Humax / Re: Subtitles appearance on Humax?
« on: September 29, 2011, 06:55:38 PM »
I am looking for information on the appearance of the subtitles on the Humax PVR. I haven't been able to find any examples on ther inetnet as yet, so I am hoping someone here can help me.
Hi Malcolm,

The subtitles on the Humax look very nice.

The background is only slightly larger than the text being displayed, and adjusts for wider sentences and 1 or 2 rows of text. The background is a dark grey or transparent black and has approximately 25% transparency. It's transparent enough so as not to be annoying but not really transparent enough to focus on what is behind the subtitles. it does look better than a large solid black box.

The font looks nice enough. It's not that ugly, blocky, teletext type font that you can see on some cheap STBs. There is a Subtitle Font setting in the menu with choices of Automatic or Fixed (I have no idea what the difference is as I could not see any difference). As prl said, each person's speech is shown in a different colour. Thankfully the chosen colours are very pale and not a distraction. i.e. Pale yellow, baby blue and white. None of that bright green, bright yellow or dark blue stuff that you can see in some cheap STBs.

EyeTV / Re: Scheduled recordings being missed still an issue?
« on: September 24, 2011, 10:29:43 PM »
Hi snilbert,

To make sure that IceTV is updating, go to 'EyeTV Preferences' and have a look at when the Last Update was. The Program Guide should be set to Update Every Day but unfortunately EyeTV randomly changes the next update time. Click on 'Update Now' to confirm that it is working.

Also make sure that 'Remote Scheduling' is set to 'Every Hour'.

If you want, you can also tick the option to 'Wake up computer to check remote scheduling'. This will ensure that it regularly gets the scheduling updates. Otherwise you need to ensure that the Mac is turned on for at least an hour each day.

Lastly,  make sure that all channels are assigned to use IceTV as their EPG source.

The steps to check and fix this are:
1. Open the EyeTV Programs window (“Window > Show EyeTV Programs” from the menu bar).
2. Select “Channels” in the source list on the left side of the window.
3. In the list, find a channel that's missing the guide data.
4. Look at the value in the EPG column for that row.
5. If it says "IceTV", click on it and re-select IceTV from the drop down list.
6. If it doesn't say "IceTV", change it to IceTV.
7. Select the appropriate channel from the guide listing that appears in the popup window.
8. Repeat steps 3 to 7 for all other channels that are missing the guide data.

The above steps will re-map the EyeTV channels to our guide data. If you switch to the "Program Guide" tab now, you should see guide data for those channels

Topfield / Re: TRF 2400 missing recording and no red R icon
« on: September 17, 2011, 02:26:37 AM »
Welcome adb,

The missed rugby program was due a bug in the Topfield firmware that prevents it from updating the guide if a program's start or end time has changed. This can then prevent it from setting a timer because the timer does not match the guide. This same bug can also prevent the red R showing up on timers that do not match the programs in the guide. The good news is that Topfield are working on a firmware update to fix the problem.

Even without the red R you can always see what is going to record by going to 'Menu > Recording > Reservation'.

Topfield / Re: 2460 misses IceTV guide
« on: September 12, 2011, 04:48:10 PM »
Hi David, so is it also a 2460 firmware problem that causes the IceTV guide not to be loaded after powering off the machine?

It also happens at other random times, but I think that might be due to wireless connection problems, but I am still to confirm that one.
Hi wiltoppy,

This problem is caused by another bug in the Topfield firmware that causes the Topfield to deactivate the network and disable IceTV if it cannot establish a network connection quick enough while turning on. Topfield did release a firmware version in 2009 that fixed this bug by waiting a short while after turning on before fetching the Ice Guide. But due to the number of complaints about the delay in accessing the guide they reverted the next (and all following) firmware back to how it was before.

The solutions for this range from leaving the Topfield turned on 24/7 to using a Ethernet or EoP instead of wireless. Somewhere in between are many options for improving your wireless reliability (different encryption type, different wireless channel, adding an access point etc).

Topfield / Re: Resend all recordings
« on: September 11, 2011, 12:13:21 AM »
It depends on why you are resending all recordings. Usually this is only needed because the Topfield has stopped fetching the scheduled recordings or has stopped loading them correctly. When this happens you do need to reset the Topfield to get it working again.

The good news is that Topfield are working on a firmware update to fix the problem which is caused by the Topfield not updating the guide when shows start times or durations change. Topfield are also adding a clear guide cache menu option which will avoid needing to reset if something does cause the guide cache to become corrupted.

The guide gets updated every day sometime after 1pm (this could be at 2pm or even 4pm). The difference you saw between your 2460's guide and the Interactive guide is caused by the above mentioned Topfield bug preventing the 2460 from updating the guide.

Hi Judy,

The ABC do not provide episode information for most screenings of Graham Norton – but when they do, we make sure to include them.

Hi Judy,

There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to which episodes have the guest list. We are looking into it and will try to include the guest list in new episodes.

It is something on your PC. It could be cookies. Or Nortons maybe?

I am having the same problem on my work laptop. But it works fine on my PCs at home.

Windows 7 Media Center / Re: ICETV Interactive.exe High CPU

It could be that your Ice program has a corrupted record that's stopping it from running properly. Please try the following which should fix it:

* First close the IceTV Interactive program by right-clicking on the IceTV icon on the bottom right of the screen near the time (It's a blue circle with a white X inside)
* Choose Exit

* Open “Computer” from the start menu.
* Select your hard drive from the list of drives available.
* Open the “ProgramData” folder. If you do not see this folder you will need to turn on the showing of hidden files, follow these steps to do this:
1. Click on the “Organise” button in the bar at the top of the window.
2. Select “Folder and Search Options” from the menu.
3. Click on the “View” tab.
4. Place a dot in the box marked “Show hidden files and folders”.
5. Click “OK”.
6. You should now be able to see the “ProgramData” folder.
* Open the “IceTV” folder.
* Open the “Interactive” folder.

* Delete all folders there. You should see a '3.0', a '' plus a few more folders
* Run IceTV Interactive again from the start menu.

That should fix the corruption. Let IceTV know if that still hasn't solved your problem.
