing of IceTV I have series timers for the same program on two Toppys to see if there is anything strange going on. One of the programs I use for series timers is JAG, as it is on 7 days a week, sometimes it is on twice a day. So it is obviously a good way of testing.

One of the Toppys shows three reservations for Saturday 17-03-12; 00.05, 01.10 and 13.00. The Toppy EPG only shows two, ones at 01.10 and 13.00 (and this corresponds to the IceTV Interactive information). The other Toppy shows only two timers, 00.05 and 13.00; however the EPG shows episodes at 00.10 and 13.00. It looks as if IceTV changed the time from 0.05 to 01.10 and the EPG updated to reflect this. For one Toppy the new timer was downloaded but the old timer was not deleted. For the other Toppy, the old timer remains and the new timer has not been sent to the Toppy.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?


In the last couple of days I have seen several instances of episodes of series recording being reported as not having downloaded which have, in fact downloaded. I gather from the Topfield forums that I am not the only one to see this. It is not clear if this issue relates only to Topfield PVRs or everyone using IceTV Interactive (like the phantom error messages we saw a week or so ago).

I have also had a possibly unrelated issue with timers that downloaded not recording (happened last night).

Forum time is one hour out ... it is a daylight saving dissident.

Can this be fixed, it is most disconcerting.

Topfield / IceTV server is down?

Is it just me, or is the server which the PC Gadget and the Toppy gets its EPG (and timer) data down.  (7.45 am 22-02-12). I only notice the issue when I found the Toppy frozen, and had to do a hard reboot and no EPG data displayed. The I booted up the computer and the Gadget failed to load any data.

IceTV does not yet include EPG data for TV4ME and this makes navigation of the EPG difficult as the row is empty. This means that you are sent back to current time if you move past TV4ME. Would it be possible to include blank data in hourly increments to avoid this happing. It could include a message like "no EPG data available". The other solution is to delete TV4ME after doing a service scan. This means you cannot watch it ... not sure if that is a great loss or not.
